Where do Milwaukee Brewers announcers rank in annual poll?

The Milwaukee Brewers' television announcers were again regarded as one of the 10 best in baseball according to a poll produced by website Awful Announcing, which asked fans to grade their local announcing team. The site converted the letter grades to numbers (an "A" is 4, a "B" is 3, an "F" is 0) to arrive at an average rating, then ranked the 30 announcing teams. This year, the Brewers team ranked ninth in the poll. The site identified Jeff Levering, Bill Schroeder, Brian Anderson and Craig Coshun as play-by-play announcers, with color commentators Tim Dillard, Vinny Rottino and — curiously — Jeff Cirillo and Chris Singleton. Their average score for the Brewers: 2.66. More accurately, Schroeder serves as a color commentator, with either Anderson or Levering offering primary play-by-play. Dillard and Rottino work in Schroeder's stead during road trips. Cirillo and Singleton have worked Brewers games in previous years but haven't been contributors this year. Coshun typically serves as a studio host for pregame and postgame shows on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin but has worked in the booth when needed in the past. The Brewers ranked eighth in the 2024 version of the poll and ninth in 2023. The site said readers most commonly gave the Brewers team a "B" and nearly 90% of respondents gave them an A, B or C, with one of the smallest volume of "F" grades among the announcing teams. "The comments here saw a lot of praise for Anderson despite his less-than-full-time role," the site wrote. "Those included 'Brian Anderson is the best play-by-play guy in the business,' 'The more BA the better the grade, he's an ace' (on a B grade), and 'BA is great…would be A if he did all games' (on a B grade). However, Levering drew some compliments of his own, including 'future star,' 'incredibly steady and remarkably versatile,' and 'very underrated.'" The top team in the rankings? That would be the San Diego Padres, a team that includes former Brewers player Tony Gwynn Jr. in an analyst role. The San Francisco Giants, including Racine Case graduate Duane Kuiper and his longtime on-air partner Mike Krukow, ranked third. Former Brewers catcher Buck Martinez and the Toronto Blue Jays crew ranked No. 4, and former Brewers pitcher Ben McDonald is a regular part of the Baltimore Orioles team that ranked No. 7. Other interesting Brewers connections: Matt Vasgersian, former Brewers announcer, is occasionally part of the Los Angeles Angels broadcasts that ranked No. 10. Ripon College alumnus Joe Davis, one of the more well-known national baseball voices, is the primary play-by-play voice for the Los Angeles Dodgers (ranked No. 12). Former Brewers announcer Cory Provus works play-by-play for the Minnesota Twins broadcast, ranked No. 15. Former Brewers pitcher LaTroy Hawkins also serves as analyst. Texas (No. 24) features a broadcast that includes ex-Brewers catcher Dave Valle. Pittsburgh (No. 25) occasionally features radio play-by-play man Joe Block, who formerly held that position with the Brewers alongside Bob Uecker. Ex-Brewers player Neil Walker is also one of the analysts. The Chicago White Sox (No. 27) occasionally include former Brewers closer Dan Plesac as an analyst. Tampa Bay (No. 16) also has a broadcaster named Brian Anderson. This article originally appeared on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Where do Brewers announcers rank in Awful Announcing annual poll?

Yankees won't win the World Series because ‘they do dumbass s–t': Clint Frazier

Try it free Stop listening to the computers. That's ex-Yankee Clint Frazier's advice to the Bronx Bombers should they want to end their 16-year World Series drought. Advertisement 'They will not win the World Series if this f–king analytical car is driving it. They won't,' Frazier said recently on his 'Life After The Show' podcast. 'And the reason that they won't win it is because they do dumbass s–t that they didn't do during the regular season because they get cute and they want to make a crazy move.' There has been plenty of discussion about why the Yankees have won just one World Series game over the 16 years and the team's analytical approach has been often cited. 3 Clint Frazier discussing the Yankees' issues. @clint-frazier/YouTube Advertisement While it's almost universally agreed that analytics help teams, some have wondered if the Yankees are too reliant or if they apply the data in the right way. Frazier, who played for the Yankees from 2017-21 and has been critical of the team since his exit, cited Game 2 of the 2020 ALDS as a prime example. Advertisement The Yankees held a 1-0 series lead and started rookie Deivi Garcia for one inning before going to veteran J.A. Happ, who bombed in the 7-5 loss. The Bronx Bombers ultimately lost the series in five games. 3 J.A. Happ during the 2020 ALDS. for the NY POST 3 Deivi Garcia pitched just the first inning of the 2020 ALDS. for the NY POST Advertisement 'For instance, we're in the middle of the 2020 playoffs and we're playing the Rays, and Deivi Garcia is the guy that they say is gonna pitch the game. They do that because the Rays are another analytical team and know that they'll put a huge lineup out there that's full of left-handed hitters,' Frazier recalled. 'Righty pitcher, left-handed hitters, we're gonna get crazy. We're gonna try to fool the Rays. Deivi's only gonna face a few batters, we're gonna take him out, we're gonna bring a left-handed pitcher in. They've got a full left-handed lineup. We're gonna shock the world. Didn't happen. We'll just leave it at that.' Frazier noted the effect that type of backfiring move can have on players' morale. CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND YANKEES STATS 'So when that happens, as a player in the locker room, to know that we just went the entire season to get to this point and they got cute, and they tried something that they didn't try during the regular season in the playoffs in a moment that's extremely crucial and it backfires,' Frazier said, 'and every player's sitting there thinking, 'What the f–k just happened? What the f–k?' That's why they won't win these games in the playoffs if they're doing s–t like that.' Until the Yankees win a title or should they stunningly change their operating strategy, the team's reliance on analytics will continue to be a discussion.
