BIG win for Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries emerged one of top contenders to develop Mumbai's 70 hectares of…, along famous…
Five months after the BMC's Expression of Interest (EoI) wherein it invited private companies and voluntary organisations to develop and maintain 70 hectares of the open land near the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), now Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has emerged as the top contenders in a proposal . A proposal to finalise RIL has been sent to the municipal commissioner's office. After the final approval, the agency will submit detailed designs along with a timeline, reported Indian Express.
The 10.58-km Coastal Road, connects to Marine Drive's Princess Street Flyover and then to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL). A 7.5-kilometre-long area is under construction out of which Tata Sons is developing the 5-hectare area.
Out of the 111 hectares of land reclaimed from the sea, BMC wants to develop 70 hectares of open landscape as green pockets with gardens, cycling tracks and amphitheatres.
Remaining 53 hectares, near Breach Candy to Worli, BMC was trying to find private companies to develop and maintain the open space for which an EOI was submitted. It invited private companies and voluntary organisations to design, develop and maintain this land. Five big companies like Jindal, Raymond, RPG foundation, Vedanta besides Reliance had shown interest in the proposal.
The EOI is also looking for companies with previous experience of developing similar projects within the past five years. BMC had proposed nearly Rs. 400 crore as the cost of the project works but it will be developed through CSR funding of the finalised party. Even as the BMC had revealed a blueprint for the works between Priyadarshini Park to Worli in March 2024 it has not finalised any design.
'After the proposal is approved, we will send them a selection intimation. Upon their finalisation, the agency will then submit their design proposals, which will be approved by the civic body after checking whether their designs align with the CRZ norms and the Supreme Court guidelines,' reported Free Press citing sources.

Zouk eyes Rs 1000 crore revenue in 4-5 years, doubles down on premium play and offline retail
New Delhi: Homegrown vegan lifestyle brand Zouk is gearing up for its next phase of growth with a target of reaching Rs 1,000 crore in revenue in the next 4-5 years and eventually hit the bourses, a company's official said. As of March 31, 2024, the company had reported an annual turnover of Rs 78.2 crore. However, it did not share the previous year's revenue figures. Having established a strong digital-first presence , Zouk is now turning its focus to exclusive brand outlets (EBOs), premium product launches, and a strategic global foray, co-founder and COO Pradeep Krishnakumar said in an interview with ETRetail. 'We've built a strong digital foundation, but we've always believed Zouk is a brand consumers want to touch and feel,' he said. 'That's where offline retail becomes critical.' The company currently operates over 10 EBOs and plans to expand to reach 20 stores by the end of this year. The brand's offline footprint has primarily focused on cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and tier 2 regions such as Indore, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad. 'Our expansion strategy includes entering more high-street locations and malls in non-metro cities, which are showing promising traction,' he shared. Talking about the brand's hero product, Krishnakumar said, "Our office bags continue to be the hero product. It's that sweet spot where style meets utility, and Indian women relate to it deeply." He added that laptop sleeves and slings have also gained traction, while backpacks, introduced recently, are being tested for scale. 'We don't expand categories for the sake of it — we evaluate data, market gaps, and customer demand,' he said. Premiumisation with purpose When asked about its premium offerings, he said, 'Premium in India can't just mean gold zips and a higher price tag. Our customers are value-conscious — they expect better materials, smarter compartments, and more thoughtful design.' The Rhea Kapoor x Zouk collection , launched earlier this year, represents this premium shift. The range has helped Zouk move into the higher price bracket while maintaining its vegan, cruelty-free promise. Zouk had raised $14.8 million in funding from investors like Stellaris Venture Partners, Titan Capital and Aavishkaar Capital. While the company isn't profitable yet, Krishnakumar said it's running a capital-efficient model. 'We are close to profitability but this is a build phase for us. We're investing in brand, retail, and team — profitability will follow,' he said. Offline retail is a big part of that build. 'We're not rushing into hundreds of stores. It's a phased rollout with a clear view on unit economics and brand visibility,' he added. Zouk is also looking beyond India. The company is exploring select global markets, starting with the US, Europe, and the Middle East. 'We've had early conversations internationally and we plan to start some work this fiscal. But for now, India remains our primary focus,' Krishnakumar said.

Good Glamm delays paying salaries again amid cash crunch
Beauty products and content company Good Glamm Group , which is grappling with a cash crunch and seeking to raise capital at a significantly marked-down valuation, has delayed employee salaries for the second consecutive month, people familiar with the matter told ET. The company had earlier informed employees that their April pay would be disbursed along with the salary for May in June. However, as of June 3, salaries have not been credited, and there has been no communication so far from the management on the delay. Additionally, full and final settlements for former employees have also not been cleared, leaving both current and ex-staff under significant financial strain. 'April and May salaries were supposed to come together, but that doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon. At this point, it's obvious to everyone that it's because of funding. Good Glamm Group was under the impression that funding would arrive in January, and it has been delayed since then,' an employee told ET on condition of anonymity. Babita Bharati, who worked as a freelance copywriter for Good Glamm's portfolio brand The Moms Co in March and April, took to LinkedIn to share screenshots alleging she is yet to receive her full payment of Rs 18,100. 'They are waiting for investor funding to clear dues. It just shows how bad things are. Every time I emailed someone, they had already left the company—even my point of contact,' she told ET. The Mumbai-based company has been selling or exploring the sale of several portfolio brands in a bid to maintain liquidity and keep operations running during this turbulent period. According to one person aware of the developments, Good Glamm is evaluating the sale of its stake in personal care brand Organic Harvest back to the brand's founders. However, the company continues to struggle meeting expenses. The uncertainty has also triggered a wave of employee exits. The latest high-profile departure came when Kartik Rao, the group's former chief people officer and a board member at WYN Beauty (a joint venture with Serena Williams), left to join AI-driven recruitment platform Vahan. ai. Good Glamm declined to comment on ET's queries. As part of its cost-cutting measures, the company shut down its Vasant Kunj office in New Delhi earlier this year. Operations temporarily moved to a location in Greater Kailash, but employees are now working remotely, one staffer confirmed. On April 11, ET reported that the company is in advanced talks to sell its media and influencer talent management arm, MissMalini Entertainment, to marketing agency Creativefuel. In February, Good Glamm sold feminine hygiene brand Sirona back to its original founders for around Rs 150 crore—well below the Rs 450 crore it had paid to acquire the brand. It also offloaded digital media subsidiary ScoopWhoop to Bengaluru-based meme marketing agency WLDD at a valuation of Rs 18–20 crore, a fraction of the Rs 100 crore it paid in 2021. The company has also explored selling stakes in other assets, including personal care brand The Moms Co and content platform POPxo. On January 29, representatives from investment firms Accel, Prosus Ventures, and Bessemer Venture Partners resigned from the company's board. In March 2024, Good Glamm raised USD 30 million in a flat round from existing investors, including Warburg Pincus, Prosus Ventures, Bessemer, and Accel. The funding was intended to support working capital needs and bridge a larger round that is yet to materialise. Good Glamm was formed in 2021 through the merger of Darpan Sanghvi's MyGlamm, Priyanka Gill's POPxo, and Naiyya Saggi's BabyChakra. Over the past year, the company has witnessed a string of high-profile exits. In May 2024, Sukhleen Aneja, the chief executive of The Good Brands (Good Glamm's D2C vertical), left to join beauty and fashion retailer Nykaa. Gill became a venture partner at Kalaari Capital before launching her own lab-grown diamond brand, Coluxe, while Saggi is starting a new consumer electronics venture.
