Corvette, Mustang Street Racing Ends In Serious Crash
A C6 Corvette and S550 Mustang engaged in a street race on a California highway, ending in a serious accident. Fortunately, no innocent bystanders were harmed by the foolishness of the two drivers, but one of them ended up being thrown from his car and the other was thrown into the backseat of a police cruiser. The sports and pony cars were racing each other on northbound SR-99 in Modesto on the afternoon of August 10, says California Highway Patrol, weaving through slower traffic as they tried proving which was faster. Both were going over 100 mph.
Behind the wheel of the C6 Corvette was 26-year-old Tyler Azadzoi, who veered onto the dirt and gravel median, to avoid slower cars. That move caused him to lose control of the sports car, which veered right across all the southbound lanes, over the shoulder, and into a chain link fence.
That collision caused the 'Vette to roll multiple times onto another road. Because Azadzoi wasn't wearing a seatbelt, he was thrown from the vehicle. He suffered major injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
But his 28-year-old passenger who was belted in escaped with minor injuries, reports The Modesto Bee.
Even better, the driver of the Mustang, 22-year-old Raul Torres Jr., reportedly stopped briefly where the Corvette crashed, then he took off. Torres fled to his house in Manteca, parking the Mustang in a garage.
Because others got the license plate number of the Mustang, CHP showed up at Torres' address, arresting him and impounding his car. He's now facing felony charges for reckless driving proximately causing bodily injury and speed contest causing injury, as well as several lesser criminal charges.
The big takeaway here is street racing is dumb. It's even dumber when you don't wear your seatbelt.

Sandra Bullock says she was told she couldn't ‘like' Jennifer Aniston: ‘No one wanted the ladies to be friends'
Sandra Bullock said she and Friends star Jennifer Aniston started out in Hollywood at a time when 'no one wanted the ladies to be friends' and female actors were meant to see each other only as competition. Speaking to Vanity Fair for a story on Aniston, Bullock reflected on their relationship and how it began. They first met about 15 years ago at a mutual friend's wedding, immediately struck up a friendship and 'spent the night trading shots and notes'. 'We're just like, 'Oh my God, we need to meet and cut loose,'' Bullock recalled. 'And we did.' They debuted in Hollywood around the same time. After playing smaller roles in films and TV series in the late 1980s, both landed breakthrough parts in 1994 – Bullock in Speed and Aniston in Friends. 'We were from that time in the business where no one wanted the ladies to be friends – it was about pitting everyone against each other,' Bullock recalled. 'We were told we weren't supposed to do that – meaning like and respect and honour each other.' The actors now related to each other not just as women working in the same industry, but over shared frightening experiences. In June 2014, a stalker named Joshua Corbett broke into Bullock's Los Angeles home with a love letter, leading the Oscar-winner to hide inside a cupboard to call 911. This year, a man named Jimmy Wayne Carwyle was arrested after he drove his car through the gate of Aniston's Bel Air home. He had allegedly been harassing her with voicemail, email, and social media messages for two years. 'People are out of their minds. Who wants to put that energy out there,' Aniston said, adding that her security team was 'not glamorous in any way. It's a necessity'. 'It makes me think, 'Do I really have to go outside and navigate the world?'' Bullock said. 'There's the cases where they got into the house, the cases where they're outside the house, the cases where you're on a film set and they figured out where you are, and the cases that no one hears about. 'It's ongoing. It's not a one-off. And it does create a mindset where your home also unfortunately becomes your fortress.' The two actors now work together to make sure they go out of their houses. 'There's a motivation of going, 'Okay, we need to go somewhere. Where are we going?'' said Bullock. Aniston revealed in the same story that she was also close friends with Gwyneth Paltrow. 'Ironically, I went to her and Brad's engagement party,' Aniston told the magazine. Paltrow was engaged to Brad Pitt in the 1990s and Aniston was married to him for five years until their divorce in 2005. She was asked if she ever talked about Pitt with Paltrow. 'Oh, of course,' she responded. 'How can we not? We're girls.'

Mountain lion killed by authorities after attack on 11-year-old girl in California
A mountain lion injured an 11-year-old girl in Malibu over the weekend, California officials said. The cat approached the girl from behind on Sunday evening while she was near a chicken coop on her family's property, according to the California Department of Fish Wildlife. The cougar then bit the child on the arm, leg, and lower back, officials said. She was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries, The Associated Press reports. The Lost Hills Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told KTLA it responded to a call about the attack shortly after 5.30 p.m on Sunday. Family members, including the girl's mother and sibling, heard the child screaming and ran over. 'That's when the mountain lion proceeded to chase the mother and the sibling,' an agency spokesperson told The Los Angeles Times. Another family member approached the creature with a stun gun, and the sound of the weapon reportedly scared the cat away. Officials later found a mountain lion in the area and euthanized it. DNA samples have been taken to confirm if the cougar was the same one that attacked the child. Dangerous encounters with mountain lions are extremely rare, according to state data. There have been 27 confirmed attacks on humans since 1986, most of them nonfatal, according to an AP analysis. In March of 2024, a mountain lion attacked two brothers near Georgetown in Northern California, killing one of them. The encounter was the first fatal cougar attack in two decades in the state. That same year, at Malibu Creek State park, a five-year-old boy was pulled from the jaws of a mountain lion, after the cat tried to drag the boy away from a family picnic. 'Somebody screamed the baby's name, and his dad started running,' one of the boy's aunts told local news at the time. 'The father grabbed the mountain lion with his hands, and he just fought, Then the mountain lion let go.'
