Colorado wildfires: Rio Blanco County, Grand County updates
Some of the wildfires across the state continue to burn, while others are causing pre-evacuation notices to be lifted.

Rio Blanco County: Lee and Elk Fires
Two large wildfires in Rio Blanco County continue to burn more than 70,000 acres.
The Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management reported that as of 7 a.m. on Friday, the Lee and Elk Fires both had a 0% containment. The Lee Fire was reported to have burned 60,976 acres and the Elk Fire had burned 14,518 acres.
North Metro Fire Rescue posted to X on Friday, saying that four wildland team members on Monday were sent out to work on the Elk Fire and have been working overnight with Brighton Fire Rescue.
'Structure protection continues to be the main focus as well as finding advantageous spots to stop forward progress of the fire,' said NMFR.
Gov. Jared Polis on Wednesday night authorized the mobilization of the Colorado National Guard to aid with fire response for the Rio Blanco County fires. This announcement came after evacuations and pre-evacuations were issued in certain areas in the county throughout the week, which can be found on Rio Blanco County's website.
On Sunday, Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency for the Elk Fire, which was later updated on Tuesday to include the Lee Fire.
Grand County: Windy Gap Fire
On Friday, around 11 a.m. Grand County said that the pre-evacuation notices have been lifted, after being issued on Wednesday for Zones G41 and G48 due to the Windy Gap Fire.
Grand County said this decision was made after the county's sheriff and the Windy Gap Fire Incident Commander evaluated 'the current and projected fire behavior' and decided to lift the previously issued pre-evacuation notices.
On Thursday, the county posted to Facebook, saying that the Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution declaring a Local Disaster Emergency in Grand County due to the wildfire.
'This is an important first step in the emergency management process, and puts Grand County in a better position for recovering funds related to the Windy Gap Fire and its impacts,' said the county.
As of 3 p.m. on Thursday, the Grand County Sheriff's Office reported that the Windy Gap Fire was approximately 30 acres and 40% contained.

DENVER (KDVR) — The Elk Fire in Rio Blanco County that has already prompted an emergency declaration from Gov. Jared Polis ballooned in size Sunday evening to thousands of acres and destroyed two homes, according to the sheriff's office. Rio Blanco officials first got word of the fire Saturday about 11 miles east of Meeker, which has since grown in size to at least 2,000 acres burned as of Sunday night at 9 p.m., the Rio Blanco County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post. Polis declares emergency for Elk Fire, evacuations ordered The sheriff's office said fire activity increased significantly Sunday afternoon and jumped across County Road 8 and prompted immediate evacuations. Several spot fires also jumped the White River in the area and are a 'top priority,' with helicopters engaged on those spots. 'With the aggressive fire behavior unfortunately, two houses and one outbuilding have been lost, and structures remain threatened,' the sheriff's office said. It is one of several fires burning in the county, according to the sheriff's office, and is burning on private land, state land and Bureau of Land Management land. An evacuation order is now in effect for County Road 8 from Mile Marker 11 to Mile Marker 16, impacting both sides of the road. An evacuation location is set up at 200 Main Street in Meeker. No. 1: Cameron Peak Fire: 208,913 acres The largest wildfire in Colorado history, the Cameron Peak Fire, burned 208,913 acres in the wilderness west of Fort Collins for 112 days in 2020. New fire sparks in Rio Blanco County: Here's the status of all three fires
DENVER (KDVR) — Another fire has sparked in Rio Blanco County, where over 130,000 acres of land have burned in recent weeks. There are multiple fires currently burning on the Western Slope, for which Gov. Jared Polis has declared disaster emergencies. Lee Fire now among largest in Colorado history: How it compares In Rio Blanco County, the Lee Fire has grown over 116,000 acres and is now the 5th largest in Colorado history, and the Elk Fire has burned nearly 15,000 acres. On Monday, the Crosho Fire sparked near Crosho Lake in Rio Blanco County, and it has grown to over 100 acres overnight and crept into Routt County. Crosho Fire: Over 100 acres The Town of Oak Creek said in a post on Facebook Tuesday that dispatchers in Routt County received several calls about a fire near South Routt. The fire was confirmed on Forest Service land near Crosho Lake in Rio Blanco County, and the Forest Service has taken command of the incident. The Crosho Fire grew to over 100 acres overnight, the town said, and there are currently 110 firefighters on the scene from multiple agencies, including Yampa Oak Creek and Steamboat Springs Fire Districts, along with federal fire crews. Air support is also expected soon. Colorado Wildfire Map The town said the fire reached private property in Routt County, but there are no structures immediately threatened and local crews are prepared to protect structures that may become threatened. Coloradans urged to prepare for fire risks Elk Fire: 14,549 acres The Elk Fire is believed to have sparked due to lightning on Saturday, Aug. 2, and has since burned 14,549 acres and is 30% contained. The size of the fire has decreased from previous reported numbers due to more accurate mapping, authorities said. Located about 11 miles east of Meeker, the fire burned down two homes in the first few days, as well as one outbuilding. On Monday, the fire did not grow much thanks to favorable winds and strong firefighting efforts. Tuesday, crews will continue to mop up hotspots and reinforce containment lines off of County Road 8 and in the Beaver Creek area. Containment is expected to increase. Lee Fire: 116,859 acres The Lee Fire, which is now the 5th largest in Colorado history, has burned 116,859 acres and is 6% contained as of Tuesday morning. Containment has dropped due to an increase in acreage. It is also believed to have been sparked due to lightning over the first weekend of August and it has grown rapidly in recent days. It has grown by about 10,000 acres since Sunday and by about 94,000 acres since last Wednesday. Fire crews faced 'very active behavior' on Monday with wind pushing the flames. On Tuesday, minimal fire behavior is expected in the northern areas, and the southern areas of the fire are expected to be most active with continued extreme fire behavior and a high chance for it to spread. How to prepare for a wildfire, extreme fire danger Crews will work on containment lines south of County Road 5 and protect values at risk in the area. Firefighters are also working to build indirect lines to keep the fire from spreading east of Highway 13. Between the Lee and Elk fires, there are 1,234 crew members working to put the flames out.
