Rahmah MADANI Sales: Effective approach to ease living cost of the people
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (picture) said the initiative continues to receive strong public support, especially with its expansion to all regions across the country, including suburban and rural areas.
He said that apart from providing immediate relief, the programme also offers a valuable platform for the ministry to engage directly with the community to obtain feedback, including suggestions for improvements and additional stock-keeping units (SKUs) that people would like to see.
'The community has acknowledged that this programme truly reaches the grassroots and fulfils their daily needs,' he said.
'As we know, the allocation for the Rahmah Sales Programme has also been increased. So we hope that the 2026 Budget will further expand the programme's reach so that more people can benefit from it,' he told Bernama.
He said this when visiting the MADANI Rahmah Sales and Kenduri Rakyat programmes in Kampung Pachitan, held in conjunction with the MADANI Ukhwah Programme and the MADANI Government Members of Parliament Retreat here.
In addition to Kampung Pachitan, Armizan said the programme was also implemented at the Petanque Field, Batu 1, Port Dickson, offering 42 and 50 stock keeping units (SKUs) at discounted prices, respectively.
He noted that efforts to gather public feedback were further strengthened by the involvement of MADANI Government MPs in the two-day retreat by engaging directly with residents to better understand the realities of their daily lives.
'This initiative goes beyond simply selling affordable goods…it reflects how policy is shaped around the real needs of the people. That's why the active participation of MPs is crucial in representing the voices of their communities,' he said.
Armizan also highlighted that the MADANI Rahmah Sales programme includes the involvement of the retail sector as a strategic partner, such as supermarkets and grocery stores, to ensure its benefits are expanded and felt more widely across the population. — BERNAMA

13MP: Govt to expand preschool facilities to support compulsory early education
KUALA LUMPUR: More preschool facilities operated by the Education Ministry will be established nationwide to support the government's push for compulsory early childhood education. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the move to mandate preschool education starting at the age of five is intended to provide children with a holistic and comprehensive foundational learning experience. "To ensure the success of this effort, more Education Ministry-run preschool facilities will be opened nationwide," she said in a statement today. She said the recently passed Education (Amendment) Bill 2025, which mandates secondary education, marked a major milestone in the government's education reform efforts. "The Madani government is focused on achieving universal enrolment at both the preschool and secondary education levels. "As such, under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the ministry will focus entirely on preschool to secondary education to ensure a more focused and effective education system and regulatory framework." Fadhlina said that special emphasis would also be placed on integrated efforts to strengthen proficiency in Bahasa Melayu and English, reinforce the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as digital literacy, including artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Meanwhile, she said a total of RM67 billion has been allocated for the education sector, including the construction of new schools and the improvement and upgrading of educational infrastructure nationwide. In addition, she said the initiative to make school construction a requirement for new large-scale housing projects, along with the expansion of vertical school development, would also be implemented. Anwar, during the tabling yesterday, said the move was aimed at addressing student overcrowding and the shortage of suitable land for new school sites. As for teachers, Fadhlina said the Madani government would focus on improving the recruitment of new teachers, preparatory training programmes, and the enhancement of in-service teachers' competencies and professionalism. She said the 13MP was a manifestation of the Madani government's commitment and efforts to reform the national education system through a bold new approach for the benefit of Malaysian children. Yesterday, during the tabling of the 13MP, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government would make preschool education compulsory from the age of five to enhance educational outcomes.

Johor KPDN urges public to report sharp hikes in egg prices
JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has urged the public to report any traders who drastically increase egg prices following the start of the subsidy restructuring today. Its director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said monitoring efforts at business premises across the district would be further intensified to prevent profiteering. She said the operation involves 200 enforcement officers and 87 price monitoring officers, all working to ensure compliance. 'I would like to remind traders not to arbitrarily raise prices, as enforcement officers and price monitors will carry out thorough investigations. 'Therefore, I urge Johor consumers to continue lodging complaints so that firm action can be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011,' she said when contacted by Bernama today. Yesterday, the government announced the restructuring of chicken egg subsidies, to take effect today (Aug 1), as part of a phased and targeted subsidy approach aimed at greater sustainability and higher impact. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), in a statement, said that the industry had agreed to introduce Special Grade Eggs, which will be offered at more affordable prices to consumers. On July 22, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu reportedly said that the reduction in egg subsidies - from 10 sen to 5 sen per egg, effective May 1 - was expected to save the government RM135 million over a three-month period, ahead of the complete removal of price controls on eggs, which takes effect today. - Bernama

Association: Everyone should report RON95 misuse, not just post on social media

KUCHING (Aug 1): The Sarawak Petroleum Product Agents' Association (SPPAA) has called for shared responsibility among fuel retailers, enforcement authorities, and the public to safeguard subsidised RON95 petrol and prevent misuse, particularly by foreign-registered vehicles. President Laura Hartini Maurice said SPPAA members have taken proactive steps to ensure compliance with regulations, including the use of visible pump stickers, warning signage, and trained staff at stations across the state. 'We understand public concern about ensuring subsidies reach the right people. Our members are already committed to compliance and work closely with authorities to uphold regulations,' she said in a press release. However, she pointed out that some viral social media posts showing alleged fuel subsidy violations may lack full context and could give the wrong impression that station operators or enforcement officers are not taking action. While acknowledging social media's role in raising awareness, she urged the public to alert station staff or contact the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) when witnessing suspected violations. 'Simply filming and posting videos online often does not resolve the situation and may create unnecessary public misunderstanding,' she said. SPPAA noted that self-service and cashless payment settings pose practical challenges, as foreign vehicles can refuel without interacting with station staff. Nevertheless, its member stations remain committed to upholding compliance measures and welcome enforcement support from authorities. 'Everyone can do their part – retailers by implementing compliance, authorities by enforcing fairly, and the public by reporting responsibly rather than just filming. Together we can protect fuel subsidies, maintain public confidence, and ensure fair treatment for all,' she added. SPPAA also reaffirmed its full support for KPDN's enforcement efforts and called for continued collaboration between retailers, authorities, and the public to maintain transparency and public trust. Last month, KPDN launched an investigation following a viral complaint about a foreign-registered vehicle purchasing subsidised RON95 petrol at a petrol station here. KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin said the case is being investigated under Regulation 12A of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 as well as the Control of Supplies Act 1961, in relation to the directive by the Controller of Supplies prohibiting the sale of RON95 petrol to foreign-registered vehicles.
