Costa de la Luz isn't necessarily a hidden gem - it's home to hotspots like Cadiz - but the region boasts over 200km of golden sandy shores, so there's ample opportunity to enjoy a holiday without the crowds. We asked the experts at On the Beach to uncover some of the best destinations for June if you want hot and sunny weather, but without too much hustle and bustle, and the Spanish region was one of their top 10 choices. "Spain's 'Coast of Light' is still Spain's best-kept secret in early summer, expect glowing sunsets and empty golden sands, just you and the Atlantic breeze," they explained. "It's where Spaniards holiday but way quieter than the tourist-heavy Costa del Sol." For those who love city breaks, Cadiz needs to firmly be on your radar. Boasting the likes of 300 days of sunshine and one of the world's best beaches, it offers an ideal mix of city and beach. Cadiz is one of Europe's oldest cities, so intrepid explorers will be treated to plenty of impressive fortresses and beautiful cathedrals, while the Mercado Central is definitely one for the itinerary with its awe-inspiring architecture. The city also offers a brilliant nightlife, and countless restaurants for some classic tapas and wine. As for that beautiful beach? It's called Punta Paloma, and it never fails to impress. In fact, visitors on Tripadvisor have described it as a "hidden gem [which] was a total mind-blowing place" with "extremely clean water", not to mention the beach is surrounded by beautiful sandy dunes and postcard-worthy vistas. Other golden shores where you can escape the crowds also include the likes of Bolonia and Valdevaqueros. (Not to mention the food and drink there is incredible, so leave time one afternoon to just bask in the sunshine while tucking into that mouthwatering Spanish fare). Meanwhile over in Huelva, in June you can witness the annual festival and pilgrimage of El Rocío which attracts millions of tourists (in 2025 it takes place June 6-9 so avoid these dates if you don't want to be in the crowds), but if you're after those empty beaches then the shores of Matalascañas and Mazagón are worth having on your radar. Oh, and make sure to leave time to go exploring the breathtaking marshes and wetlands in Doñana National Park - and keep an eye out for its famous flamingoes. The good news is that you don't need to break the bank if you want to visit. For example, On the Beach offers Costa de la Luz holidays from £372pp, with the cheaper rates falling outside of the peak school holiday dates.

How I did a luxury holiday in the Maldives for cheaper than a week at Center Parcs
I WAS lucky enough to travel to the Maldives recently – the stunning islands in the Indian Ocean, where the warm waters are teeming with tropical fish and turtles. The destination is - simply put - paradise. But what surprised me most about my exotic getaway wasn't the white sand beaches or the turquoise waters. It was the affordable price tag. A family holiday in the Maldives, it seems, may even cost you less than an activity-packed getaway at Center Parcs, right here in the UK. The cost of living crisis and newly-introduced taxes have caused the price of UK holidays to soar in recent years, with staycations setting families back eye-watering sums. New data from On the Beach showed that 34 per cent of Brits believe a holiday in one of Europe's beach resorts offers better value for money than a UK break. Depending on which resort you choose, there's endless fun for both kids and adults, as I found during my recent stay at the 4* Sun Siyam Olhuveli, in the South Malé Atoll. A whole week can be spent snorkelling through colourful reefs, sharpening up your racket skills on the tennis court and speeding across the ocean behind the wheel of a car that drives on water. After a short stint here, my opinion on the sleepy honeymoon hotspot had changed completely. There was so much to do that the destination felt somewhat like a Center Parcs, only with much warmer weather AND (here's the key point) it was cheaper – yes, really. So, can a luxury holiday in the balmy Maldives really match the great British getaway on price? I've crunched the numbers and the answer is yes. Center Parcs' Elveden Forest in Suffolk recently opened a number of luxury water lodges, set on its tranquil lake, much like the over-water villas that are synonymous with the Maldives. And much like the Maldives, Center Parcs is also bursting at the seams with activities. Archery classes? Yep. Watersports activities? Plenty of those. Indoor gaming areas? Teens will love that. But all of these activities don't come cheap. And, ultimately, that's what sways the price. 11 11 Travellers can bag themselves a seven-night all-inclusive break at Sun Siyam Olhuveli for £1,359pp for a family of four travelling in June 2025, outside of the school holidays, with Travelbag. This price includes all flights and speedboat transfers to the resort, too, plus a lot of activities and snorkel gear. It means that kids and parents can wander from their bedroom straight into the ocean or house reef to spot a plethora of fish. The cost above also includes an excursion, such as a sunset cruise where you'll take in breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean (keep your eyes peeled for dolphins). What else? On top of the bucket list experiences, dotted around the resort is a giant chess board, tennis and badminton courts and beach volleyball. Non-motorised water sports like kayaking and paddle boarding, Maldivian themed nights, evening entertainment and weekly prize giveaways are also included in the price above. So, for a family of four, the total cost racks up to £5,436, which admittedly does sound steep - and you will have to travel during term time to bag this last-minute deal. But what I love about an all-inclusive is that you don't need to spend a penny when you're there. And with these packages covering nearly every restaurant at the resort as well as certain drinks and cocktails, you're not missing out. Center Parcs, by comparison, looks a similar price at first glance, during the same time of year. A quick search showed that to stay in one of the resort's new waterside lodges at Elveden Forest during the same month next year will cost around £5,298 for one week. This does, however, sleep six guests instead of four - so you'll have room for an extra two kids or you can bring the grandparents along for babysitting duties. Food and drink is not included, though, and nor are most of the activities. And this is where the costs add up pushing it significantly over my Maldives trip. One lasagne will set you back a hefty £17 at Center Parc's Whinfell Forest resort, while a prawn spaghetti costs £18. Multiply that by a family of four and that comes to over £500 for just one meal each across the week. Extras like archery sessions cost from £21pp for 55 minutes, while paintballing costs £47 and kayaking is £15 for a double kayak for 30 minutes, all at Elveden Forest. It's easy to see how the prices can soar. That's not to say that Center Parcs doesn't have its perks. In terms of activities, this adventure holiday company is unbeatable and a small Maldivian island simply can't compete on scale. The prices can't exactly be compared like for like, either, with costs varying according to the time of year and number of people visiting. But if you're after something different, where you won't have to panic about spending money when you're there, booking a package further afield could be the way to go. One thing is for sure. The look of sheer excitement on your child's face when they spot their first turtle is something money can't buy.

'Pretty island' just 4 hours from UK often overlooked by tourists
Brits looking to escape the crowds in the Canary Islands may want to check out one gorgeous spot that often 'flies under the radar' because it's a little more reserved than other holiday hotspots A beautiful island that's just a four-hour flight from the UK has been tipped by travel insiders as a must-visit for those who want to escape the summer holiday crowds. La Palma isn't a secret holiday spot by any means, but according to experts it 'flies under the radar' when it comes to the Canary Islands, because the likes of Tenerife or Lanzarote have a bigger reputation for their party scenes and beaches. Still, for those who want sun, sea and sand as well as plenty of breathtaking scenery for those all-important Instagram snaps, La Palma is worth having on the list. According to On the Beach, one of the best months to visit is June when the weather is getting hot and sunny (temperatures tend to be around the high twenties), but the summer crowds haven't descended onto the resorts yet, since it's outside of the peak school holiday seasons. "The 'Pretty Island' lives up to its name, lush, volcanic and peaceful, especially in June. Unlike Tenerife or Gran Canaria, La Palma flies under the radar, perfect for peace seekers," the brand's chief customer officer Zoe Harris told the Mirror. If you're not tied to term dates, June isn't the only great month to visit La Palma. Like the other Canary Islands, it boasts year-round sunshine and balmy temperatures, so it can be a brilliant winter sun destination, especially if you're hoping to make the most of the countless hiking trails without having to deal with the summer heat. After all, La Palma is a must visit for any intrepid explorer, as it boasts a rugged coastline and rocky summits, so it's well worth lacing up your hiking boots for an adventure. One particularly popular spot is Playa Nogales, one of the top-rated on Tripadvisor. You'll need to take on a steep path to reach it, but when you do, you'll be treated to spectacular views courtesy of the black sand shores. "Of the best beaches I have seen, quiet, clean and with black sand," one happy visitor wrote. "To enter you have to go down a few steps, but it is very worth it. Bathing is difficult because of the waves, so I do not recommend bathing. A treasure in the palm." Speaking of beaches, the island has plenty on offer for the sun-seekers who want to lay out a towel and bask in the summer warmth. Most of the beaches boast black sands because of the volcanic landscape, but that doesn't mean you can't relax on them! For example, Puerto de Tazacorte beach is popular with families thanks to the large stretch of shore, the nearby restaurants and cafés, and amenities such as sunbed hire and a car park. If you're looking to add La Palma to the bucket list, the good news is that getting there is pretty simple. There are a variety of direct flights from the UK on offer with the likes of easyJet and TUI, with a flight time of approximately four hours and a half. Oh, and one top tip when you're booking your holiday - make sure you don't confuse it with Palma, the city in Majorca! Although also a brilliant holiday hotspot with beaches and a plethora of hotels, bars and restaurants, it won't have the same landscape and it will likely be far busier than you'd be after...
