Two arrested over effigy of PM at Pas-led rally
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two men in connection with the circulation of a video depicting an effigy resembling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim brought to the Pas-led rally, which took place here on Saturday. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said communication devices believed to have been used to upload and distribute information related to the incident were also seized when the police arrested the suspects, aged between 21 and 47. "A remand application for the suspects arrested will be made," he said in a statement. Khalid said police are investigating rally participants who brought and whipped an effigy resembling the prime minister, in which the act was recorded and uploaded to social media by certain parties. He added the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit, D5 Division of Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department. Khalid said the public is advised to be responsible social media users and not to use it as a platform for incitement that could lead to disharmony and disrupt public order. KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed receiving four reports linked to the rally held at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday. Police probe false social media claim on Sultan of Kelantan's death
KOTA BHARU: Police have confirmed receiving a report regarding a false claim circulated on social media alleging that the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, had died last week. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the case is being investigated by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of Bukit Aman. Bukit Aman takes over Ipoh murder case linked to organised crime
IPOH: The Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of Bukit Aman has taken over the probe into the murder of a 57-year-old man found with stab and gunshot wounds at a residence in Taman Tasek Damai on June 24. Perak Police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin confirmed the decision, citing links to an organised crime syndicate. Noor Hisam stated that authorities have sought assistance from ASEANAPOL, Interpol, and other agencies. 'Initially, it was treated as a local crime, but further investigation revealed cross-border elements involving organised crime,' he said during the Perak Police Blood Donation Programme, held alongside the 218th Police Day.
