World reacts to US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities
The US launched coordinated airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday, signaling a major escalation in the ongoing war between Iran and 'Israel'.
US President Donald Trump, who ordered the attacks, addressed the nation in a televised speech from the White House, declaring, "Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace."
The announcement triggered swift reactions from across the globe.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the attacks as "outrageous" and warned of far-reaching consequences. "The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences," he posted on X, labeling the strikes as "lawless and criminal." He affirmed Iran's right to self-defense under the UN Charter and stressed that "Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people."
Iran's Atomic Energy Organization also denounced the strikes, calling them 'a barbaric act that violates international law.' In a statement, the agency vowed to continue the country's nuclear development, calling it "the result of the blood of nuclear martyrs."
'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US action, calling it a historic turning point. "Your bold decision to target Iran's nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history," Netanyahu said in a video message addressed to Trump. He claimed the strikes fulfilled his long-standing pledge to neutralize Iran's nuclear program.
Meanwhile, Hamas issued a strong rebuke, condemning the attack as a "blatant US aggression against the territory and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran." The group called it "a dangerous escalation... a flagrant violation of international law, and a direct threat to international peace and security."
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed grave concern over what he described as a 'dangerous escalation in a region already on the edge.' He urged restraint, stating, "There is no military solution. The only path forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace."
In Washington, the strikes sparked fierce criticism from political opponents. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries accused Trump of bypassing Congress and risking a wider war. "Donald Trump shoulders complete and total responsibility for any adverse consequences that flow from his unilateral military action," Jeffries said.

Diego Garcia is a strategically important UK-U.S. military base located in the Chagos Islands. Reynolds said Britain knew about the strike in advance. "I can't tell you exactly when we did know, but we were informed, as you might expect," he said.
