Police Investigate Organisation Of LGBTProgramme In Petaling Jaya
SHAH ALAM, May 31 (Bernama) -- Police are investigating the attempt to organise a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) programme believed to be taking place in Petaling Jaya on June 21.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said his team had detected a post on social media believed to be made by the youth wing of a political party planning to organise the programme.
He said so far, his team had received 21 police reports lodged at 11 district police headquarters by non-governmental organisaitons (NGOs) and the public opposing the organisation of this event.
"Investigations are being conducted under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Bukit Aman," he said in a statement today.
Hussein also reminded the public and any individuals not to participate in the programme, which is seen as exceeding the sensitivity of the people and violating the country's laws that do not support any form of LGBT practices within the country.
He also said that any party that remains adamant can be subjected to strict action through legal provisions such as Section 298A of the Penal Code, Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
"The police will continue to monitor this development and take appropriate action to ensure public order and to comply with the country's laws," he added.

Meanwhile, Media Mutiara Club president Mohd Iskandar Othman said Hawana was now an important platform to honour the role of the media in championing freedom and safety of journalists and to spur discussions on ethics, digital challenges and the future of the media industry. He also expressed his appreciation to the Communications Ministry's initiative to launch Tabung Kasih @Hawana in April 2023, which is implemented by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama). "Since its launch, the fund has provided aid to 315 media practitioners throughout the country, including those who are active and retired, focusing on those with health problems, facing difficulties in life or affected by disasters. "The initiative not only provide financial aid but also shows care and concern to journalists who have greatly contributed to society," he said. The highlight of Hawana 2025 will take place on June 14 at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with an estimated 1,000 media practitioners, both local and foreign, in attendance. Hawana, organised by the Communications Ministry and with Bernama as its implementing agency, offers various events, including a Pesta Pantun on May 31 and a prelaunch with strategic partners at Wisma Bernama on June 3, as well as a media jointly organised with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) on June 14.

Woman charged with abusing niece
CHUKAI: A restaurant operator was charged in the Sessions Court here with abusing her cousin's daughter. The 52-year-old woman pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Sessions Court judge Wan Suhaila Mohd. According to the charge, the woman, who had custody of the 15-year-old girl, is alleged to have neglected and caused physical injuries to the teenager. The offence was allegedly committed at 5.30pm at a restaurant in Binjai near here between March and May 22, Bernama reported. She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides a fine of up to RM50,000, a jail term of up to 20 years, or both upon conviction.

The PM is calling for clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of the Vietnamese state, local authorities, businesses and citizens in implementing Resolution 168. — Bernama HANOI: Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh on May 31 chaired a dialogue with enterprises and business associations to effectively implement a resolution on the private economy's development. PM Chính said that after the Politburo issued Resolution 68, the government submitted to the National Assembly a proposal to issue Resolution 198 on specific mechanisms and policies to promote private economic development. The government subsequently issued its own programme and action plan to implement the resolution. The PM emphasised that the resolutions are already comprehensive and well-coordinated. The most desired now is to organise implementation effectively, guided by the spirit of 'thinking deeply and acting boldly.' It also needs to find the most efficient approaches to unlock the potential of nearly one million enterprises and five million household businesses. He called for clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of the state, local authorities, businesses and citizens in implementing the resolution. PM Chính also urged unity and coordination with the spirit. 'When the party has provided direction, the government is committed, the National Assembly agrees, the people are supportive and the country is hopeful, we only discuss how to act, not whether to retreat.' At the dialogue, minister and Government Office chairman Tran Van Son announced the decision to establish the National Steering Committee for the implementation of the resolution.
