John Woeltz: Crypto King Who Tortured Italian Bitcoin Billionaire Was Known for Spending $100K at Erotic NYC Nightclub with William Duplessie
The 'Kentucky crypto king', who is accused of torturing an Italian Bitcoin millionaire inside a luxurious New York City townhouse for more than two weeks till he escaped from his captivity, was known for spending a whopping $100,000 in one night at an exclusive erotic nightclub.
John Woeltz, 37, and his alleged partner, William Duplessie, 33, began regularly visiting The Box — a notorious club on the Lower East Side — starting in February, according to sources who spoke with TMZ. The duo was spotted there on multiple nights in a row, reportedly spending between $80,000 and $100,000 during each visit. Woeltz was arrested last week, while Duplessie surrendered to police Tuesday.
Bad Boys, Bad Habits
Sources said that on at least one night, Duplessie was photographed partying shirtless at the club, with a woman sitting on his shoulders. The pair frequently brought women they met at The Box back to a luxurious SoHo apartment for private afterparties, according to insiders.
The shocking revelations surfaced after Woeltz and Duplessie were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and torturing Italian Bitcoin millionaire Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan inside a lavish Prince Street townhouse.
Carturan, whose net worth is said to be around $30 million, was reportedly tricked into going to the upscale SoHo house, where he was held hostage and tortured in an attempt to force him to give up his Bitcoin password.
The disturbing ordeal came to light only after the Italian victim managed to flee the SoHo townhouse last Friday, bloodied and barefoot, while his captors were momentarily distracted, according to police.
He claimed he had been brutally assaulted with a chainsaw, drugged, electrocuted with wires, and repeatedly threatened with death over the course of nearly three weeks.
This came as a chilling new video emerged that captures the moment the Italian crypto millionaire broke free from his kidnappers. The disturbing video obtained by NBC New York shows a shaken and barefoot Carturan running to an NYPD traffic officer on Friday, visibly distressed and traumatized.
Dangerous Liaisons
Carturan had just escaped from a lavish six-story apartment on Prince Street where he was allegedly chained up, electrocuted, and brutally taunted with a chainsaw for 17 days by captors who demanded access to his cryptocurrency password, according to the authorities.
A distressed Carturan told the officer that he managed to flee after being warned it would be his "death day." Police said that he had visible bruises, cuts, and ligature marks on his wrists from being tied up.
Not long after the victim's escape, Woeltz was arrested and charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping plot.
Duplessie, on the other hand, turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday, following reports that he had spent a luxurious Memorial Day weekend in the Hamptons.

Who Is Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja? Neighbor Who Shoot Dead 'King of the Hill' Voice Actor Jonathan Joss After Heated Argument Arrested
The man who allegedly shot and killed "King of the Hill" voice actor Jonathan Joss has been arrested, according to a report. The suspect, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, was arrested in Texas on Sunday, June 1, at 7:05 p.m, according to online records, the New York Post reported. He faces a charge of first-degree felony murder, with his bond set at $200,000. Joss, best known for voicing a character on the popular animated series "King of the Hill", was reportedly shot dead by a neighbor in Texas. Joss, who voiced "John Redcorn" on the animated series, got into a heated argument with Ceja at his San Antonio home on Sunday night. Argument Leading to Death During the altercation, Ceja drew a gun and shot Joss multiple times. Ceja fled the scene by car but was arrested by authorities just one block away. As authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the deadly shooting, neighbors told TMZ that Joss and Ceja had a long-standing dispute and were reportedly involved in past verbal and physical altercations. According to Joss' neighbors, his house was destroyed in a fire back in February, which reportedly started when he tried to heat the home using a BBQ pit after his electricity was cut off. They said that on Sunday, Joss returned to the property to pick up a check from a victim's fire relief fund and found the remains of one of his cherished dogs that had died in the blaze, the New York Post reported. The sight of the dog's remains sent Joss into a fury, and he began shouting at anyone nearby, including Alvarez Ceja, who lived just two houses away, according to eyewitnesses, the publication reported. Neighbors said that such outbursts from Joss were common. They claimed that police had been called on him multiple times before his home caught fire earlier this year. They also alleged that Joss often engaged in strange behavior, such as banging pots and pans on his rooftop in the middle of the night. More Mystery into the Death Before the fire, Joss' home had reportedly been deemed unsafe and uninhabitable— a situation neighbors say led to his electricity being disconnected. According to the Post, a GoFundMe campaign was launched for Joss after the incident, successfully raising $10,721 to assist him. Details on the fundraising page revealed that the house was originally built in 1957 by Joss' father as a gift for his mother, and sadly, three of his dogs lost their lives in the fire. Joss, a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake University, is survived by his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, whom he married on Valentine's Day. His final credited role on IMDb was in 2023, lending his voice to characters in CD Projekt RED's video game "Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty", where he starred alongside Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba. Joss also voiced the character Healing in the animated drama "Unplugged" by Paul McComas and Holly Trasti, appearing with the late Louis Gossett Jr., the late Ed Asner, Christina Ricci, and Jeri Ryan.

Curtis Means/Pool via REUTERS William Duplessie appears in Manhattan Criminal Court as an indictment is prepared to be handed down for his involvement in the Crypto Currency kidnapping, in New York City, U.S. May 30, 2025. Jefferson Siegel/Pool via REUTERS NEW YORK - A second man has been indicted in New York after being charged with kidnapping a man for three weeks in Manhattan's upscale SoHo neighborhood, shocking him with electric wires, and dangling him over a staircase to try to get him to give up his bitcoin password, prosecutors said on Friday. A Manhattan grand jury's indictment of William Duplessie, 33, came after he made a brief court appearance earlier on Friday, three days after his arrest. Prosecutors with the Manhattan District Attorney's office say Duplessie and John Woeltz on May 6 took a man's electronics and password and demanded they share his password so they could steal his cryptocurrency. When the man refused to share his password, Duplessie and Woeltz allegedly began a series of brutal beatings over three weeks in a luxury townhouse until the man managed to escape. Woeltz was indicted on Thursday. Neither Duplessie nor Woeltz has yet entered pleas, and their lawyers have declined to comment. Both are due back in court on June 11. Local media have called Woeltz, 37, a cryptocurrency investor and described the alleged victim as an Italian man. Both Woeltz and the alleged victim had ties to a crypto hedge fund in New York, the New York Times reported, citing an internal police report described by a law enforcement official. Woeltz and Duplessie are accused of tying the man's wrists, hitting him on the head with a gun, and threatening to kill his family, according to criminal complaints against the two men filed in court. The alleged incident comes as three cryptocurrency-linked kidnappings or kidnapping attempts have taken place in France so far this year. The rapid rise in the price of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in recent years has created a new group of wealthy investors, who could be tempting targets for criminals, security experts told Reuters.
