UAE President launches new Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity
The foundation will work with countries and international partners to invest in sustainable initiatives that improve healthcare systems and boost development.
Sheikh Mohamed received a delegation from the foundation at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed , Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs, Chairman of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, and Chair of Erth Zayed Philanthropies, according to state news agency Wam.
During the meeting, the UAE President was briefed on the foundation's mission, which is committed to supporting charitable and humanitarian initiatives, improving the quality of life and building a better future for all.
'The Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity reflects the UAE's determination to build a more equitable world by catalysing innovation, seeking out new solutions, and building partnerships that can uplift and enable communities worldwide," said Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed.
"The foundation is a new chapter in this legacy of progress, representing a further commitment to delivering sustainable change where it is needed most.'
Boosting health infrastructure
The foundation will invest in health systems to boost workforces in less wealthy nations and provide new equipment to help tackle preventable diseases. It is hoped its programmes will reach more than 500 million people in more than 50 countries across Asia, Africa and the Middle East over a five-year period.
The announcement comes as the Emirates marks Zayed Humanitarian Day, the annual commemoration of UAE Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who championed causes to improve the lives of billions of people around the world.
The foundation will also boost the Reaching the Last Mile organisation, with commitments towards ending polio, malaria and neglected tropical diseases.
Building on legacy of work
The foundation will operate under the umbrella of Erth Zayed Philanthropies, an organisation Sheikh Mohamed established last year to lead global humanitarian efforts.

The UAE has set out its commitment to helping people in need through key initiatives aimed at tackling diseases and offering respite to communities affected by war and natural disasters, as well as addressing the human cost of climate change.
In 2017, the Emirates launched the Reaching the Last Mile Fund, a 10-year $500 million project backed by Sheikh Mohamed with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The fund supports an international mission to eradicate neglected tropical diseases, as well as polio and malaria.
The UAE has also offered vital support to the Palestinian people since the Gaza war broke out on October 7, 2023. An Emirati aid ship carrying more than 5,800 tonnes of supplies for the embattled enclave docked in Egypt's Al Arish port on Sunday, further demonstrating the UAE's long-standing solidarity with the Palestinian people.
More than 65,000 tonnes of aid has been delivered to Gaza since the start of the deadly conflict, with about 600 flights, seven transport ships and nearly 3,500 lorries used to carry goods from Egypt into the enclave. An aid flight operation has delivered more than 3,700 tonnes of supplies to inaccessible areas.
In February, the UAE pledged a further $200 million for Sudan to help alleviate a humanitarian crisis prompted by the civil war, which has raged since April 2023, killing tens of thousands of people and displacing millions.

Egypt - Mohamed El-Shimy, Minister of Public Enterprises, affirmed that the pharmaceutical industry is a vital pillar of health security and a key driver of the national economy, stressing that its development within the ministry's affiliated companies is a strategic priority. His remarks came while chairing the General Assembly meeting of the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals (Holdipharma) to approve the budget plan for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. During the meeting, Ashraf El-Khouly, CEO and Managing Director of Holdipharma, presented the board's report, which included the draft budget for the coming fiscal year. The plan targets consolidated revenues of EGP 18bn, a 131% increase compared to 2023/2024, and net profits of EGP 3.4bn—up 343%. The report also noted the growth in the market value of the group's listed companies. The meeting, attended by Board Chair Ahmed Hegazy, members of the General Assembly, and representatives of the Central Auditing Organisation, marked the final approval of all holding companies' and subsidiaries' budgets for the new fiscal year. Minister El-Shimy explained that the ministry is working to localise and deepen pharmaceutical manufacturing, transfer and apply the latest global production technologies, and enhance product quality to strengthen competitiveness in local, regional, and international markets. Development plans include upgrading production lines, increasing manufacturing capacity, adhering to the highest standards of sustainability, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), ensuring occupational health and safety, and optimising the use of assets, capacities, and resources. He added that human capital development is central to achieving these targets, through specialised training and qualification programmes that encourage innovation and advance scientific research, alongside fostering partnerships with the private sector both domestically and internationally. These measures aim to increase production and export capacity, and open new markets to bolster the competitiveness of the national industry. El-Shimy stressed that reforming the financial structures of subsidiary companies is a top priority to ensure sustainable profitability and secure the resources needed for production expansion. He underscored the importance of updating organisational structures and management systems to meet current needs, while accelerating the implementation of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to improve operational efficiency and ensure precise oversight of resources and production. The presentation also highlighted major projects and investment opportunities, including the production of biological drugs, insulin and biosimilars, dry powder inhalation tablets, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and hormones. It outlined partnerships with leading international companies, such as US-based Dawah, to produce and export products including ampoules, nutritional supplements, sterile injections, and sterile ophthalmic preparations. El-Shimy concluded by stressing the integration of economic, social, and environmental dimensions to ensure comprehensive sustainability in the company's activities. He called for promoting professional conduct, improving the work environment, and raising performance standards across all administrative and executive levels. Sharjah issues decision to regulate health activities, professions
The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), during its meeting, on Tuesday, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Council, issued a decision regarding the regulation of practising health activities and professions in the Emirate of Sharjah. The provisions of the decision apply to local health establishments affiliated with the government of the emirate, as well as private health facilities in the emirate and free zones. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), chaired the SEC meeting, on Tuesday, held at the Sharjah Ruler's Office. At the start of the meeting, the SEC extended its congratulations to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as well as to the leadership and people of the United Arab Emirates, on the occasion of Faya being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The provisions apply to local health establishments affiliated with the Government of Sharjah and private health facilities in the Emirate and free zones, as well as professionals working in those establishments. The provisions do not apply to federal government health facilities operating in the Emirate. The decision aims to achieve the following: Establish an integrated system for health regulation management concerned with the development of health facility licensing services by the Sharjah Health Authority, as well as the licensing of health professionals and the assurance of quality healthcare services. Promote good governance standards by reinforcing the principles of transparency, fairness, and legal accountability in the Emirate's healthcare sector. Lay down the legal foundations for practising health professions to ensure their advancement and the provision of the best healthcare services to individuals. The decision also includes legal provisions related to the powers of the Sharjah Health Authority, committees on accountability, medical practice and grievances, as well as regulations for the practice of health activities and professions, conditions and procedures for issuing health facility permits and professional health licences, along with administrative penalties, fees, judicial enforcement, and other legal stipulations.

Abu Dhabi DoE launches summer safety warning
Abu Dhabi authorities have issued a summer safety warning over electrical and gas appliances as well as air conditioning equipment. The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has launched a new awareness campaign titled 'Your Safety is Our Priority' to promote safe and responsible energy consumption across the emirate. The campaign aims to educate both individuals and businesses on preventing electricity and gas-related risks, especially during peak usage months. Therefore, this campaign was conceived to connect with people through straightforward language and actionable content that aids in reducing accidents and encourages the sustainable consumption of energy.'
