BIG win for Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries emerged one of top contenders to develop Mumbai's 70 hectares of…, along famous…

Five months after the BMC's Expression of Interest (EoI) wherein it invited private companies and voluntary organisations to develop and maintain 70 hectares of the open land near the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), now Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has emerged as the top contenders in a proposal . A proposal to finalise RIL has been sent to the municipal commissioner's office. After the final approval, the agency will submit detailed designs along with a timeline, reported Indian Express. The 10.58-km Coastal Road, connects to Marine Drive's Princess Street Flyover and then to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL). A 7.5-kilometre-long area is under construction out of which Tata Sons is developing the 5-hectare area. Out of the 111 hectares of land reclaimed from the sea, BMC wants to develop 70 hectares of open landscape as green pockets with gardens, cycling tracks and amphitheatres. Remaining 53 hectares, near Breach Candy to Worli, BMC was trying to find private companies to develop and maintain the open space for which an EOI was submitted. It invited private companies and voluntary organisations to design, develop and maintain this land. Five big companies like Jindal, Raymond, RPG foundation, Vedanta besides Reliance had shown interest in the proposal. The EOI is also looking for companies with previous experience of developing similar projects within the past five years. BMC had proposed nearly Rs. 400 crore as the cost of the project works but it will be developed through CSR funding of the finalised party. Even as the BMC had revealed a blueprint for the works between Priyadarshini Park to Worli in March 2024 it has not finalised any design. 'After the proposal is approved, we will send them a selection intimation. Upon their finalisation, the agency will then submit their design proposals, which will be approved by the civic body after checking whether their designs align with the CRZ norms and the Supreme Court guidelines,' reported Free Press citing sources.

RIL frontrunner to develop 70 hectares of open space along Mumbai Coastal Road

Nearly five months after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) floated an Expression of Interest (EoI) inviting private companies and voluntary organisations to develop and maintain nearly 70 hectares of the open landscape along the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has emerged as the frontrunner to develop the land parcel. A proposal to finalise RIL as the voluntary agency for the landscaping work on the open space has been forwarded to the municipal commissioner's office. After the final nod, the agency is slated to submit the design proposals, along with a timeline for the landscaping works. Among the total bidders, RIL has emerged as one of the top contenders with the civic body, last week, sending a proposal to finalise it as the voluntary agency to carry out landscaping works. 'Among the other agencies, Reliance was the only corporate entity satisfying the conditions of the EOI. The other companies were falling short on some or the other criteria enlisted in the scope of works,' a civic official privy to the developments told The Indian Express. A query sent to the RIL did not elicit any response. Of the 111 hectares of land reclaimed from the sea to develop MCRP, BMC has earmarked 70 hectares to develop an open landscape encompassing green pockets, gardens, cycling tracks and amphitheatres. Within the ambit of this landscape, BMC is developing a Marine Drive-like 7.5-km-long promenade along the coast, which accounts for nearly 11 hectares while the median of the arterial road — accounting for 5 hectares of the open space — is being beautified by Tata Sons Limited. For the rest 53 hectares, which spans open space on the landward side from Breach Candy to Worli, BMC was eyeing to rope in private entities to develop and maintain the open space for which an EOI was floated, inviting private companies and voluntary organisations for designing, developing and maintaining the massive land parcel. At least five big companies including Jindal, Raymond, RPG foundation, Vedanta besides Reliance had thrown their hat in the ring. As per the EOI, the scope of works for the volunteer agency encompasses development and maintenance of the parks, gardens, water bodies as well as cycle and pedestrian tracks besides other softscape elements like plantation, irrigation etc over a space spanning 53 hectares. Besides, the agency will also be charged with the maintenance of the promenade. Meanwhile, the EOI also called for agencies with technical capacity and previous experience of executing similar projects within the past five years. While the civic body had proposed nearly Rs. 400 crore as the cost of the project works, the landscaping and maintenance works will be developed through CSR funding by the finalised party. Even as the BMC had floated a blueprint for the landscaping works between Priyadarshini Park to Worli in March 2024, the civic body has not imposed any design for the volunteer agency. 'After the proposal is approved, we will send them a selection intimation. Upon their finalisation, the agency will then submit their design proposals, which will be approved by the civic body after checking whether their designs align with the CRZ norms and the Supreme Court guidelines,' added sources.

Changing City: Helipad coming up in Worli coastal road for medical emergency, tourism, VIP movement

Eyeing a fillip to multimodal transportation in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to construct a helipad at a pre-existing Worli jetty abutting the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP). Situated 120 metres into the sea, a temporary marine jetty at Worli – for coastal road works – is now slated to be developed into a helipad for emergency use, as well as boosting tourism. Earlier this year, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde instructed civic officials to consider the possibility of developing the helipad. After studies by the Maharashtra Maritime Board found the jetty structurally sound and gave its nod for using the jetty for multimodal transportation, the BMC roped in Pawan Hans Ltd as a consultant to conduct feasibility studies for developing the jetty into a helipad. The project is aimed at catering to medical emergencies, boosting tourism, while also facilitating the VIP movement. Being the financial capital of the country, civic officials said that the helipad would also improve our transportation in the city by providing an alternative means. It forms a part of the government's plan to boost multimodal transportation in the region. The helipad is proposed to be constructed at the existing Worli jetty, exactly opposite the Worli Dairy. The platform of the existing jetty spans about 750 sq metres, and is projected 120 metres into the sea. According to officials, the helipad is slated to come up abutting the promenade along the coastal swathes. This is among the two jetties that the civic body had constructed as a part of the MCRP. While one jetty at Amarsons Garden, which was built on stilts and constructed with steel, was dismantled, the jetty near Worli Dairy, being constructed in RCC, was used for surveillance by the coastal police. Recently, Pavan Hans Ltd, which is a public enterprise under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has submitted reports approving the development of the jetty into a helipad. Now, the civic body is in the process of procuring approvals from other agencies, ranging from the defence ministry to the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) authority. 'The jetty was initially constructed for material carriage and interchange work on the coastal road project. Since this was a concrete and permanent structure, the plan to develop a helipad was floated. Since the work was immediate, we appointed Pawan Hans Ltd as consultants at a cost of Rs 5 lakh for feasibility studies. Now that we have received their report approving the plan, we will be working on procuring other approvals,' said a civic body officer. Besides aiding during medical emergencies and VIP movement, the officer said the area can also serve the purpose of marine surveillance for the coastal police.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) identified the man as 32-year-old Dijon Barber. According to CDCR's release, officials were alerted around 11:30 a.m. that Barber had removed his GPS device. Staff then conducted an emergency count and confirmed that Barber was missing from the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) facility. Officials did not immediately specify exactly how Barber escaped other than the fact that he 'walked away' from the facility.
