5 Smart Tips To Build A Wardrobe That Doesn't Harm The Planet

The fashion industry is one of the planet's biggest polluters. Here are some smart tips to create a wardrobe that does not harm the planet in the longer run.
In a world obsessed with trend cycles and next-day delivery, the fashion industry has become one of the planet's biggest polluters, second only to oil. From excessive water usage to landfill-bound textile waste, our clothing choices have far-reaching consequences. But sustainability in fashion isn't just an industry buzzword anymore; it's becoming a personal responsibility.
'The good news is that change doesn't require a complete overhaul of your wardrobe. Even small, conscious choices can collectively create a massive impact," says Kapil Bhatia, Founder & CEO of UNIREC, a homegrown brand that specialises in sustainable apparel.
Whether you're a minimalist or a trend enthusiast, here are five practical tips to help you build a wardrobe that aligns with both your values and the planet's future.
1. Prioritise Quality Over Quantity
The most sustainable garment is the one that lasts. 'Instead of buying five low-quality items that wear out fast, invest in one well-crafted piece," says Bhatia. Look for strong stitching, breathable fabrics, and timeless cuts. Not only will your clothes last longer, but you'll reduce textile waste and save money in the long run.
2. Opt for Recycled or Low-Impact Fabrics
3. Build a Capsule Wardrobe
Capsule wardrobes are all about doing more with less. Think: classic polos, neutral jackets, and versatile co-ords that can be mixed and matched across seasons. 'A minimalist wardrobe cuts down impulse shopping and encourages you to wear each piece more often," says Bhatia. The result? Less waste and more mindful dressing.
4. Support Circular Fashion Initiatives
Forward-thinking brands are now offering take-back programs where worn or damaged clothing gets upcycled. 'Some pieces are repurposed into accessories or handicrafts, merging sustainability with social impact," he shares. Engaging with such initiatives extends the life of your clothes and keeps them out of landfills.
5. Shop Mindfully
'Sustainable fashion isn't a trend, it's a lifestyle shift. And it begins with every thoughtful choice we make," Bhatia adds. Every purchase counts. Before buying anything new, ask yourself: Is this a need or a want? Will I wear it at least 30 times? These small pauses lead to more conscious consumption.

Parineeti's Healthy Protein Chaat Recipe Is The Guilt-Free Tasty Snack You Need

Last Updated: Parineeti Chopra delights fans with a healthy and tasty protein chaat recipe made with air-fried papdi, Greek yogurt, chutneys, and love. Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra has just made snacking guilt-free and glamorous. She went to Instagram to post a speedy, healthy and totally scrumptious recipe — a protein chaat prepared right at home. 'Eat and show off to people (like I'm doing)," she mentioned in the happy story that put smiles on fans' faces and growls in their tummies. The recipe, posted on her Instagram story, immediately gathered attention as being easy and earthy. A Healthy Spin on Chaat with Substitutions Forget deep-fried street food. Parineeti's version gives the beloved chaat a nutritious spin. She begins by making mini besan (gram flour) rotis. Instead of frying them, she pops them into the air fryer — crisp, oil-free and golden. She stacks these crunchy papdis with a good spoonful of Greek dahi, minced onions, sour imli (tamarind) chutney and green chilies. Steamed aloo (potatoes) provides heft, and a sprinkle of black chaat masala completes the dish. Each mouthful resembles a perfect combination of health and bliss. She also advises, 'Eat and show off people (like I am doing)." Who is Parineeti Chopra? Parineeti Chopra is one of Bollywood's most versatile talents. She started her acting journey with Ishaqzaade in 2012, where her bold and lively act caught the eye of critics as well as the audience. Since then, she has been seen essaying all kinds of characters across genres—from light-hearted rom-coms to hard-hitting dramas. She's not only recognized for her on-screen talent but for her off-screen personality too, frequently giving us peeks into her life and interests on social media. Fans Love Her Relatable Vibe Parineeti's fans adore her for her honesty, warmth, and relatability. Her latest post is no different. With simple ingredients and an even simpler approach, she makes it easy for anyone to recreate this protein chaat at home. By replacing fried with air-fried, and adding Greek yogurt, she healthifies the street food favourite. It's a conscious pleasure that doesn't dip into taste. Back to Screens Soon Parineeti Chopra was seen most recently in the musical drama Amar Singh Chamkila, with Diljit Dosanjh. The film, which is about the popular pop star duo Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur, was released on Netflix on April 12, 2024. Now, the actress is gearing up for a mystery thriller series on Netflix. Directed by Rensil D'Silva and produced by Siddharth P Malhotra, the untitled show also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Anup Soni, Jennifer Winget and Chaitannya Choudhry. It promises to be yet another exciting project in Parineeti's growing OTT journey. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
