Tripura CM mulls sex education in Class VIII-XII curriculum
on Friday said the state govt is considering the introduction of sex education in the curriculum for students in Classes VIII to XII.
Speaking at the legislative forum in the state assembly, Saha emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, "We are considering incorporating sex education and HIV/AIDS awareness in the school curriculum in Class VIII-XII.

This is not a matter of controversy, it is a necessity." He also encouraged community involvement, suggesting that MLAs could allocate funds to support HIV/AIDS patients.
Saha highlighted the equal impact of HIV/AIDS on both boys and girls and stressed the importance of engaging youth in sports, cultural activities, and other creative pursuits to steer them away from drug addiction and reduce their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.
He said Tripura was the first state in India to introduce Red Ribbon Clubs in schools and plans to create youth ambassadors to lead campaigns against drug abuse.
Expressing concern over the rising number of HIV/AIDS cases and injecting drug users, particularly among teenagers, Saha said an average of 120 new HIV infections are reported each month in the state, despite preventive efforts by the state AIDS Control Society.
In response to a proposal by Congress legislator Sudip Roybarman, the chief minister supported the idea of adding a dedicated chapter on sex education and HIV/AIDS to the school curriculum to raise awareness among the most vulnerable age group.
Additionally, he suggested that each MLA could allocate Rs 1 lakh per year from their area development fund for initiatives against drugs and HIV.

Under Mukhyamantri Yuva Yojana, 70,000 young entrepreneurs have received interest-free, guarantee-free loans to establish their own enterprises, he said. The chief minister also highlighted Etah's traditional identity, noting that the bells and ghungroos of Jalesar remain an integral part of temple worship and music gatherings. Linking this cultural heritage with modern development, he said UP is preparing its roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047.

Guntur market auction nets Rs 6 crore windfall for GMC
Guntur: Money virtually rained on Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) as it successfully completed the long-pending auction of shops in the city's wholesale vegetable market. Held 25 years after the market complex was built, the auction is expected to generate Rs 50 lakh per month from 81 shops — up from the previous rental income of Rs 6.7 lakh. This marks a staggering 550% revenue jump, with annual earnings projected at Rs 6 crore against the earlier Rs 81.58 lakh. The auction process was fraught with political resistance. GMC commissioner Puli Srinivasulu uncovered years of deliberate stalling by traders, resulting in major losses to the exchequer. After tracking multiple court cases over six months, he secured high court clearance to proceed. Local MLA Mohammed Naseer opposed the move, demanding that existing traders be retained with nominal rent hikes and objecting to the proposed SC/ST reservation system. Despite pressure, commissioner Srinivasulu released the auction schedule. Tewari raises Chandigarh's waste management issues in Parliament
1 2 Chandigarh: Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari on Thursday raised multiple questions related to solid waste management and its associated issues in the Lok Sabha. While responding to the questions from Tewari regarding the solid waste processing plant in Chandigarh, generation of garbage, or any action on the private concessionaire, Union minister of state for the ministry of housing & urban affairs (MoHUA) Tokhan Sahu said in the Lok Sabha that sanitation was a state subject under the 7th Schedule and by the 74th amendment of the Constitution of India, the devolution of power had been made to the urban local bodies (ULBs) for water and sanitation services. "It is the responsibility of states, UTs, and ULBs to plan, design, execute, and operate sanitation projects in the urban areas of the country. The ministry of housing & urban affairs (MoHUA) supplements the efforts of states and UTs by providing policy directions, financial and technical support, sharing manuals, standards of procedures (SoPs) on solid waste management (SWM) and used water management (UWM), and issuing various advisories and guidelines from time to time for choosing appropriate technologies to manage solid and liquid waste," the minister stated. The minister further said, "The UT of Chandigarh has reported that 100% door-to-door collection is practised in 100% of the wards and source segregation is being practised in 100% of the wards, which is 35 wards out of the total 35 wards. Further, the processing of municipal solid waste is also reported to be 100%, which is total 490 tons per day (TPD) of waste generated is processed. To carry forward the progress made, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-U) 2.0 was launched on October 1, 2021, for a period of five years with a vision of achieving garbage-free status for all cities through source segregation, door-to-door collection, and scientific management of all fractions of waste.
