Ludhiana: 86 drug peddlers' properties razed under Yudh Nashian Virudh drive, says Sond
Punjab cabinet minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday said that illegal properties belonging to 86 drug peddlers have been demolished under the state's flagship Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign.
The minister was addressing village defence committee meetings and public gatherings during the Nasha Mukti Yatra events held at Goh, Lalheri and Ratnheri villages.
Sond warned drug traffickers to either quit the illegal trade or leave Punjab. He also criticised previous governments for their inaction on the drug crisis and reaffirmed the current administration's commitment to eradicating drugs from the state. During the events, the minister administered an anti-drug oath, urging residents to help build a vibrant and drug-free Punjab.
Sond encouraged the youth to focus on education and sports, warning that drug addiction leaves a lasting stigma. He revealed plans to construct stadiums in every village and establish 3,000 gyms across major rural areas to promote healthy lifestyles.

Nearly 15,500 smugglers held in Punjab anti-drug drive
In three months of launching its anti-drug drive 'Yudh Nashian Virudh', the Punjab Police have arrested 15,495 drug smugglers and registered 9,087 FIRs, according to an official. A roadmap has been prepared to eliminate drugs from Punjab. To achieve this, a two-pronged strategy is being adopted to further dismantle the narcotics network by segregating big drug suppliers and peddlers from the drug users, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said. Along with this, a balanced approach of zero tolerance has been adopted by taking stringent legal actions against traffickers and motivating users to undergo de-addiction treatment, he said. 'Our aim is to choke the supply chain by isolating and punishing the actual drug dealers while offering a compassionate path to recovery for drug users,' said Yadav. Sharing the outcome of the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' drive, the DGP said the police have registered 9,087 FIRs and arrested 15,495 drug smugglers since March 1.

The police recovered six sophisticated firearms, including two PX5.30 pistols and four 9 mm Glock pistols, all loaded with live cartridges. The operation was carried out after receiving a specific tip-off about the illegal smuggling activities. Further investigation is underway to identify the full network of backwards and forward linkages related to the smuggling operation. 'Acting on a specific tip-off, Tarn Taran Police busts a cross-border weapon smuggling module with links to Pakistan and arrests Surajpal Singh & Arshdeep Singh from Village Lakhna, and recovers six sophisticated weapons. The state's law and order and internal security situation were also reviewed. 'A key focus of our meeting was a detailed review of the past three months' performance under the Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign,' Punjab DGP, Gaurav Yadav, wrote in an X post. He added that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force ADGP gave a 'comprehensive presentation', followed by 'district-level updates by respective CPs/SSPs'. Yudh Nashian Virudh's campaign emphasises both intensified enforcement and robust community-based prevention to effectively tackle drug abuse across Punjab. 'The @ANTFPunjab outlined an action plan that balances strict law enforcement with rehabilitation and grassroots engagement, ensuring a comprehensive approach to eradicating drugs from our communities,' DGP Yadav's post further read, adding, 'I urge all officers and units of the @PunjabPoliceInd to continue working with dedication, integrity, and a proactive spirit. Earlier on May 28, Punjab's Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested three drug traffickers- Maninderjit Singh, Peter, and Lovejit Singh @ Raja near Shankar Dhaba on Attari Road, Amritsar. Acting swiftly on a tip-off, the team seized 'four PX5 Storm pistols, 521 grams of heroin, 7 magazines & 55 live cartridges,' DGP Punjab Police posted in a tweet. An FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act has been registered at PS ANTF, SAS Nagar. The DGP also wrote, '@ANTFPunjab is actively pursuing both forward and backwards linkages to dismantle the entire network.'He further added, '@PunjabPoliceInd remains firmly committed to eradicating drug syndicates, seizing illegal arms, and building a #NashaMuktPunjab.'
