Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is said to get a big camera upgrade

India Today6 hours ago
Samsung is said to be working on a big camera upgrade for its next flagship phone, the Galaxy S26 Ultra. As per a new rumour coming from China, the phone could switch to a Sony-made 200-megapixel main camera sensor, which is larger than what the company currently uses. The Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with Samsung's own 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor, but the upcoming Sony sensor is said to be slightly bigger in size. A larger sensor can allow more light in, which usually means better photos, especially in low light. This would be Sony's first 200MP camera sensor, and Samsung may be planning to use it for the first time in the S26 Ultra. However, the same report also mentions that Samsung could delay this camera upgrade to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which may arrive in 2027. So it's not fully confirmed whether the S26 Ultra will get it or not.advertisementThe leak also shares other expected details about the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The phone will likely retain the same 6.9-inch display size, but with even thinner bezels this time, which could give users more screen in the same body size. The design may mostly stay the same, but there will be one noticeable change—Samsung might remove the large, raised camera rings from the back panel. These rings were part of the S25 Ultra's design, and not everyone was a fan of how they looked. The new design could be cleaner and more refined. The phone will still come with an IP68 rating, so it should remain water and dust resistant.
As for the S Pen, Samsung had reportedly tested the phone without a digitiser (the layer that helps with stylus input), but the results were not good. So, the company is expected to stick with the digitiser, which means the writing and drawing experience with the S Pen should remain smooth. On the performance side, the S26 Ultra is likely to run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Elite chip, which is expected to be built on TSMC's 3nm process. There were talks of Samsung using its own 2nm chip, but that plan has reportedly been dropped. Samsung may again get a special 'For Galaxy' version of the chip, which usually comes with some extra power. To manage heat, the phone could include a larger vapor chamber cooling system—possibly up to 1.2 times bigger than what the S25 Ultra had. This would help the phone stay cooler during gaming or heavy use and could also help improve battery life.Samsung is also said to be offering more RAM this time. All variants—whether it's 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB—are expected to ship with 16GB of RAM, which would make multitasking and overall performance smoother. If Samsung sticks to its usual schedule, the Galaxy S26 Ultra should launch in January next year. As none of this is official yet, people are advised to take the details with a pinch of salt.- Ends

All eyes are on Google after Samsung, Vivo unveils premium foldable devices

With Samsung and Vivo unveiling their latest foldables, Google could be next in line for a major hardware launch. The company is expected to host its Made by Google 2025 event next month, where it will likely introduce the Pixel 10 series, including the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and updated wearables like the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a. Made By Google 2025: Expected schedule Last year, Google moved its Pixel launch timeline from October to August, revealing devices earlier than usual. A similar schedule is expected this year, with the Made by Google 2025 event likely to take place in the second week of August. For context, the 2024 edition was held on August 13. According to 9to5Google, the Pixel 10 lineup could be unveiled by mid-August, with deliveries potentially starting around August 20. Made By Google 2025: Pixel 10 series, Pixel Watch 4, Buds 2a expected Pixel 10 series: The anticipated Google Pixel 10 series is expected to encompass four models: Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Google is unlikely to introduce a major design overhaul this year, instead opting for subtle refinements. However, notable changes are expected in the camera department, particularly for the base model. The standard Pixel 10 may adopt the same main and ultra-wide camera sensors seen in the Pixel 9a, which would represent a downgrade compared to the Pixel 9. It might compensate for this by adding a telephoto lens with 5x periscope-style optical zoom, similar to the one found on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL are expected to retain their current camera systems, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold may also switch to the Pixel 9a's primary sensor, replacing the higher-resolution sensor previously used in the foldable model. All four devices are expected to run on Google's upcoming Tensor G5 chipset and boot Android 16 out of the box. Last year, Pixel 9 launched with Android 14 even though Android 15 was already in preview. Google is likely to change that this year as Android 16 is already rolling out to eligible Pixel devices. Additionally, the Pro models may support the Qi2 wireless charging standard. Alongside the Pixel 10 series smartphones, Google is anticipated to launch wearable devices including the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a. Pixel Watch 4: Details on the Pixel Watch 4 remain limited, but TechRadar recently reported that it will be available in 41mm and 45mm sizes, similar to the previous generation. It may also be offered in new colour variants, including: Silver/Porcelain Silver/Iris Gray/Moonstone Black/Obsidian Gold/Lemon Pixel Buds 2a: Google is also expected to refresh its Pixel Buds A-series lineup with a new model, likely called Pixel Buds 2a. These earbuds are tipped to include updated audio drivers for improved sound quality and new colour options like: Hazel Strawberry Iris Fog Light Made By Google 2025: Expected pricing of Pixel 10 series According to a recent 9to5Google report, pricing for the Pixel 10 lineup will largely mirror last year's Pixel 9 series. Here's a look at the anticipated European pricing: Pixel 10: €899 (128GB) Pixel 10 Pro: €1,099 (128GB) Pixel 10 Pro XL: €1,299 (256GB) Pixel 10 Pro Fold: €1,899 (256GB) As for accessories, the Pixel Buds 2a are expected to be priced at €149, up from €109 for the original Pixel Buds A-Series.

Malaysia AI chip export curb: Malaysia blocks export and transit of US-made AI chips, targets illegal shipments to China

Malaysia on Monday imposed immediate restrictions on the export, transshipment and transit of high-performance AI chips made in the United States, aiming to plug regulatory gaps and prevent unauthorised rerouting of sensitive technology to countries including China. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The country's investment, trade and industry ministry said in a statement that all such movements of US-origin AI chips will now require a strategic trade permit, according to AFP. "This initiative serves to close regulatory gaps while Malaysia undertakes further review on the inclusion of high-performance AI chips of US origin" into its Strategic Items List, the government said. The move follows concerns raised by Washington over the transshipment of advanced AI chips via Malaysia, especially amid reports that these chips may have been diverted to Chinese entities despite ongoing US export curbs. Malaysia serves as a key logistics and export hub for high-end AI chips due to its strategic location and deep integration in global supply chains, experts say. Last month, Malaysia said it was investigating reports that a Chinese company had used Malaysian data centres equipped with US-made Nvidia chips to circumvent US export controls. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Chinese engineers allegedly transported hard drives containing training data to Malaysia in March to develop AI models locally, before planning to bring the finished models back to China. The US has tightened restrictions on advanced chip exports to China as part of broader efforts to limit Beijing's access to cutting-edge technologies seen as vital to AI and defence capabilities. China, in response, has maintained that its firms operate within the bounds of international and domestic laws. "China is willing to work with countries in the region, including Malaysia, to jointly maintain a free and open international trade order," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at the time. In Monday's statement, the Malaysian government reiterated its position, saying it "stands firm against any attempt to circumvent export controls or engage in illicit trade activities by any individual or company."
