Man hospitalized with serious injuries following single-vehicle rollover in Wakefield
A man was hospitalized with serious injuries following a single-vehicle rollover in Wakefield on Saturday morning.
Around 6:27 a.m., the Wakefield Fire and Police Departments received a call reporting that a car crashed and rolled over in the area of 384 Vernon St. The crash occurred amid snowy weather conditions and wet roads.
Upon arrival, firefighters and police observed a car upside down on its roof in the roadway, along with a wooden utility pole that was snapped as a result of the crash.
The single occupant of the car was still inside the vehicle. Firefighters took about three minutes to remove the person from the vehicle. He was then transported by ambulance to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington with serious injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Wakefield Police Department.
Wakefield firefighters stretched a hose line as a precaution in case of a fire due to the spread of vehicle fluids on the ground. After that, firefighters applied Speedy Dry absorbent on the affected area to soak up the vehicle fluids, before cleaning up the debris from the scene.
The Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department was called to the scene to repair the broken utility pole. The incident resulted in a power outage in the neighborhood that lasted for about two hours.
'I'd like to give our firefighters credit for a quick response to this rollover crash,' said Fire Chief Michael Sullivan. 'We were able to extricate the occupant very quickly from the vehicle and get him off to the hospital shortly after the crash. This incident is a reminder to all drivers to be extra cautious when operating on roads that are wet and snowy. As always, we thank our partners at the Wakefield Police Department for their assistance and professionalism in responding to this crash.'
The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Boy dead, girl injured after crashing car they stole from delivery driver in NH, police say
A boy is dead and another girl is seriously injured after they crashed a car they stole from a delivery driver in New Hampshire. According to Manchester police, on May 28, around 12:50 a.m. officers responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle in the area of 5 Clifford Avenue. The victim, a food delivery driver, told officers he had briefly left his 2014 Toyota Corolla unattended. When he returned, the vehicle was gone. Officers spotted the vehicle about an hour later in the area of Kenberma Street. The vehicle was operating without headlights and quickly accelerated away when emergency lights and sirens were activated. A pursuit was initiated and continued onto the highway, where the officer stopped the chase after they lost sight of the vehicle. Around 2:00 a.m. New Hampshire State Police discovered the car in the area of Route 101 westbound at the Kilton Road off-ramp in Bedford, where it had crashed. The male driver, a juvenile, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. A female passenger, also a juvenile, has serious, but not critical injuries, Bedford police said. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The names of those involved in the crash haven't been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation. This is a developing story. Large tree falls, crushes cars in Boston
A large tree fell, ripped down wires, and crushed multiple cars in a Boston neighborhood on Monday morning. The toppled tree smashed down on cars that were parked along Sutherland Street in Brighton. Crews with Boston Parks and Recreation responded to the scene and were working to cut up the downed tree with chainsaws. A resident of the neighborhood said she was getting ready for the day when she heard a loud bang around 6:30 a.m. 'I wasn't sure what it was, but I heard a loud crash outside,' the resident said.
