US CDC merges bird flu and influenza updates

Reuters2 days ago
July 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has merged H5N1 bird flu updates with routine updates for seasonal influenza, the agency's website showed on Monday.
The number of people monitored and tested for bird flu will be reported on a monthly basis, the agency said, adding that it will no longer report infection rates in animals on its website.
Earlier in the day, Bloomberg News reported that CDC has ended its emergency response for bird flu as the outbreak has abated.
The agency did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the Bloomberg report.

The health benefits of sun exposure you might not know

While excessive sun exposure carries risks such as skin damage and melanoma, moderate exposure offers potential health benefits. Studies have linked sunshine to lower blood pressure and suggest it may be a strategy for preventing heart failure. Research indicates that the sun 's ultraviolet B rays can support a healthy immune system and protect the central nervous system. Ultraviolet light exposure is known to improve symptoms for conditions like eczema and is used in light therapy for psoriasis. Despite the benefits, it is crucial to remember that any tan signifies skin damage, and skin cancer, including melanoma, remains a significant risk, affecting all skin types.

RITZ cracker labeling error poses serious risk to people with peanut allergies

Mondelēz Global LLC has issued an urgent recall for several RITZ cracker sandwich products due to a critical labeling error. Some individually wrapped peanut butter cracker packs were mistakenly labeled as cheese, posing a serious risk to individuals with peanut allergies. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that consuming these mislabeled products could trigger severe or life-threatening allergic reactions. The recall affects specific 8-pack, 20-pack, and 40-pack cartons of peanut butter cracker sandwiches, as well as the 20-pack RITZ Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack, produced with certain plant codes and best-by dates. The error was attributed to defective film packaging from a supplier, and consumers with peanut allergies are advised to dispose of the affected products immediately.
