Gyökeres, Loyalty, and Legacy – Hendrick Lays Out Liverpool's Next Move
Hendrick: 'Let's reward their loyalty by putting the best possible team on the pitch'
Liverpool's New Era Begins with Clear Intent
In a stirring episode of The Old Skool Podcast, Gags Tandon and Dave Hendrick reconvened to dissect Liverpool's Premier League triumph and speculate on the next chapter under Arne Slot. With the echoes of celebration still hanging in the air, the conversation quickly turned toward legacy, ambition, and a ruthless focus on silverware.

Dave Hendrick pulled no punches. 'Let's go and maximise the final years of Mo, Virgil, and Ali. Let's put as much as we can into making sure that when they leave this club, there's no more medals left on the table.'
Forward Thinking: The Case for Victor Gyökeres
Hendrick made an impassioned argument for investing in proven attacking talent: 'In the number nine position, go and get a win-now player.' He spotlighted Victor Gyökeres of Sporting CP, whose stock continues to rise after a prolific season.
'He's just in such a groove right now,' said Hendrick. 'He doesn't get hurt… 10 goals in his last seven caps. He's transferring that performance level to international level, too.'

Importantly, Hendrick addressed concerns around age: 'Even if you get two or three great years out of him, you can sell him to Saudi with two years left in his deal.' The emphasis was clear—Liverpool must act decisively in the transfer market if they are to capitalise on this era of elite players.
Loyalty in Red: Rewarding True Servants of the Club
Hendrick drew a stark contrast between the current squad and Liverpool's past. 'If you look at the great players we've had since the '90s… all of them pushed to leave. All of them agitated to leave.'
But then, his voice softened in reverence: 'The only three truly great players we've had in the last 35 years that have never agitated to leave… Ali, Virgil, Mo.' His call to action? 'Let's reward them for it. Let's reward their loyalty by putting the best possible team on the pitch.'

Tandon echoed the sentiment, adding, 'They've never wanted to leave. They want to be here. And also, they're still in their prime. Like Mo just had his best numbers ever.'

Arsenal, City, and the Shifting Landscape
Looking beyond Anfield, the pair debated the future of title rivals. 'There's no evidence Arsenal can win anything,' said Hendrick bluntly. 'If you look at this Arsenal group… who has won anything other than Kai Havertz and the lads who won things sitting on the bench at City?'
On Manchester City, there was cautious optimism. 'Pep is not going to be at City for much longer,' Hendrick predicted. 'Maybe two more seasons, more likely just one more.'
A Moment to Savour
As the podcast drew to a close, Gags and Dave turned reflective, paying homage to the journey they've taken with Anfield Index since 2011. 'Honestly, this Anfield Index is a blessing,' said Gags. 'It's amazing when you get to meet these people… it'll blow your socks off, mate.'
The podcast, already soaked in emotion and celebration, ended with a vision. 'When we retain, we party like it's 2026,' laughed Gags. Hendrick replied with understated ambition: 'I just see Premier League and Champions League doubles in our future.'

The clubs most LIKELY to sign Liverpool star who 'lacks intensity'
The clubs most LIKELY to sign Liverpool star who 'lacks intensity' Liverpool have a big decision to make over Harvey Elliott during this summer's transfer window. The playmaker only made two Premier League starts for the champions last season - both of which came after the title was wrapped up. Arne Slot simply did not trust the 22-year-old in the biggest moments and that treatment has led to a discussion over the England under-21 international's future. Advertisement Elliott is under contract until 2027 and there is little prospect of him signing a new deal with his minutes so restricted. There is believed to be Premier League interest from Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Wolves, but Elliott has so far issued no preference on his next move. Back in January it was also speculated that Borussia Dortmund and Brighton were interested in the out-of-favour creative midfielder. Sporting director Richard Hughes is believed to value Elliott at £40m to £50m - and he could be sacrificed this summer if the right bid materialises. Elliott 'lacks intensity' Now comes a report in Football Insider, which appears to seal Elliott's fate. Advertisement The player does not possess the right out-of-possession characteristics to hold down a place in Arne Slot's team, according to the report, with Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai far ahead of him in the pecking order. 'Liverpool's coaches are said to believe the 22-year-old lacks the intensity off the ball required to fit into their playing style on a regular basis and be a nailed-on starter,' the report reads. And, accordingly, a move to Serie A might be on the cards for the former Fulham man. © IMAGO Will Elliott move to Italy? 'Harvey Elliott is most likely to join a Serie A club if he leaves Liverpool this summer,' the report states. Advertisement 'Elliott's game would be better suited to Serie A, and there is believed to be early interest from two leading Italian clubs. 'Clubs in Germany's Bundesliga are also understood to be monitoring the left-footed star's situation.' The names of the clubs involved are not disclosed in the report.

Erik ten Hag wants $116M Man Utd outcast to replace Liverpool target Florian Wirtz
Bayer Leverkusen is named as a "club to watch" with regards to the future of Manchester United flop Antony, as the Bundesliga club searches for a replacement for Florian Wirtz. Wirtz is set to leave Leverkusen after deciding that he wants to join Arne Slot's Liverpool, and his departure will leave big boots to fill in Erik ten Hag's squad. Naturally, Ten Hag is being linked with a move for Antony — a player he was roundly mocked for taking to United — with the Daily Mail mentioning Leverkusen as a club who could afford to sign him permanently. Advertisement Antony joined United in 2022 but the Brazilian's acquisition quickly became a stick to beat Ten Hag with, as it soon became apparent that he was not worth the colossal fee that the Red Devils signed him for. READ MORE: Liverpool set to lose long-term staff member joining Pep Ljinders at Man City READ MORE: Bayer Leverkusen star desperate to avoid nightmare Florian Wirtz transfer scenario Ruben Amorim allowed Antony to leave on loan during the January transfer window, and he demonstrated his quality during a fruitful spell at Real Betis, scoring some key goals as the La Liga club made it through to the Conference League final. Advertisement Despite enjoying a career revival in Spain, he is not expected to return there on a permanent basis as Betis cannot afford to meet United's asking price for the Brazilian. Leverkusen will have plenty of money to spend this summer, with Liverpool alone expected to add at least $200 million to the German club's kitty. Liverpool has already signed Jeremie Frimpong for $39 million, while the Reds could also end up paying as much as $171 million for Wirtz. Liverpool is continuing to work on a deal for Wirtz -Credit:The Reds are continuing to work on a deal to sign the Germany international, after it emerged last month that he had opted to join the Anfield club ahead of Bayern Munich. Advertisement Liverpool will have to smash its transfer record to get a deal over the line, with Virgil van Dijk the club's current record signing after his $101 million move from Southampton in January 2018. Darwin Nunez's transfer fee would have surpassed the Van Dijk fee had all of the add-on clauses in his deal been met, but they have not, and he is expected to leave the club this summer, amid interest from Atletico Madrid as well as clubs in the Saudi Pro League. The mooted $171 million fee would not only make him Liverpool's record signing — it would also make him one of the most expensive signings in soccer history: only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have moved clubs for bigger transfer fees in the past.

Liverpool open talks with AC Milan over winger
Chiesa linked with quick return to Italy Transfer talk is also increasing around Luis Diaz, with Barcelona's attempts to talk to the Reds rejected but a sale not ruled out. And Federico Chiesa could be set for a quick return to Serie A. The Italian, 27, only arrived at Anfield in September but has scarcely made an impact. Advertisement Although he scored a goal in the EFL Cup final, he made only six Premier League appearances - for a total of just over 100 top-flight minutes. It was speculated that the Italy international would be let go back in January with several Serie A clubs interested. He stayed put and his contract - which extends to 2028 - is reportedly too rich for the majority of interested sides. AC Milan in talks over Chiesa But it looks like AC Milan are back at the table. According to a new report in Italy, the Rossoneri have opened talks with Liverpool over a loan deal for Chiesa. The Euro 2020 winner is said to be interested in the move but one complicating factor is Liverpool's reluctance to discuss a loan bid. Advertisement Chiesa is available this summer but it looks like the club are only interested in a permanent deal for a winger they signed for £12.5m last summer.
