Saham secured an exciting 3-2 victory over Al Khabourah on Saturday at Al Rustaq Sports Complex as part of the 16th round of the Oman Football League.
The game started cautiously from both teams, the first chance was in the 6th minute for Saham's Ali al Hashmi, but he failed to capitalise. Al Khabourah responded with attacking pressure, as Bashar al Balushi fired a powerful shot in the 13th minute, brilliantly saved by Saham's goalkeeper. Yusuf Bouabid nearly opened the scoring for Saham in the 15th minute, but his shot narrowly missed the right post.
Saham's goalkeeper made a crucial save against a dangerous shot from Joen Karl, while Omar Prince wasted a golden opportunity for Saham with a weak attempt in the 19th minute. The attacking pressure was tie to end first half in a goalless draw.
The second half kicked off with a higher tempo, as Al Khabourah took the lead in the 53rd minute through Ahmed al Riyami, who capitalised on defensive confusion inside the box. However, Saham responded quickly, earning a penalty that was successfully converted by Algerian Rashid Aït in the 57th minute, bringing the game back to level terms.
Saham continued pressing and managed to take the lead in the 62nd minute through Adeniji. Al Khabourah intensified their attacks, attempting to break through the wings and central areas, but Saham's goalkeeper, Hassan al Buraiki, showcased brilliant saves, especially in the final minutes.
As stoppage time began, Adeniji struck again in the 93rd minute, finishing off a swift counterattack to extend Saham's lead. Al Khabourah's Mohamed Lamine managed to reduce the deficit in the 95th minute, but it was too late to change the outcome, as Saham secured a valuable 3-2 win.
With this victory, Saham climbed to 20 points, advancing to sixth place on goal difference ahead of Al Nasr, who sits in fifth. Meanwhile, Al Khabourah remained at 21 points, holding onto fourth place without change.

Muscat, May 5 The Oman national athletics team delivered an outstanding performance at the 24th Arab Senior Athletics Championship, held in Oran, Algeria, from April 30 to May 4. The team clinched a total of five medals, three silver and two bronze. The event brought together some of the top Arab athletes in the region. Sprinter Ali bin Anwar al Balushi emerged as one of the standout stars of the delegation, winning two silver medals in the 100 metres (10.21 seconds) and 200 metres, clocking a new personal best of 20.7 seconds. Fellow Omani runner Mulhim bin Darwish al Balushi also made his mark by winning a bronze medal in the 100 metres with a time of 10.36 seconds. In the men's high jump, Fatik bin Abdulghafoor Sanjour secured a silver with a leap of 2.14 metres, tying with his Qatari counterpart but claiming second place due to more failed attempts. Meanwhile, Alya bint Faiq al Mughairiyah earned a bronze medal in the women's high jump, clearing 1.71 metres, underscoring the growing presence and performance of Omani women in athletics. The national team delegation included a group of athletes who participated in various races and competitions. The athletes were Ali bin Anwar al Balushi, Mulhim bin Darwish al Balushi, Mohammed al Suleimani, Fatik Sanjour, Salim al Rawahi and Alya al Mughairi. The team was headed by Ahmed al Dhuhouri, accompanied by team administrator Abdullah al Jabri, physiotherapist Krassimir Petrov, and coach Saeed al Rashdi. BOOSTING CONFIDENCE In a statement, delegation head Ahmed al Dhuhouri emphasised the championship's importance as a key step in the national team's preparation journey. He noted that direct competition with elite Arab athletes greatly contributed to improving the players' skills and boosting their confidence. From a technical standpoint, Al Dhuhouri remarked that the championship witnessed very high levels of competition, both in terms of performance and tactical execution, providing a challenging environment that helped refine the athletes' abilities and test their readiness under pressure. He praised the athletes' performance, highlighting the five medals won as a reflection of the serious preparation and high-quality training programmes the team underwent. He also commended the excellent organisation of the event and the warm hospitality extended to the Omani delegation by the organising committee and the Algerian people, saying it created an ideal atmosphere for athletic competition and knowledge exchange. Al Dhuhouri concluded by lauding the achievements as a strong motivation for upcoming events and a clear indication that Omani athletes are capable of excelling at regional and international levels, provided they are given the right support and environment.

Marwan al Ghafri added the second goal in the 48th minute with a corner kick that found the net. Saham dominated the game and posed multiple threats to Sohar's goal but couldn't extend the lead further. The match ended 2-0. With this victory, Saham climbed to seventh place with 26 points, while Sohar remained in 10th place with 21 points, just one point ahead of Ibri, the first team in the relegation zone. SUR RELEGATED AFTER 3-3 DRAW WITH AL SHABAB Sur officially relegated to the First Division League after a 3-3 draw with Al Shabab in a match held at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. Al Shabab's goals came from Mohammed al Ghafri, who scored a hat-trick, while Sur's goals were scored by Mana Sbeit, Mohammed al Najashi, and Abdullah al Mashaikhi. With this draw, Sur reached 18 points but remained at the bottom of the table and was officially relegated before the final round. They needed a win and favorable results from other matches to avoid the drop. AL NAHDA & BAHLA GOALLESS DRAW Al Nahda and Bahla played to a goalless draw in their match at Seeb Sports Stadium. With this result, Al Nahda reached 44 points and secured second place in the league standings before the final round. Bahla, with 39 points, confirmed its position in third place.
