Greek migration min. asserts importance of Egypt's presiding over ministerial meeting of Khartoum Process
CAIRO - 10 April 2025: Greek Migration and Asylum Minister Makis Voridis asserted the importance of Egypt's presiding over the ministerial meeting of Khartoum Process where it played a very pivotal role, adding that an extended strategy was reached in all the countries participating in the meeting.
He pointed out that Khartoum Process started ten years ago and it is a dialogue forum between the countries of the Horn of Africa and the European countries. In statements to MENA on Thursday, Voridis said that the participants necessitated presenting support to legal migration as it caters for countries' needs of regular labor. There is a dire need for international cooperation to face up the phenomenon of illegal migration, he said. Several countries, including Egypt and Greece, face serious challenges due to the current conflicts in the region because of the big number of humans who want to immigrate and the volume of money won by the smugglers, he said.
Voridis said that he held fruitful meetings with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Labor Minister Mohamed Gobran and Deputy Foreign Minister for Emigration Affairs Nabil el Habashi on boosting cooperation with Egypt to export skillful labor to Greece to meet the needs of the sectors of agriculture and construction and work on preventing illegal immigration coming from Egypt.

OPEN// Egypt reaffirms rejection of escalation in Gaza, decries 'Greater Israel' statements
CAIRO, Aug 15 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's categorical rejection of the ongoing Israeli military escalation in Gaza, the recent expansion of settlement activity in the West Bank, and inflammatory statements advocating the so-called "Greater Israel." He stressed that such actions only serve to inflame tensions, escalate conflict, and undermine regional stability. The remarks came during a phone call on Friday between Abdelatty and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. The phone call was held in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to intensify international efforts toward securing a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating urgent humanitarian assistance. They engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the latest political, security, and humanitarian developments in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty stressed the urgent need to establish a credible political horizon that paves the way for a just and sustainable resolution to the Palestinian issue, one that ensures the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's ongoing efforts to mediate a ceasefire and underscored the need for stronger international engagement, particularly from the European Union (EU), to help end hostilities and guarantee the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid. He placed full responsibility on Israel, as the occupying power, for keeping Gaza's five border crossings closed, calling for their immediate reopening and the removal of all obstacles hindering the flow of urgent humanitarian and medical assistance, measures he described as contributing to a deliberate policy of starvation. During the phone call, Abdelatty briefed the EU official on Egypt's intensive efforts, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, to reach a comprehensive agreement ensuring a ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian access, and a hostage-prisoner swap, involving the release of hostages and a number of Palestinian detainees. The call also addressed Egypt's preparations to host an international conference in Cairo on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, set to take place immediately after a ceasefire is achieved. The conference is being organized in coordination with regional and international partners, including the EU. For her part, the EU high representative praised Egypt's sustained efforts to de-escalate the situation and secure a ceasefire, as well as its key role in alleviating the unbearable suffering of the Palestinian people by facilitating the delivery of aid. She expressed the EU's readiness to participate in the Gaza reconstruction conference and work closely with Egypt to ensure unhindered humanitarian access and the success of efforts exerted to achieve a ceasefire. Egypt, UK FMs Hold Talks on Gaza Ceasefire, Bilateral Ties
Taarek Refaat Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdel Ati held a telephone conversation with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral relations and advancing efforts toward a ceasefire in Gaza, alongside ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged territory. Abdel Ati hailed the recent positive momentum in Egyptian–British relations, underscoring Cairo's determination to elevate ties to a strategic partnership. He emphasized the importance of building on this progress to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly in economic, trade, and investment domains. Turning to the situation in Gaza, Abdel Ati stressed the urgent need for the international community to confront what he described as 'irresponsible and unacceptable' Israeli policies and statements, warning they risk further escalation and violence in the region. He said such actions constitute violations of international law and global norms at a time when regional and international partners are working intensively to halt Israel's ongoing military campaign and allow humanitarian relief into the enclave without conditions. The Egyptian minister welcomed announcements by several Western countries — including the UK — of their intention, or consideration, to recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly session in September. He underlined that broadening the recognition of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is 'the only path to achieving security and stability for all peoples of the region.' Abdel Ati also listened to Lammy's assessments regarding the recognition issue and its potential implications. The Egyptian foreign minister briefed his British counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to facilitate humanitarian access to Gaza amid what he described as 'catastrophic humanitarian conditions,' calling for international pressure to end the policy of starvation targeting civilians. He also outlined Egypt's preparations, in coordination with the Palestinian government and the United Nations, to host a conference on early recovery and reconstruction immediately after a ceasefire is reached. On his part, Lammy expressed the UK's appreciation and support for Egypt's diplomatic and humanitarian efforts on Gaza, affirming London's readiness to cooperate closely in pursuing peace and stability in the region. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated
