ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wants to see Bills trade for Myles Garrett

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wants to see Bills trade for Myles Garrett

USA Today19-02-2025

Big names at the defensive end position have been labeled as potential trade candidates this NFL offseason, such as Maxx Crosby, Micah Parsons, Trey Hendrickson, and Myles Garrett.
And, Buffalo Bills fans on social media have been clamoring for a trade for a star edge rusher since the season's end.
Head coach Sean McDermott agrees with the folks wishing a trade for a star. He hinted at landing a difference-maker this offseason during his end-of-season press conference.
'The AFC is just loaded with really good quarterbacks, really good coaches,' McDermott said. 'So the short answer is they are hard to find, like Brandon (Beane) said. You do need difference-makers. Again, in my experience, you need two or three on each side of the ball that are difference makers like that.'
With Garrett's trade request from the Cleveland Browns following the season, Western New Yorkers began to put two and two together quickly, especially after Garrett mentioned that he wanted to be traded to a Super Bowl contender.
'I have a lot of love for Northeast Ohio and the community that brought me into the league,' Garrett said on NFL Countdown on Super Bowl Sunday. 'I wanna get to contending and winning playoff games and having a chance to be in games like today.'
It's not just Bills fans who are hoping to see the potential match between Buffalo and Garrett. ESPN national NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler claimed it as the one move he wants to see this offseason, saying 'Buffalo's lack of pass-rush prowess showed in key moments of the playoffs, especially against the Chiefs. Time to rectify that in a big way.'
It's been said a million times that the Bills are close to 'getting over the hump', but Garrett is the type of player who could take them where they are trying to go. The Bills have been one of the best teams in the NFL over the past five years but they haven't had the star power, especially on the defensive side of the ball, to make impact plays in the playoffs.
Garrett, a 29-year-old veteran with eight seasons under his belt, has most likely entered the back-nine of his playing career. He's ready to win now, and so are the Bills.
Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins sees the vision, as well. He has been doing his best to recruit the six-time All-Pro this offseason, nationally stating multiple times his desire to land Garrett.
If Garrett is traded, he will come with a hefty price tag, so general manager Brandon Beane will most likely have to perform some cap gymnastics. His current cap hit with Cleveland is just north of $20 million, which is expensive for a non-quarterback, but it's more than reasonable for a player of his caliber.
As for which team Garrett will be on to start 2025, the Bills (+550) have the fourth-best odds in the NFL, according to DraftKings. They trail the Washington Commanders (+300), Philadelphia Eagles (+450), and Browns (+500).

J.K. Dobbins seeking Super Bowl with Broncos after 'weird' exit from Chargers

J.K. Dobbins seeking Super Bowl with Broncos after 'weird' exit from Chargers The Los Angeles Chargers placed an unrestricted free agent tender on J.K. Dobbins in April, creating an unconventional offseason for the running back. After receiving that tender, Dobbins had until training camp to strike a deal with another club. If he did not reach an agreement before July 22, the Chargers would have had exclusive negotiating rights with Dobbins, and his tender was only worth $1.64 million. After signing a one-year deal with a division rival, Dobbins has an opportunity to earn up to $5.25 million with the Denver Broncos this fall. Dobbins is now set to return to L.A. in Week 3, and then face his old team again when the Broncos host the Chargers in Week 18 (view the full schedule). Will he have a chip on his shoulder going up against his old club? 'I always have a chip on my shoulder, but that was a little weird," Dobbins said after his first practice in Denver. "It's a business. It's for my agent to handle. Good luck to [the Chargers]. I'm a Bronco now. They have to see me twice a year. That's my thoughts on it. I'm going to have the chip on my shoulder, of course, but I'm here. "I'm worried about winning more than just beating — I don't want to just beat the Chargers. I want to go on and I want to get a ring. I've been in the playoffs every year I've played, so I'm tired of losing in them. That's my goal. Bring a Super Bowl to the city and just be a blessing to the community, as well." Dobbins totaled 1,058 yards from scrimmage and scored 13 touchdowns in L.A. last season. He will now join rookie RJ Harvey in Denver's backfield. Dobbins is entering his sixth season in the NFL. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Bills Have One Issue That Could Destroy Super Bowl Hopes

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After coming up just one win short of the Super Bowl last season, the Buffalo Bills are once again a top-tier contender entering the 2025 season. That has been the story for the franchise in recent years. Josh Allen and company have had multiple opportunities to get over the hump and into the big game. They simply have been unable to do it. This season, the roster is good enough once again. With Allen leading the way, the Bills are always going to be a team to watch. However, there are questions that need to be answered about Buffalo for the team to win it all. More PhotoWith that being said, what is the biggest flaw for the Bills this year? Read more: Bills GM Shares New James Cook Update Amid Contract Drama Bleacher Report analyst Moe Moton took a look at the biggest flaw for top contenders. When it came to Buffalo, there is one glaring question that needs to be answered. He believes that a lack of star power around Allen in big moments is the team's biggest flaw. "The Bills shouldn't have to rely on Allen having an MVP year to reach the NFL mountaintop," Moton wrote. "If two-time Pro Bowl running back James Cook holds out in the summer after reporting to mandatory minicamp, Allen may not have the playmakers around him to get this team over the hump." Moton also continued on to reveal one player who could help fix the flaw. He thinks second-year wide receiver Keon Coleman is that guy. "If the second-year wideout can build on a rookie campaign in which he averaged 19.2 yards per catch, they may have the firepower to break through for a Super Bowl appearance," he wrote. They made a few moves, but they didn't swing big. Joey Bosa was the biggest offseason addition. While he's more than capable of being an elite pass rusher, there are always concerns about injuries with him. Offensively, Buffalo didn't do much to improve around Allen. It will be interesting to see if the tweaks the Bills made to the roster are enough. They were close to knocking off Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs last season. Perhaps they can finally get the job done in 2025. For more Buffalo Bills and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
