Kinfra yet to decide on returning land
Kinfra legal manager Saju Sugathan told TOI that the land is owned by Kinfra and it has the right to sell it to any prospective buyer. The land and building were allegedly taken from the woman by the accused in the Nirmal Krishna fraud a few years ago and she has been in a legal battle to reclaim it.
"There is a case over the disputed land and building at the commercial court and it must be resolved before a decision can be made. Kinfra leased out the land to its current owner by following all rules and with Usha's consent.
Kinfra has complete right to decide to whom the land should be given, but a decision is yet to be taken," said Sugathan.
Umesh had claimed the case at the commercial court was filed against the illegal transfer of land and building to its current owner and it can be withdrawn at any time if Kinfra took an appropriate decision.
Recently, Buds authority attached the land and building after its owners, K Nirmalan and Sreejith, were involved in Nirmal Krishna deposit fraud. Since the property was owned by the woman as per the available records, Buds authority revoked the attachments and sought the district collector's help in recovering the lease premium which the accused paid to Kinfra. Home department order also directed Kinfra to remit the lease premium to Buds authority.
However, Kinfra hasn't yet decided either on transferring the land to Umesh, or on remitting the lease premium paid by the accused.

AI helps trace, nab truck driver involved in hit-and-run from UP
Nagpur: The Nagpur rural police used AI (artificial intelligence) through their indigenous tool, MARVEL, to apprehend a truck driver responsible for a hit-and-run accident on Nagpur-Jabalpur highway. The driver was tracked 700km away on Gwalior-Kanpur highway and was apprehended in less than a week on Saturday. On August 16, Deolapar police arrested Satyapal Rajendra, 28, from Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, at his residence and seized the vehicle involved in the incident. The hit-and-run case gained widespread attention after a man's video of returning home on a bike with his wife's body tied to the seat went viral on social media. SP Nagpur (rural), Harssh A Poddar, said that the AI-driven technology calculated the truck's average speed as captured by a CCTV if it passed unhindered. "AI red flags if any anomaly is found in the calculated average speed and the actual one. We fed information into the system about a red truck which threw up results about five such vehicles. Subsequent investigations led the police to zero in on the accused who has now been apprehended," said Poddar, adding the vehicle plied between the Chandrapur-Kanpur-Delhi route. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Gyarsi Yadav, 30, was killed and her husband, Amit, 35, injured after a truck with UP registration number hit their two-wheeler near Morphata Dargah under Deolapar police station limits on August 10. DU delays Veer Savarkar College opening as approval pending with ministry
New Delhi: Delhi University has ruled out holding a separate admission exercise for its newly built Veer Savarkar College, making the institution's launch entirely dependent on financial clearance from the education ministry. Vice chancellor Yogesh Singh told TOI that if approval does not come by end of the month, the college will not open this year and will instead take its first batch of students in 2026. The college will offer thousands of additional seats with a provision of reservation for local students — a first for the university. However, with the admission cycle for existing DU colleges nearing completion, officials said there is no scope for integrating a late entrant. "Unless the proposal is cleared this month, admissions will not happen this year," Singh said. The West Delhi project is part of DU's expansion plan to reach underserved areas of the capital and ease the pressure on its crowded North and South campuses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in Jan for the campus, built at a cost over Rs 140 crore across an 18,816 square metres plot in Roshanpura. The decision to provide a quota for local students, drawn from west Delhi districts, was taken to address long-standing demands from residents who often travel to far-off campuses for higher education. This provision makes Savarkar College the first DU institution to adopt such a model. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
