'Iran can be erased': AI-generated video of 'King Charles' slamming Donald Trump fools social media users ahead of US President's second state visit to UK

Sky News AU5 hours ago

An AI-generated viral video of King Charles allegedly delivering an anti-Trump speech following the US president's bombing of three nuclear sites in Iran has fooled social media users.
Ahead of Trump's second state visit to the United Kingdom later this year, a video claiming to show Charles slamming the US President circulated widely online.
In the clearly doctored clip, the 76-year-old monarch allegedly said he does "not stay silent" when "Donald Trump says Iran can be erased".
"When generals whisper of bunker busters and tactical firepower, and when Israel's skies glow with the sparks of retaliation, I do not stay silent.
"I will not let the world be dragged into chaos by those who speak louder than they think.
"Mr Trump, this is not a game of missiles, this is the fate of millions."
The fake version of Charles, understood to be rendered from his first address as monarch in 2022, continued by directly addressing those who "cheer" about the bombing of the Iranian sites "from the sidelines."
"Know this: Every threat you make echoes far beyond your borders, and every move you make pulls this world closer to a fire," the 'monarch' said.
"We may not survive, but Britain—Britain knows war.
"We've stood at the edge of destruction before, and we did not flinch.
"We've seen bombs fall, cities burn, kings flee, but we never bowed.
"Now, once again, the world teeters, and I say: We will not be dragged by ego; we will not follow fury."
'King Charles' rounded out the speech by saying if Britain is "forced to rise", then "we will rise with fire in our chest and steel in our voice."
"To my people: Stand tall. To the world: Look to Britain not for war but for wisdom," he is claimed to have said.
According to a reverse image search by fact-checking website Snopes, parts of the video showed genuine clips from Charles' 2022 address.
Snopes reported the beginning of the clip was a cropped and darkened version of the King's first address, where the monarch wore an identical black suit and tie with the same background of a bouquet on his right.
The UK has a constitutional monarchy, which means that while the King is the Head of State, he remains politically impartial.
And while Charles has expressed his opinions previously, there is no evidence to suggest he made the anti-Trump speech according to Stopes, despite the genuine use of his address as a visual aid.
According to the site, deepfake audio detector Hiya also found various clips from the beginning, middle, and end of the speech highly likely to be AI-generated.
However many social media users fell for the concocted video, with one writing, "Well said King Charles."
"I'm not a fan but he speaks TRUTHS! Something [Trump] knows nothing about, only LIES!" added another.
"A real King of 2025! He is doing so well, his mom and grand mother and dad in heaven are proudly watching," wrote a third.
It comes after Trump announced the strikes on the Iranian facilities in a statement on social media on Saturday, local time.
In his address to the nation shortly after the attacks, the President declared the facilities had been "completely and totally obliterated" as he urged Iran to "make peace".
The strikes marked a significant development in the conflict in the Middle East amid ongoing rising tensions between Israel and Iran.
Days after the strikes on Wednesday, Buckingham Palace confirmed Charles will host Trump for a state visit later this year.
However, the President will bypass Charles' suggestion that the two men first meet informally over the summer when both of them are expected to be in Scotland, Britain's Press Association reported on Thursday.
According to the publication, a scheduling conflict between the monarch's and the president's diaries ended the early meeting.
British representatives last week hand-delivering the 'Manu Regia', an official invitation signalling the start of formal planning, to the White House, with confirmation of the exact date for the trip forthcoming.
It marks the first time a modern elected political leader has been hosted for two state visits by a British monarch.
A Palace aide said Charles "has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year."

'Fire Natasha': Trump lashes out at CNN journalist for 'fake news' reporting on Iran's nuclear sites, calls on her to be immediately reprimanded

President Donald Trump has lashed out at prominent media outlets this week for producing conflicting reports on the extent of damage to Iran's key nuclear sites that were struck by the US military on Sunday. The President took aim at CNN and the New York Times for publishing stories on preliminary classified findings from the US Defense Intelligence Agency, which reportedly indicated the US strikes only set back Iran's nuclear program a few months. CNN was the first news outlet to break the story on Tuesday which heavily contradicted Trump's previous statement claiming Iran's nuclear facilities were 'obliterated'. He labelled NYT reporters "bad and sick people" for downplaying the US military's efforts, but he singled out CNN reporter Natasha Bertrand for her ''fake'' coverage on the topic. Trump angrily took to his Truth Social platform to rubbish the media claims and called on Ms Bertrand to be "immediately reprimanded, then thrown out 'like a dog.''' "I watched her for three days doing Fake News,' the President wrote. 'She should be immediately reprimanded, then thrown out 'like a dog.'' The President then put another article by Ms Bertrand under the microscope and accused her of lying and attempting to "destroy our patriot pilots" in a story titled "Early US intel assessment suggests strikes on Iran did not destroy nuclear sites". "It's people like her who destroyed the reputation of a once great Network," he wrote in a post. "Her slant was so obviously negative, besides, she doesn't have what it takes to be an on camera correspondent, not even close. FIRE NATASHA!" CNN released a statement disputing the President's allegations and stood by Ms Bertrand for her accurate reporting. "We stand 100 per cent behind Natasha Bertrand's journalism and specifically her and her colleagues' reporting of the early intelligence assessment of the US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities," the network wrote in a statement. 'We do not believe it is reasonable to criticize CNN reporters for accurately reporting the existence of the assessment and accurately characterizing its findings, which are in the public interest." The network also made clear its story was a preliminary finding that could change with additional intelligence and highlighted Trump's "own deep skepticism about it". The White House addressed the CNN reports and labelled parts of the early defence agency report an 'inconclusive, low-confidence intelligence assessment' that was leaked to downplay Trump and those involved in the mission. "Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets: Total Obliteration,' the White House said.

Trump rips into 'communist lunatic' Zohran Mamdani following stunning win in NYC mayoral primary

US President Donald Trump has erupted in a blistering tirade against Zohran Mamdani, following his shock win in the race for the Democrat party's nomination for New York mayor. 'Democrats have crossed the line by elevating a 100% Communist Lunatic,' the US president declared in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. 'We've had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous,' he continued, expressing outrage at the rising influence of left-wing figures within the Democratic Party. Trump, never one to shy away from personal insults, went further – turning his fire on Mamdani's physical appearance and public speaking style. 'He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he's not very smart, he's got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin' Chuck Schumer, is grovelling over him,' Trump wrote. 'Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!' The 'AOC+3' label is a nod to the group of progressive congressional lawmakers often referred to as 'The Squad', which includes Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib – all frequent targets of Trump's ire. In a follow-up post laced with sarcasm, Trump proposed a 'dream team' of left-wing figures to lead the Democratic Party. 'The Democrats should nominate Low IQ Candidate, [Congresswoman] Jasmine Crockett, for President, and AOC+3 should be, respectively, Vice President, and three High Level Members of the Cabinet – Added together with our future Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, and our Country is really SCREWED!' he wrote. The broadside came in the wake of Mamdani's surprise primary victory on Tuesday night, which secures him the Democratic ticket heading into November's mayoral election in a city where Democrats dominate. The 32-year-old progressive pulled off a significant upset by defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who conceded after falling short by approximately 70,000 votes. Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer – whom Trump mocked in his post – struck a different tone, taking to social media to praise Mamdani's campaign. 'He ran an impressive campaign that connected with New Yorkers about affordability, fairness, & opportunity,' Schumer posted on X. 'I called Zohran Mamdani to congratulate him and look forward to meeting with him soon.' However, reactions within the Democrat ranks were far from united. Long Island Congressman Tom Suozzi, a moderate Democrat, voiced his continuing scepticism about Mamdani's platform. 'I had serious concerns about Assemblyman Mamdani before yesterday, and that is one of the reasons I endorsed his opponent,' he wrote. 'Those concerns remain.' Rep. Laura Gillen, another Democrat from Long Island, was more forthright in her condemnation. 'His entire campaign has been built on unachievable promises and higher taxes, which is the last thing New York needs,' she stated. Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist and vocal critic of American foreign policy in the Middle East, has drawn both admiration from progressives and intense criticism from centrists and conservatives alike. NATO members commit to spending hike sought by US President Donald Trump

NATO leaders have backed a big increase in military spending that US President Donald Trump had demanded, and restated their commitment to defend each other from attack after a brief summit in the Netherlands. While Trump got what he wanted at the annual meeting, tailor-made for him, his NATO allies will be relieved that he committed to the military alliance's fundamental principle of collective defence. Trump told a press conference that 'we had a great victory here', adding that he hoped that the additional funds would be spent on military hardware made in the United States. However, he threatened to punish Spain after Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez declared it could meet its commitments to NATO while spending much less than the new target of five per cent of GDP. 'I think it's terrible. You know, they (Spain) are doing very well ... And that economy could be blown right out of the water when something bad happens,' Trump said, adding that Spain would get a tougher trade deal from the US than other European Union countries. In a five-point statement, NATO endorsed the higher defence spending goal - a response not only to Trump but also to Europeans' fears that Russia poses a growing threat to their security following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The 32 allies' brief communique added: 'We reaffirm our ironclad commitment to collective defence as enshrined in Article 5 of the Washington Treaty - that an attack on one is an attack on all.' Asked to clarify his own stance on Article 5, Trump said: 'I stand with it. That's why I'm here. If I didn't stand with it, I wouldn't be here.' Trump had long demanded in no uncertain terms that other countries step up their spending to reduce NATO's heavy reliance on the US. Despite an appearance of general agreement, French President Emmanuel Macron raised the issue of the steep import tariffs threatened by Trump, and the damage they may do to transatlantic trade, as a barrier to increased military spending. 'We can't say we are going to spend more and then, at the heart of NATO, launch a trade war,' Macron said, calling it 'an aberration'. He said he had raised it several times with Trump. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who hosted the summit in his home city of The Hague, said NATO would emerge as a 'stronger, fairer and more lethal' alliance. The former Dutch prime minister said Trump deserved 'all the praise' for getting NATO members to agree on raising defence spending. Asked by a reporter if he had deployed excessive flattery to keep Trump onside during the summit, Rutte said the two men were friends and judgment of his approach was a matter of taste. The new spending target - to be achieved over the next 10 years - is a jump worth hundreds of billions of dollars a year from the current goal of two per cent of GDP, although it will be measured differently. Countries pledged to spend 3.5 per cent of GDP on core defence - such as troops and weapons - and 1.5 per cent on broader defence-related measures such as cybersecurity, protecting pipelines and adapting roads and bridges to handle heavy military vehicles.
