Egypt police eliminates two terrorists attempting to target state instiutations
Its forces succeeded in eliminating two terrorists, one of whom Hasm had illegally brought into the country to carry out hostile acts against state institutions.
The ministry said in a statement that it had received information indicating that leaders of the Hasm movement, the armed wing of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood, were planning to revive their activities after fleeing to turkey.
They sought to carry out attacks targeting security and economic facilities.
The statement explained that the plot was planned by five of the movement's leaders, who have been sentenced in various terrorism cases to various sentences. It continued that the movement's leaders pushed one of the movement's fugitive members from a border country, where he had previously received advanced military training, to infiltrate the country illegally.
The statement indicated that this coincided with the movement's release of a video, spread online, showing its members training in a desert area of a neighboring country and threatening to carry out terrorist operations in Egypt.
The ministry stated that Ahmed Mohamed Abdel-Razek Ahmed Ghoneim, a member of the terrorist movement, had been tracked into the country.
Ghoneim had been convicted in several terrorism cases, including a death sentence for targeting security guards in Sharqiya, a life imprisonment for attempting to target the presidential plane, and the assassination of Lieutenant Colonel Maged Abdel-Razek, an officer at Nozha Police Station.
Ghoneim was tracked down as he illegally entered the country via desert routes, and used an apartment in Bulaq al-Dakrour area in Giza as his hideout.
He was planning to carry out the terrorist plot in collaboration with Ehab Abdel-Latif Mohamed Abdel-Qader, a member of the movement who is wanted for attempted attacks on several high-profile figures.
Following permission from the Supreme State Security Prosecution, a raid was conducted on the hideout of the terrorists. The terrorists began firing randomly at the forces and the area surrounding the property, prompting a counter-terrorism operation.
The exchange of fire resulted in their deaths, as well as the death of a citizen who happened to be passing by, who succumbed to his injuries as a result of the terrorists' indiscriminate gunfire.
A force officer was also injured while attempting to rescue the citizen.
The Supreme State Security Prosecution was notified and is conducting investigations.
The Interior Ministry affirms its continued efforts to fight back the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group and its supporters, which aim to undermine Egypt's security and stability.

Greece and Egypt remain pillars of stability: Greek FM - Foreign Affairs
During his meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, in Athens on Wednesday, Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis affirmed that Greece remains a firm supporter of Egypt within the European Union. "It is with great pleasure and honour that I welcome to the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs my dear friend, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdelatty," said Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis on Tuesday in Athens. "In May 2025, we signed the Joint Declaration establishing the Strategic Partnership between our two neighbouring countries – a relationship that reflects the deep historical ties between our peoples and the enduring legacy of our ancient civilisations," he noted. "At the same time, this partnership vividly demonstrates the current strength of our cooperation, which has reached an all-time high, grounded in international law and mutual understanding across a range of complex geopolitical issues," he added. Gerapetritis described Greece and Egypt as "pillars of stability" in a region marked by escalating crises and intricate challenges. "We have developed an exemplary and multifaceted relationship, particularly in the sensitive Eastern Mediterranean," he stressed. Referring to the Agreement on the Delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone between the two countries, Gerapetritis described it as "exemplary", noting that it remains a model agreement five years after its signing. Turning to the situation in Gaza, the Greek minister reaffirmed that "our absolute priority remains achieving a ceasefire, ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to civilians, and securing the unconditional release of hostages." "In coordination with Egypt, we will continue to take humanitarian initiatives in the region," he said. On Syria, Gerapetritis condemned the recent attacks on civilians and religious sites in the country's south. Concerning Libya – a country he described as a "common neighbour" – Gerapetritis briefed Minister Abdelatty on his recent visits to Benghazi and Tripoli. "A stable and unified Libya is not only in the interest of the Libyan people but also critical to regional peace and prosperity," he emphasised. He also confirmed that the two countries had agreed to strengthen cooperation in tackling irregular migration flows. Commenting on the historic Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai, Gerapetritis stated: "For Greece and Orthodox Christians everywhere, the Monastery is not only the oldest continually functioning place of worship, but also a unique symbol of ecumenical heritage." "Just as in our meeting in Cairo last June, today's discussion in Athens was extremely constructive, particularly regarding the legal status of the Monastery and efforts to further highlight its role as a global religious centre," he added. "I received firm assurances from my friend the Minister that the continuity and Greek Orthodox character of the Monastery will remain intact – a testament to Egypt's longstanding respect for religious freedom and its tradition of tolerance," he noted. The Greek minister went on to express appreciation for what he described as "exemplary cooperation," both bilaterally and within international organisations. "On the bilateral level, we are working systematically to strengthen trade ties, enhance energy interconnectivity – particularly through the flagship GREGY Interconnector project – and ensure the continuous development of legal migration pathways from Egypt to Greece. These efforts are of immense value to the Greek economy," he explained. He further underscored the importance of removing bureaucratic hurdles hindering the implementation of the legal migration agreement between the two countries. "Greece remains a steadfast supporter of Egypt within the European Union," he said. "It played a leading role in securing the EU-Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement and continues to actively support its implementation." El-Sisi stresses Arab unity, warns against external interference - Foreign Affairs
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi underscored on Wednesday the strength of Egypt's relations with Arab states and the necessity of overcoming disagreements to preserve Arab unity, affirming that any external interference aims to destabilise Arab states. El-Sisi's remarks came during an inspection visit to the Egyptian Military Academy at the State's Strategic Command Headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi emphasised that Arab security is an integrated whole to which Egypt is closely linked, noting that the Arab region has been experiencing exceptional circumstances since 2011, not just since October 2023. He added that ensuing events have proven the soundness of Egyptian policies based on balance, non-interference, respect for state sovereignty, and developmental efforts, El-Sisi said, warning against attempts by media outlets to sow discord among Arab peoples amid regional threats. Regarding the situation in Gaza, the president noted that Egypt has made immense efforts since 2007 to avoid escalation and stressed that the Palestinian people in the Strip would pay the price in any confrontation. El-Sisi affirmed that the current destruction in Gaza is unprecedented and that the Egyptian state continues efforts to stop the war and deliver humanitarian aid. He also highlighted Egypt's efforts to secure the release of captives and detainees, despite the distortion and misinformation campaigns that target the state's pivotal role. Furthermore, the president pointed out that the geopolitical circumstances, including the war in Gaza, have negatively impacted Suez Canal revenues, which declined by $7 billion. However, he added, the path of economic reform is ongoing and witnessing significant progress, as affirmed by international organisations. El-Sisi emphasised that when state institutions operate efficiently, with knowledge and expertise, economic achievements will be realised and development goals will be met. He also highlighted the importance of scientific progress and technological advances, including social media platforms, which he described as not inherently bad but whose impact depends on how these advances are employed. In contrast, El-Sisi indicated that if used correctly, social media platforms can be a helpful tool. Still, he maintained that as things stand, social media has been used to sow discord, spread rumours, and undermine morale among Egyptians, who he described as facing challenges with increasing awareness. Domestically, Egypt, the president continued, is stable thanks to the state's policy of transparency and credibility, which has proven effective over the past decade. Moreover, El-Sisi noted that though Egypt has faced significant security challenges for over a decade, the state has successfully overcome them and continues to make tangible progress despite the difficult regional situation. During the visit, he expressed his profound appreciation for the Academy's leadership, faculty, and students. The president also noted that the Academy is not merely an institution for building character, but also prepares men and women for facing the challenges that beset various state institutions in the modern world. In addition, El-Sisi commended the courses the Academy offers to civilian cadres, stressing the importance of its training and educational programmes in multiple disciplines.
