Time Out29-07-2025
The viral food of summer 2025 is coming to a secret LA pop-up August 2, and you don't want to miss it.
Pop‑Tarts and B.J. Novak's cult-favorite foodie collective Chain are teaming up for a one‑day pop‑up on National Ice Cream Sandwich Day on August 2. And this isn't just Pop-Tarts celebrating its already released ice cream sandwiches. No, fans will get the chance to indulge in just 1,000 next‑level creations featuring viral flavors Strawberry Matcha and Dubai Chocolate.
Earlier this summer, Pop‑Tarts officially launched three packaged ice cream sandwich flavors (Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Frosted Strawberry and Frosted Chocolate Fudge), inspired by what Pop-Tarts aficionados apparently make at home. Now, Pop-Tarts has tasted viral success, and they want more. Enter: the Pop-Tarts Ice Cream Sandwiches by Chain pop-up.

Imagine, if you will, biting into a Frosted Strawberry Pop‑Tart sandwich that's hugging cool matcha ice cream with a swirl of bright strawberry. Or: nibbling on a decadent Frosted Chocolate Fudge Pop‑Tart filled with pistachio ice cream, topped off with crunchy toasted kataifi and rich tahini‑chocolate ribbons, riffing on the luxe Dubai chocolate craze. These are the kind of bold mashup flavors SoCal foodies (and anyone who chases viral trends) dream of.
Chain, the food collective from BJ Novak and chef Tim Hollingsworth, is what happens when Hollywood nostalgia meets culinary chaos in the best way. Known for pop-ups that remix fast food and chain restaurants with fine-dining flair, Chain throws parties that feel like a fever dream from your childhood... if your childhood also had craft cocktails and a red carpet. No flavor is too kitschy or too craveable, which makes them perfect for a Pop-Tart/Dubai chocolate collab.
The Pop-Tarts Ice Cream Sandwiches by Chain pop-up is free to attend, but space is limited. Fans can RSVP here or text 505-552-4246 to get the secret Los Angeles location and reserve their sandwich in advance. We might be headed into the dog days of summer, but that's all the more reason to score a sweet frozen treat. And if that comes with a side of clout, so be it.

G-Dragon's global Übermensch exhibition arrives in Hong Kong this month

G-Dragon is taking the Hong Kong stage for his Übermensch concert soon, but if you haven't managed to get tickets, you can still enjoy a slice of this K-pop legend's star power with his Übermensch media exhibition. The show was first launched in March this year to accompany GD's latest album release and quickly became a viral sensation, drawing global fans through its doors when it toured to Tokyo and Taipei. Now, Hong Kong VIPs will also have the chance to experience GD's creative universe with cutting-edge technology and art for themselves. A combination of virtual reality, 3D motion graphics, and real-time hologram projections will bring visitors into the heart of G-Dragon's newest single 'Take Me', offering an immersive concert experience like no other. Multiple 5G-powered hologram projectors throughout the venue will also screen life-like performances of 'Take Me' and 'IBelongIIU', bringing the K-pop star closer to fans than ever before – it'll certainly feel closer than watching him in concert. The Tokyo and Taipei editions of the exhibition used projection technology, but the Hong Kong show will feature double-sided LED screens arranged along a corridor, paired with immersive sound design, to truly make it feel like G-Dragon himself is guiding fans through his unique universe. The exhibition will be split into three zones, so don't miss the special art installations such as the 'Daisy Garden', where a giant 4.4-metre daisy stands as the centrepiece. Official merchandise that is exclusive to the Übermensch exhibition will also be brought in from Korea and available for sale on-site – look out for special limited-edition gift sets and the chance to collect the G-Dragon art series in full. 'G-Dragon Media Exhibition: Übermensch Hong Kong' will run in Harbour City from August 15 to September 7. Tickets cost $188, and will be sold exclusively on Klook from August 11 at 12 noon.

'I travel over 15,000 miles for K-pop concerts - it costs me thousands but I won't stop'

From Ibiza to Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Lyon, Antwerp, Brussels, and London, Denrick is the proof that when your favourite artist doesn't come to you, you pack your bags and go to see them yourself. How far would you go to see your favourite artist live? For some, a concert is a night out to sing their hearts out or to hear their favourite album live. But for Denrick Domingo, travelling from city to city to witness his favourite K-pop idols live on stage has also been an opportunity to discover a new place. ‌ Denrick's travels feed into a growing movement called music tourism, where people travel to different places to experience music events. Whether it's Coachella, Tomorrowland's dreamy and electrifying festival, or even the iconic Taylor Swift Eras Tour - fans are turning concerts into travel experiences. ‌ This is where Denrick comes in, an 18-year-old who's ditched the party isle of Ibiza to travel across Europe for the music he loves. While people travel hundreds and even thousands of miles to spend the summer of their lives in the Balearic Islands, Denrick is "forced" to leave the island because concerts aren't a thing. In other related news, here's a list of UK festivals you wouldn't want to miss this summer. ‌ Over the years, music tourism has experienced a surge. According to reports by the Creative Industries, a record number of 23.5 million music tourists enjoyed live concerts and festivals in the UK in 2024, a 23 per cent increase on 2023's total of 19.2 million. The results also revealed that out of the 23.5 million music tourists, 1.6 million came from overseas. Interestingly, overseas tourists came to the UK to see the likes of Taylor Swift, who was celebrating her Eras Tour, and to attend festivals like Glastonbury. K-pop is one of the biggest music genres of the moment, dominating global charts not only in South Korea but also internationally. Over the years, popular groups like BTS and BLACKPINK paved the way for more emerging artists. European fans are now seeing their cities added to world tour stops, and for fans like Denrick, that's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. ‌ As a devoted K-pop fan, Denrick has gone to incredible lengths to see his favourite idols live. Spending his salary on tickets and flights, he has attended a total of 33 concerts, with 15 more to attend, spending an exact amount of €6,761 (£5,886.74) in the span of two years. He told us: 'I live in Ibiza, where no one comes to perform concerts, so I'm always forced to travel outside the island. Most of the time, I get to travel to Barcelona or Madrid, but other times, Spain isn't lucky enough to have a date, so I have to travel to other European cities. In the end, I get to visit a new country while attending a concert.' Travelling a total of 15,784 miles, he has also visited Paris, Lyon, Antwerp, Brussels and London. ‌ 'I don't regret investing my money in concerts. I'm still young and want to enjoy these years travelling and seeing the artists I like most before becoming independent and having to reserve my budget for other things,' Denrick added. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. ‌ 'I saw Billie Eilish at the O2 - I couldn't stop sobbing when she sang this song' Daniel Hurley, COO & founder of Global Carter, said: 'More young people are planning trips around concerts, festivals, and live events abroad, treating music as the main reason to travel rather than just something to do while they are there. It's part of a wider shift towards experience-led travel, where people want something memorable and personal rather than a standard holiday.' He added: 'Travel tied to music is no longer just about big festivals. It's also about one-off concerts in iconic venues, pop-up performances, and even following a favourite artist on tour. For under-35s, it offers a way to combine their interests with global travel in a way that feels personal and worth the cost.' For Denrick and all music lovers, attending concerts isn't just about enjoying a three-hour live-performance and filling your storage with pictures and videos - it's about making memories, seeing the world, and most importantly, living in the moment. It's clear that young people are choosing experiences over things, and music tourism is one of them. Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. We'd love to hear from you!
