Musa Khudair Wins Two Medals at World Weightlifting Championships

Baghdad-INA Iraqi weightlifter Musa Khudair Sobhi excelled in the World Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships, hosted by the Peruvian capital, Lima, winning two medals alongside some of the world's most prominent weightlifters. Sobhi won the silver medal in the snatch and the bronze medal in the 89 kg clean and jerk, lifting 145 kg in the clean and jerk and 173 kg in the snatch, amidst the participation of some of the world's most prominent weightlifters. In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), head of the Iraqi Weightlifting Federation, Mohammed Kazim Muzail, said, "Winning the silver and bronze medals by weightlifter Musa Khudair in the world championship, which was characterized by intense competition, represents an honorable addition to Iraqi sports and embodies the development of weightlifting on the international stage." He added, "This achievement will be a great incentive for other Iraqi weightlifters to continue to shine and raise the Iraqi flag in international forums, with the ongoing support of the Iraqi Weightlifting Federation and the Iraqi National Olympic Committee."

This came during his visit to the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah. In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Muften stated that 'the achievements of military sports in the championships organized by the International Military Sports Council are a source of pride.' He also praised Iraq's military national team's success in winning the Military World Cup in football three times, in 1972, 1977, and 1979, in addition to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya Club's victory in the 2013 edition of the tournament. Muften further highlighted that 'military sports clubs, particularly the Army Sports Club, have produced numerous outstanding athletes who have represented Iraq's national teams in international competitions, excelling both in performance and sportsmanship.' For his part, General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah welcomed the visit of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee President, considering it a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between the Olympic Committee and the sports institutions within the Iraqi Army. He emphasized that this partnership is crucial in promoting and advancing national sports.
