
Muften Highlights Military Sports' Vital Role and Achievements in Meeting with Yarallah

The head of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Dr. Aqeel Muften, emphasized the importance of military sports and their contributions both locally and internationally over the past decades. This came during his visit to the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Muften stated that 'the achievements of military sports in the championships organized by the International Military Sports Council are a source of pride.'
He also praised Iraq's military national team's success in winning the Military World Cup in football three times, in 1972, 1977, and 1979, in addition to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya Club's victory in the 2013 edition of the tournament.
Muften further highlighted that 'military sports clubs, particularly the Army Sports Club, have produced numerous outstanding athletes who have represented Iraq's national teams in international competitions, excelling both in performance and sportsmanship.'
For his part, General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah welcomed the visit of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee President, considering it a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between the Olympic Committee and the sports institutions within the Iraqi Army. He emphasized that this partnership is crucial in promoting and advancing national sports.

Iraqi national team will wear white to face Korea tomorrow
Baghdad – INA Our national team will wear white tomorrow, Thursday, to face South Korea in the decisive qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. The Iraqi Football Association said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The technical conference for the match between our national team and its South Korean counterpart was held at the Movenpick Hotel in Basra on Wednesday, in the presence of the match supervisor, the referee evaluator, the match media coordinator, and representatives of both teams."
