All the Spooky Details We Loved at Epic Universe's Darkmoor
Universal Studios Orlando's Epic Universe is now open, and its horrors are loose in the Dark Universe.
To Universal Monsters fans, the Dark Universe is everything we've wanted to see come alive in a horror theme park dedicated to the terrifying and strange. Without the films, there would be no Universal Pictures or the first Universal Studios theme park, for that matter.
Epic Universe's Darkmoor is a monument to the monster legacy at the studio, and it's befitting of all the creature comforts in store for fans. The moment you enter, Danny Elfman's score for the land echoes through the nooks and crannies of the cobblestone streets and bounces off the brick buildings. You'll see little homages to various characters, such as Dr. Jekyll's Apothecary, which we wish was a real shop. There's a number of walk around characters that share the lore of the monsters, and you might run into the bandaged form of the Invisible Man, or even the Bride and the Monster. On the attractions, the first monsters of the franchise including the Hunchback of Notre Dame (look up when the bell tolls) and the Phantom of the Opera make their presence felt.
The haunting worlds of original films are canon but do get expanded on in intriguing ways. When you meet the Monster you find out he's just the Bride's friend, and the experiment from the James Whale movie she was made for lies dead in the queue of Monsters Unchained.
To really get the sense of what those stories would have evolved to in the modern day, you actively have to pay attention to all the small details. When you get there, Ygor asks you to volunteer to help Victoria Frankenstein bring glory back to the family name on her quest to control Dracula (yeah, good luck sis). And even the vampire familiars at Das Stakehaus echo the sentiment that there's no tying that undead man down.
Over at the Burning Blade Tavern ,you get more about the villagers' sentiments about who the real monsters are in Darkmoor: the creations or the humans who seek to overpower them? I wish I'd been able to spend more time in the area to talk to every performer to get as much lore out of them as possible because it's dense. And we only got a few hours there to gather as much spooky intel as possible and try the food and do the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience. I am already itching to go back!
To an extent, for the casual theme park fan, it might be a bit much to really wrap their heads around when they ride Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment. You do get to see that Victoria has continued the work of her family name in many ways including making her own version of the monster. But there's also video clips that play of her and Ygor capturing the Creature From the Black Lagoon and the Wolf Man—there might be more clips but we went through the queue rather quickly. I imagine that she thinks that by making some sort of Monster Squad she'll live up to her family reputation but might be in over her head. We can't wait to see how the world continues to grow as more people visit Darkmoor.

Lionsgate Head Says AI Can Recut Films for Kids, Create Anime Adaptations, and Save Millions... In Just Hours — GeekTyrant
In a recent interview with New York Magazine, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns opened up on how the studio is starting to experiment with AI, and if what he's saying holds up, it's a glimpse into a very weird (and very real) future for filmmaking. Last September, Lionsgate inked a deal with AI startup Runway, the same company behind several high-profile generative video tools, making it the first major Hollywood studio to partner directly with the tech firm. Burns says the goal is simple: 'make movies and television shows we'd otherwise never make.' 'We can't make it for $100 million, but we'd make it for $50 million because of AI,' he explained. 'We're banging around the art of the possible. Let's try some stuff, see what sticks.' And what 'sticks' could mean anything, from lowering costs to transforming entire franchises for entirely different audiences. Some of the more interesting examples is taking a gritty, R-rated film and repackaging it for kids and turning a film into an anime. 'Now we can say, 'Do it in anime, make it PG-13.' Three hours later, I'll have the movie,' Burns said. 'But I can do that, and now I can resell it.' A full reworking of a major film, adjusted in tone, format, and rating, done in mere hours with AI. It's not just science fiction anymore, this is now a business model. Lionsgate, which holds the rights to massive properties like John Wick and The Hunger Games , now has the option to rework its library for different audiences with just a few tweaks. New York Magazine noted, 'With a library as large as Lionsgate's, they could use Runway to repackage and resell what the studio already owned.' Burns even cited a more grounded, behind-the-scenes example of how this could impact production: 'We have this movie we're trying to decide whether to green-light. There's a 10-second shot — 10,000 soldiers on a hillside with a bunch of horses in a snowstorm.' In the past, shooting that scene would cost millions and take days. Now? AI could generate the shot for about $10,000. Of course, Burns did clarify that AI doesn't erase everyone from the picture. 'I still have to pay the actors and all other rights participants,' he said. 'But I can do that.' So while the creative implications are still a giant question mark, the business play is clea… faster production, lower costs, and endless remix potential. What comes next? Michael Rosenbaum Confirms Secret Role in James Gunn's SUPERMAN — GeekTyrant
Michael Rosenbaum the actor who played the fan-favorite Lex Luthor from Smallville just revealed he is part of James Gunn's upcoming Superman reboot… but maybe not in the way people expected. During a panel at Fan Expo Dallas, Rosenbaum said that he's recorded a 'fun' little voice role for the film. 'James asked me to do something fun, so I have a couple of lines that I voice,' he said. 'There was nothing in this one, but he's the head of DC, so I think he can stick me in a movie or something.' So, no major character reveal, but there is a mysterious voice role, which could likely one of the robot companions at Superman's Fortress of Solitude, where Gunn has already confirmed Alan Tudyk and Michael Rooker are lending their talents. Rosenbaum, of course, is no stranger to voice work. He famously brought Wally West's Flash to life in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited , and has stayed close with Gunn over the years, appearing as crystal-skinned Martinex in all three Guardians of the Galaxy films. With Gunn now running the show at DC, It makes sense that he'd want to bring Rosenbuam along for the ride in anyway that he can. This character he plays in Superman may not be a big role, but maybe Gunn's got something more exciting planned for the actor somewhere down the line. When asked why he wasn't doing more in Superman, Rosenberg said: 'Why am I not in Superman? Why am I not in the movie somehow?' he recalled asking Gunn. But he's not bitter about it, just realistic. 'Whatever comes to me, I look at it, and if it's not too silly, or if it makes me laugh, or I think I could do a really good job, or I think I can make an impression, I'll do it.' Superman hits theaters on Rosenbaum's birthday, July 11, 2025, a fitting gift from one of his best friend. 'He's one of my best friends, and he's very loyal. I think he's got a great vision,' Rosenbaum said of Gunn. Even Smallville's Clark Kent, Tom Welling, chimed in with some love: 'Once (Michael) gets involved, it's better.'
