Concacaf Gold Cup bracket, schedule: USMNT vs. Costa Rica in quarterfinals
The U.S. men's national soccer team has won all three of its Concacaf Gold Cup matches so far, but the knockout stage will present an entirely different challenge for Mauricio Pochettino's squad.
Will ghosts of recent tournaments past haunt the USMNT?
The U.S. crashed out of the 2024 Copa América in the group stage, then lost in the Concacaf Nations League semifinals to Panama. On Sunday, June 29, the USMNT faces Costa Rica in a Concacaf Gold Cup quarterfinal, looking to build some momentum heading into next year's World Cup.
The USMNT has reached eight of the last 10 Gold Cup finals. That is a realistic goal again this summer, even for a U.S. team missing many of its key players for various reasons, most notably Christian Pulisic.
Those absences have created an opportunity for others to step up. Attacking midfielder Malik Tillman now seems like a lock to make the USMNT World Cup team next year. Forward Patrick Agyemang is a matchup conundrum for opposing defenders. Defender Alex Freeman, son of former NFL wide receiver Antonio Freeman, might have played his way into the conversation, too.
When is the USMNT vs. Costa Rica Gold Cup quarterfinal?
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 29.
Where will the USMNT vs. Costa Rica Gold Cup quarterfinal be played?
The USMNT vs, Costa Rica Concacaf Gold Cup quarterfinal will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. U.S. Bank Stadium is the regular home of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings and hosted Super Bowl LII.
How to watch USMNT vs. Costa Rica

Star player says YES to Liverpool transfer
But probably the transfer that is of the highest importance is the centre-back position. With Jarell Quansah expected to imminently complete his move to Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool are left really short in that department. That's why it's important to bring in a replacement for Quansah and it looks like Hughes is already nearing a move for an England international. Advertisement Marc Guehi seems to be the club's first priority and now it seems like the Crystal Palace star has helped Liverpool's cause by saying yes to a potential move to Anfield. According to journalist Nicolo Schira, Guehi has 'given his availability' to join Liverpool and sign a contract until 2030. The report goes onto say that Liverpool are now working on reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace. What that agreement will look like remains to be seen. Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool are looking to agree a £40m deal, which would be an absolute bargain. Guehi has been the star of a really exciting Palace team for some time now. He's their club captain and he is also a regular at international level for England. Advertisement Bringing in a player with that kind of experience to replace Quansah's role in the squad is a huge upgrade. Not to mention, Guehi only turns 25-years-old next month - meaning he is extremely young. And on top of that there's the bonus that ex-Chelsea players always tend to do well at Anfield. From Daniel Sturridge to Mohamed Salah, Guehi might be the next one. He definitely seems keen on the move. Now it's just up to Liverpool to strike an agreement.

Steelers New T.J. Watt 'All-Time-High' Contract Rumor 'Comes Out of The Blue'
Steelers New T.J. Watt 'All-Time-High' Contract Rumor 'Comes Out of The Blue' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Amid all the posturing and the threats and the goofy trade rumors, most of us can stay rational enough to agree that somehow, some way, the Pittsburgh Steelers will soon make edge rusher T.J. Watt one of the highest-paid defenders in the NFL - again. Advertisement How much will Watt get? What about years and guarantees? What about where he will end up ranking amid the highest-paid guys in the game ... and in the history of the game? Here's a new wrinkle ... Bleacher Report's James Palmer is reporting as of Wednesday that the Watt number could be at the very all-time top, up and over the Cleveland Browns' recent deal with Myles Garrett. Color us skeptical ... but let's hear out Palmer ... 'I'm hearing there's a chance Watt gets past $40 (million APY(, which is something we're really keeping an eye on, right? That if he gets that $40 million per year at the age that he is at. ' Palmer said on his NFL Insider Notebook. 'He has every right to ask for it. I've talked on here a lot about the comparisons between him and Myles Garrett. The numbers are almost identical in every aspect in terms of superlatives and in terms of numbers, and they came in the same draft class. Advertisement 'He has the right to try to get that. We'll see.' Whoa. Says our NFL insider Mike Fisher: "With all due respect to the plugged-in Palmer, this take sounds like it comes from someone who just got off the phone with T.J. and his agent. ... It kinda comes out of the blue.'' Watt is presently entering the final season of his $112 million extension signed just ahead of the 2021 NFL year At the time, the deal made Watt the highest-paid NFL defender. On that extension, the edge rusher has received an average annual salary of $28 million. But other defenders have blown past that historic deal over the past four years. Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns this offseason. Advertisement And now? Either Watt is about to catch up with that ... or his representation wants to float that trial balloon info out there. Related: Aaron Rodgers Sends Steelers Sneaky T.J. Giants RB Reveals Welcome-to-NFL Moment With Steelers Legend
Giants RB Reveals Welcome-to-NFL Moment With Steelers Legend originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For rookies coming into the NFL, they can all look forward to a "welcome to the NFL moment" where they have an interaction with a veteran or a star player that humbles them. Advertisement And New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. had one of his own in his rookie year this past season. In a recent appearance on NFL Network's Good Morning Football Friday, the second-year NFC East running back talked about a time where he had a run-in with one of the best Pittsburgh Steelers' best defensive players of all time. "The one I remember is the Steelers," Tracy said. "So I'm doing my inside zone and I'm thinking the gap is there. If you're a running back, you understand that like the holes is there, until they're not. And Cam Heyward, he's two-gapping, so he's making it look like it's there... He hit me so hard to where I hit my head on the ground and I just kind of had to lay there for a little bit... Yeah, I'm in the NFL. They're just a little bit different." Tracy started in just 12 games for the Giants in his rookie year, but he was still able to rack up 839 yards and five touchdowns, as he made the most of the opportunities he was given. But as good as he was, it's tough to faze a player of Heyward's caliber. Advertisement The 36-year-old defensive lineman has been in the NFL for 14 seasons, and he has been a Pro Bowler seven of those seasons, as well as First Team All-Pro for four of them. Every NFL rookie is going to have a moment in their first year that humbles them, and Tracy got his from one of the best in the business.
