Troubled Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer banned for three months with immediate effect for ‘non-sporting offences'

The Sun9 hours ago

A TROUBLED Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer has been banned for three months with immediate effect for 'non-sporting offences'.
David Cottin has been denied the right to appeal the verdict handed down by France Galop, according to Paris Turf.
1
Cottin, who was previously banned for 12 months (six suspended on condition of good behaviour) after horses in his yard failed drugs tests, cannot have another runner until late September.
The French handler saddled the JP McManus-owned Easysland to Cross Country Chase success at the 2020 Festival.
He was previously 'one of the most charismatic jockeys' before becoming a trainer and is son of famed French handler Philippe Cottin.
The release confirming Cottin's ban did not state explicitly how he had breached the terms of his licence.
French racing journalist Adrien Cugnasse told the Nick Luck Daily podcast earlier this year more on the 'sad story'.
The reporter claimed Cottin was trying to buy Champagne at the bar at Auteuil but 'went crazy' when his card didn't work.
He was then allegedly given a two-month ban from the racecourse after an argument with a bar worker.
Cugnasse then went onto divulge unconfirmed reports of a 'street fight' involving Cottin.
More to follow.

Club World Cup: Benfica gets first-ever win over Bayern Munich to top Group C

Benfica's Andreas Schjelderup struck in the first half to seal a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in sweltering heat on Tuesday, sending the Portuguese side to the top of Group C at the Club World Cup. After securing their first-ever victory over Bayern, Benfica will face Chelsea or Esperance de Tunis in the last 16. Bayern, finishing second, are set to face Group D leaders Flamengo. Schjelderup broke the deadlock after 13 minutes with a first-time finish off Fredrik Aursnes' low cross from the right, capitalising on a lapse in Bayern's backline. Fran Kirby names leaders pivotal to England's Euros hopes after key withdrawals

Sarina Wiegman's England squad will be without Fran Kirby, Mary Earps and Millie Bright as they set about defending their Women's Euros title in Switzerland this summer Fran Kirby is confident England's Euros squad is full of leaders despite high-profile withdrawals in the lead-up to the tournament. Kirby announced her international retirement in early June, just a few days after fellow Euro 2022 winner Mary Earps. Sarina Wiegman will also be without Lionesses star Millie Bright for the tournament, after the defender said she was 'not able to give 100 per cent mentally or physically. " Kirby still has faith in the levels of experience and leadership in the group, though. ‌ England go into this summer's tournament in Switzerland as reigning champions, having won the last edition of the Euros on home soil, but have been handed a tough group stage draw. They take on France in their opening game on July 5, with matches against Holland and Wales to follow. ‌ 'Obviously you lose three players who have a lot of experience, it's difficult. But for me, looking at that squad, I see a lot of leaders in there,' Kirby told Mirror Football at an event hosted by leading ticket marketplace, viagogo. 'I see a lot of leaders that people from the outside maybe don't see, but from the inside they're very influential and very driven and they help drive the standards of the team. And you only know that once you're in the environment with those sorts of people." 'So yes, it's going to be a massive loss to not have those players but there are other players who can step up into their roles. People like Lucy [Bronze], Alex Greenwood's there, Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway, all these players that have played in major tournaments for the past three, four tournaments. So for me I don't see that as a concern. 'Obviously there was a lot of noise going on around 'what's going on in the England team, what's happening here and there' but these things happen. It becomes a cycle - players retire, players move on, and it's not a case of trying to make things difficult for anyone, it's just a decision that that person makes and it has to be respected." 'But for me, looking at that squad, I'm excited by it. I'm very excited by it regardless of who's not there. For me it's an exciting squad and there's a lot of leaders in that team who have been there and pulled the team through difficult moments previously." ‌ Kirby weighed up her retirement decision for 'over a year,' ultimately making sure she was able to say goodbye to her team-mates on her own terms, and is confident that was the right approach. 'When I spoke to Sarina about it, it was a case of do you want to do it now or do you want to wait, and I was like 'Do you know what, I'd rather do it so I tell the girls to their faces and it doesn't come out on social media, it doesn't get told by anyone else',' she added. 'I've played with a lot of those girls for a long time, so I wanted to give the respect to the moment so I could say thank you to all of them and wish them good luck to their faces, and tell them I hope they go on and have an amazing time. So it was a really nice moment and the girls were lovely. 'Lucy said some really nice words which I really appreciated as well - obviously she's someone I've played with for a long time. It was a really nice moment and I'm really glad I did it that way rather than… letting rumours spiral, I could just address it and then kind of get on with it.'

Celeb SAS sign up England cricket legend to take on TV's toughest test

CELEBRITY SAS: Who Dares Wins has signed up an England cricket legend, The Sun can reveal. The hit Channel 4 show - which launched in 2015 - puts a group of ordinary people through a tough quasi military training course. 5 5 5 The civilian series of SAS: Who Dares Wins ended in 2023, but the star version lives on. The Sun can now reveal that England cricketing hero Graeme Swann is being lined to appear on the next series. The retired sports star, 46, who also previously competed on Strictly Come Dancing, is set to be part of the star-studded line-up. A source told us: 'Sports stars always do well in the Celeb SAS line-up, and bosses are chuffed they've got Graeme to sign on the dotted line. "Not only is he familiar to cricket fans, he's also a reality TV favourite too after his stint on Strictly in 2018, where he finished in seventh place. 'Graeme is used to the pressure of international sporting events, and the acid tongues of the Strictly panel, but nothing will prepare him for his toughest TV show yet.' During his time in the England Test team, Graeme became a key factor as the team rose to No1 in the world. Swanny played a key role in historic wins in both Australia and India. Among his closest friends in cricket are the record-breaking duo Jimmy Anderson and Alastair Cook. Graeme, who retired from the sport in 2013, was part of the 2009 team who won the Ashes. Celeb SAS Who Dares Wins winners revealed This latest news comes after The Sun revealed earlier today how former Love Island star Dani Dyer would also be part of the line-up for the new series. SHOW SHAKE-UP The Sun's latest revelations come after we exclusively revealed how Celebrity SAS is set for a major shake-up. It came after we revealed how the new series will take place in a new location. A show insider said: 'Last series, there was a bit of a cash crisis at Channel 4 so the series shunned exotic locales and filmed in Wales. "Bosses made it work but it felt like it wasn't on as big a scale as when they have filmed in foreign climes, so for the next series, execs are blowing the budget and pushing the boat out to film in Marrakech instead. "It's more expensive but will look amazing on camera.' 5 5 Earlier this year, The Sun revealed how Celebrity SAS had been saved from the axe - after bosses had considered quietly ending the series. But after seeing footage of the upcoming series, execs couldn't let it go. A TV insider revealed: 'Channel 4 never officially announced that Celebrity SAS had been dropped, but behind closed doors, they had decided not to bring it back — at least for the time being. 'It's an expensive show to make, as far as reality shows go, and budgets have been tightened.' The hit series originally featured Ant Middleton as Head Instructor from 2015 to 2021. Since his departure, Mark "Billy" Billingham has taken over that position. Other Directing Staff (DS) includes Jason "Foxy" Fox, Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver.
