Lisa Kudrow says her Friends character Phoebe ‘was so far from who I am'
Speaking to US actress Parker Posey for Variety's Actors On Actors series, she said: 'It (the series) was fun the whole time, because we had fun, the cast had fun.
'It was like a collaboration with the writers, because they were so great and nice and good.
'But me being Phoebe was so far from who I was as a human being that it was work.
'I needed to justify everything she was saying in my head so that it felt like she meant it and it was real to her. It was a lot of work.
'And I remember like season two or three, and I was just doing it, and went, 'Oh my god, I'm not doing the work. I don't know if this is going as well. I'm not doing the work'.
'I was really fretting over it. And (Matt) LeBlanc went, 'What's the matter with you?'. I said, 'I'm not doing the work that I did. I used to like really work, and he said, 'You're her. You don't have to do it anymore'.'
Alongside her role in Friends, Kudrow is known for starring in a number of TV series as well as comedy films Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and The Opposite Of Sex.
In 2023 she thanked her late co-star Perry for 'the best 10 years a person gets to have' while filming Friends in a tribute following his death at the age of 54.
During their conversation, Posey, who has starred in films including Dazed And Confused and Superman Returns, spoke about one of her more recent roles playing a southern woman called Victoria Ratliff in season three of Mike White's dark comedy, The White Lotus.
She said: 'It was such a gift to have this middle-aged woman at this time in my life, in my career, to be the southern woman.
'I was reading Tennessee Williams in junior high and high school and southern writers and all of this. So I was like, I just ate it up.'

Jennifer Aniston offered a rare, unguarded look into her private life while reflecting on everything a frightening stalking incident and bizarre dating rumors to the grief of losing longtime friend Matthew Perry. During her vulnerable interview with Vanity Fair, the Friends star, 56, confessed she often wrestles with 'what to and not to share.' Shrek 5 release date is delayed until 2027 as fans say they all 'know why'
The release of Shrek 5 has been delayed until summer 2027. The upcoming DreamWorks' movie — whose teaser was slammed by fans — has been pushed back six months, moving from December 23, 2026 to June 30, 2027. Upon hearing the news, initially reported by Variety, fans commented online that they 'know why' the beloved franchise's latest installment has been stalled. Eddie explained that he will only get to see his co-stars at the premiere of the movie as all of his voice work for the picture was done alone. He said: 'At the end of the movie or when the movie comes out, we see each other at the premiere, but we don't see each other the whole movie. 'It's all just you by yourself and a microphone.' The Hollywood fixture revealed that Donkey is getting his own standalone film that will begin production in September. Asked if Shrek 5's animation is being worked on now, he told ScreenRant in July: 'No, they're still doing voiceover stuff. We're still in the booth, and literally, we're still doing Shrek. 'We start in September on Donkey. We're doing a Donkey one, and that'll be three years from now, but we're about two years into Shrek 5. Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September.' The Beverly Hills Cop star confirmed that Donkey will be getting in his own film in the same way that Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) has previously and that the picture will see him have his 'own little story with his dragon wife.' 'They've written this funny story. We're doing that, starting that in September,' he reiterated. The prospect of Shrek 5 was first discussed by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri in 2023 as he expressed hope of reuniting the original cast for the movie. The film producer told Variety: 'We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we've gotten is there's tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.'
