Hamas says delegation leaving Doha after Gaza ceasefire talks breakdown
'A high-level leadership delegation from Hamas, headed by Mohammed Darwish, president of the movement's leadership council, and including the negotiation team and its head, Khalil al-Hayya, is departing Doha heading to Istanbul', the source told AFP.
'The delegation will hold several meetings with Turkish officials regarding the latest developments in the ceasefire negotiations, which stalled last week', the source added.
Trump says Gaza ceasefire 'possible' amid Starmer talks
For over two weeks, mediators in Qatar had been shuttling between Israeli and Hamas delegations in a bid to secure a breakthrough in indirect talks for a ceasefire and the release of hostages held in Gaza, nearly two years into the war.
The United States joined Israel last week in pulling its negotiators from the negotiations, with US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff blaming the Palestinian group for the failure to reach a deal and saying Washington would 'consider alternative options'.
Hamas politburo member Bassem Naim told AFP on Friday that the latest discussions focused on details of an Israeli military withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Israel has resisted international calls to agree a ceasefire in Gaza, with UN-backed experts warning on Tuesday that the Palestinian territory was slipping into famine.
Israeli foreign minister Gideon Saar called the ceasefire demands 'a distorted campaign of international pressure against Israel' that would leave Hamas in power in Gaza.
'It ain't gonna happen, no matter how much pressure is put on Israel', he said at a press conference Tuesday.

Pakistan issues fresh call for Afghans to leave
Pakistan issued a new call on Friday for Afghans living in Balochistan to leave the country, triggering thousands to rush to the border, officials said. "We have received directives from the home department to launch a fresh drive to repatriate all Afghans... in a respectful and orderly manner," Mehar Ullah, a senior government official in Quetta, told AFP. The province borders Afghanistan and there are significant ties between the regions. Pakistan relinquishes UNSC presidency
Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad hosted a largely attended reception to mark the end of Pakistan's presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of July. Heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the United Nations, senior UN officials, prominent citizens and senior journalists attended the event held on Thursday. Pakistan's former's UN Ambassador, Munir Akram, also attended the reception. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar thanked his counterparts and guests for attending the reception and for their cooperation during Pakistan's presidency of the Council. He also thanked former Ambassador Akram, a well known figure at the UN, for his presence at the gathering. During its presidency, besides other agenda items, Pakistan organised two signature events — an high-level open debate on "Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes". At the end of the debate, the 15-member Council unanimously adopted a Pakistan-sponsored resolution calling on member-states to take measures for the effective implementation of the Council's resolutions for peaceful settlement of disputes. The other signature event was a high-level briefing of the Security Council focusing on enhancing cooperation between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) following which a presidential statement was issued. Pakistan also presided over the quarterly open debate of the Council on the "Situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian Question". The high-level events were presided over by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar. Pakistan began its current two-year term as a non-permanent member in January 2025 and will serve through the end of 2026.
