
Early admissions for MU, FY classes from mid-June
Mumbai: In a deviation from the usual schedule, the academic session for first-year degree colleges in Mumbai is likely to commence from mid-June. Until last year, the session for first-year students started by the first week of July or even later. Early HSC results in the state helped Mumbai University start the admission process for 3.28 lakh undergraduate seats in affiliated colleges from Thursday, at least three weeks in advance. The first merit list will be out on May 27.Around 3.08 lakh students cleared their HSC from the Mumbai division, indicating that there are plenty of seats for every student, even as many would opt for other professional courses too. With new courses being introduced under the National Education Policy 2020 with multiple combinations, colleges point out that the eligibility criteria should be re-evaluated.The early commencement of first-year degree college will enable colleges to prepare and implement the academic calendar effectively, said principal, NM College, Parag Ajgaonkar. He added that the first-year, second-year, and third-year classes can, for the first time, run parallelly as the latter two usually commence from mid-June. He said this would also ensure proper planning in succeeding years and will be helpful for students seeking PG admission in India or abroad. Madhav Rajwade, principal, Sathaye College, said that everyone is talking about starting early and finishing academic sessions on time, and this would be a positive step in that direction.The state govt is planning to have a uniform academic calendar for all state universities in the coming years, and the early announcement of results and early commencement session across universities could be the way forward, said a university official.A principal, on condition of anonymity, said that many new courses are being offered to students in different combinations under autonomy, empowered autonomy, and NEP guidelines, and therefore there is a need to re-evaluate the eligibility criteria.

Jagran Lakecity University Organises Dual Faculty Development Programs to Enhance Academic Excellence and Innovation
NewsVoir Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 11: Jagran Lakecity University (JLU), in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities (AIU) established an Academic and Administrative Development Centre (AADC) in May 2025. Two intensive Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) were conducted recently at the Centre aimed at improving the academic ecosystem of the state and equipping educators for future-forward teaching and research. Key objectives of this FDP included understanding the meaning, need, and relevance of OBE in the form of Assurance of Learning (AoL), specifying and designing learning outcomes for each student studying in the university. Outcome of every course offered in the university was aligned with the learning outcomes of the respective programs and ultimately the vision and mission of JLU. Conducted through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, this FDP aimed to drive academic excellence by fostering reflective teaching practices, effective evaluation and assessments leading to measurable learning outcomes. Parallelly, another futuristic FDP was organised from 26th May to 30th May 2025, focusing on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Teaching, Learning & Research. Open to all faculty and research staff in JLU as well as other universities in the region, this program explored the integration of AI tools and concepts in higher education. The sessions covered a broad spectrum of topics including What Every Educator Should Know About AI, AI Tools to Enhance Teaching-Learning, The Art of Prompting, Creating Effective Presentations for Teaching and Learning using AI and AI in Academic Research and Innovation. Reflecting on these FDPs, Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Nilanjan Chattopadhyay said, " At Jagran Lakecity University, we believe that empowered educators are the foundation of transformative learning. Schools in DK expect a rise admissions to Class 1
Mangaluru: Schools in the district expect an increase in admissions to Class 1 this academic year due to the relaxation of the minimum age limit — from six years to 5 years and 5 months. According to officials, this will be the last academic year for such an exemption to be granted. The state has announced that it will adhere to the Right to Education (RTE) and National Education Policy (NEP), which will allow only those who have completed age six as of June 1 from next year. Govinda Madivala, DDPI, Dakshina Kannada, is hopeful that they expect to see an increase of an additional 500 to 600 admissions to Class 1. "These additional admissions we expect are more than targeted for the current academic year. Last year, 30,860 students joined Class 1 in DK district," said Madivala, adding that higher primary schools also see an additional 2,000 students' admissions every year, especially from class 5 or 6, as students from other districts join here.
