So I'm gonna say this is a make or break season for Mike Tomlin.

Do I think he's about to get fired this uh this next offseason?
Not necessarily, but, like, enough of this already.
Just like lackluster, double digit one and done playoff losses.
Like that's the standard in Pittsburgh at this point.
If, if they can squeak into the playoffs, if they can squeak into the playoffs, you know, on the back of like a team that nobody really believes in.
And I'm not saying this is like all Tomlin's fault.
In fact, I think we would all agree that he certainly coaches around some of the holes on this roster, but I think he doesn't get enough flack for the, the holes on the roster.

Like the guy has a lot of power.
Within the building.
He has been there forever.
I don't love the way this roster looks on paper and especially when you look at the defense, like 4 of their most important players are probably Cam Hayward, Darius Slay, who was their only real consequential addition on that side of the ball, TJ Watt and Minka Fitzpatrick.
36-year-old Cam Hayward in his 15th season.
Darius Lee is 34, he's in his 13th season.
TJ Watt is 30, he's in his 9th season, and Mina Fitzpatrick is 28 and he's in his 8th season.
Like these guys are all not, not necessarily.
Like, again, they're about, they've, they're coming off good years, or at least Hayward's coming off a great year, but you just never know with guys at this point in their career and like there were rumblings that people weren't totally happy with Mina Fitzpatrick, or maybe some of the freelancing.

TJ Watt went quiet towards the end of last year.
Again, a 34 year old starting corner across from the only good corner that you've had for the last few years and, and Joey Porter Junior.
That's a little bit of a tenuous thing.
So I just see a lot of ways where this could go wrong for Pittsburgh this year.
And at some point, Especially if this is, you know, Mason Rudolph and Kirk Cousins and whatever is left of Aaron Rodgers.
I just see a lot of ways that this could go wrong, and I think at some point, if this is a, hey, a maybe a 6-win team or something like that, and which by the way, I think this roster could be a 6-win team that does not look that good, then at some point we've got to like ask questions about the whole operation here and just enough of kind of chasing our tail in the same old thing over and over again.

Charlie Batch Happy Steelers' Will Howard Learning From Bench

Charlie Batch Happy Steelers' Will Howard Learning From Bench originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch knows a thing or two about backing up a Canton-bound quarterback. He spent nine years backing up Steelers icon Ben Roethlisberger and ultimately watched him win a Super Bowl. Advertisement As such, he has a perspective that sixth-round quarterback Will Howard could use after Thursday's news. Pittsburgh finally ended its quarterback drama by signing veteran Aaron Rodgers on a one-year deal that is as much about redemption as it is saying goodbye. With a playoff-ready roster and an esteemed head coach, the organization has the talent to give Rodgers one more shot at playoff contention. On 'Up & Adams,' the former Steelers quarterback was happy to see Howard sitting, primarily because it eliminates the pressure of expectations. Batch spoke to Kay Adams before Rodgers put pen to paper. "They want to make sure he is learning from the pocket first and then from there allow everything else to kind of materialize," Batch said. "There's not a lot of pressure on Will at this particular point, and that's the one thing that he has an advantage of. Because all he has to do is put his head in the playbook, go out there and get the job done, where everybody else is being talked about." Advertisement With Mason Rudolph atop the depth chart before the Rodgers signing, there was a real chance that Howard would see playing time in 2025. Pittsburgh has been able to churn out competent teams with bottom-barrel quarterbacking before, but thrusting Howard into a starting role with playoff expectations would be harsh. Now, Howard can comfortably embrace his role as the third quarterback while soaking up all he can from one of the game's smartest quarterbacks. Batch suggested that in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense, Howard is a promising fit, given his proclivity for helping in the run game. "We know the mindset of Arthur Smith," Batch said. "He wants to run the football, and sometimes the quarterback has to pull the ball down on some designed runs that you actually have to use your legs and get the job done. So those are things that are gonna play itself out, but that's kind of down the line." Advertisement The Steelers seem to be gearing up for a franchise quarterback in 2026. But with a year of experience and a season's worth of seasoning from Rodgers, Howard could find himself with the upper hand in a quarterback competition next season. On Friday morning, the United States Golf Association announced that tickets for the championship rounds of the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club next week are sold out. "The tremendous response from golf fans in Pittsburgh, across the country and around the world demonstrates the excitement about the U.S. Open coming back to Oakmont," said Jon Podany, USGA chief commercial officer. "We appreciate the loyalty of U.S. Open spectators and are confident that this year's championship, being played at one of our three anchor sites, will provide a very memorable experience for all attendees." With the championship rounds sold out, the USGA said that limited tickets remain for the practice rounds, and those can be purchased on their website. The U.S. Open returns to Oakmont on June 9-15, and it will be the ninth time the tournament will be played in Oakmont and the first since 2016 when Dustin Johnson won the tournament. U.S. Open returns to Pittsburgh amid much fanfare With 200,000 people expected to be in attendance near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for the week of the championship, the main focus of the event will be on the golf. However, the offerings provided by the USGA don't stop at the 18th hole. When it comes to concessions at the U.S. Open, there will be a number of food items with local flair including Caliente Pizza, bread from Mancini's Bakery and coffee from National Grind. A Steel City Hot Dog that's loaded with capicola, provolone cheese, vinegar slaw, potato sticks, and mustard will also be among the concession options. Hungry fans can grab an Oakmont shaved kielbasa sandwich, a nod to the historic club being one of the USGA's three anchor sites. The sandwich will be served at all U.S. Open venues in the future, along with a Pebble Beach chicken sandwich and a Pinehurst barbecue pork sandwich. For those looking to get some swag, the merchandise pavilion is open and consists of 35,000 square feet of space with half a million items up for grabs. That includes hats, shirts, towels, ball markers, umbrellas, and much more. "We have 1,200 volunteers who are just working on merchandise," Mary Lopuszynski, the USGA's Managing Director of Merchandise and Licensing, said.
