Beltline grows: New trail segment connects Westside
The Atlanta Beltline's new Westside Trail segment opens today, giving pedestrians and bicyclists nearly 7 miles of pavement — the longest uninterrupted stretch of the project's popular path system — to roam.
Driving the news: On Monday afternoon, Mayor Andre Dickens and Beltline officials will cut the ribbon on the 1.3-mile trail segment connecting Washington Park to Grove Park.
Why it matters: The trail hooks up with a Beltline spur trail that travels through English Avenue and ends at the Georgia World Congress Center, giving trail users a safe, off-street route to major events.
The path also continues to the north toward Huff Road and Blandtown, and then further into Buckhead.
Context: The trail crosses the future Valley of the Hawks green infrastructure project in the Bankhead neighborhood and abuts the 31-acre Beltline-owned property that could become housing, retail and more.
Yes, and: It also creates Beltline access for the 90-acre Grove Park property Microsoft purchased in 2021 for a massive office center. The tech giant halted that plan in February 2023 and has kept mum ever since.
A spokesperson for Mayor Andre Dickens told Axios the city "will have something to say regarding Microsoft in the very near future. Discussions are ongoing."
State of play: ABI's board of directors this past week approved the nonprofit's $242 million budget for 2026, Rough Draft reports.

Tesla's $4.20 Robotaxi Just Shook Wall Street -- $100 Billion Added Overnight
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) just gave Wall Street a new reason to believe in its AI-first future. On Sunday, the company quietly rolled out a limited fleet of robotaxis in Austin, Texas offering $4.20 flat-fee rides without human drivers. It's the first time real passengers have paid to ride fully autonomous Teslas, and on Monday, the market responded in kind: the stock jumped 10%, adding nearly $100 billion to Tesla's valuation. For Elon Musk, it's a critical pivot away from chasing mass EV adoption, and toward a bet-the-company push into autonomy and robotics. Early reactions? Mixed, but promising. Wedbush's Dan Ives took multiple rides and called the experience comfortable and safe, noting how the car handled narrow roads, traffic, and human unpredictability with striking caution. Influencers on X flooded the feed with real-world footage, showing Teslas navigating tight city blocks and reacting to opening car doors without panic. But it's still early. Just 10 cars, front-seat monitors still present, and a Texas law kicking in this September will require a state permit. Plus, Tesla's camera-and-AI-only approach (no lidar or radar) continues to raise red flags with safety advocates especially in fog, rain, or low sun. If the rally holds, Tesla inches back toward its $1 trillion crown. But the stock's still down 12% in 2024, as investors wrestle with slumping EV demand and the brand baggage of Musk's political takes. And at 149x forward earnings? It's priced more like a moonshot AI play than an automaker. Ford (NYSE:F) trades at 9.3x. Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) sits at 31.6x. That leaves Tesla with a simple but brutal test: can this robotaxi rollout scale fast enough and safe enough to justify the hype investors just bought into? This article first appeared on GuruFocus. How we choose the best July 4th laptop deals Many of us at CNET have covered shopping events for over five years, including Black Friday, Prime Day, Memorial Day and countless other shopping events. We've become good at weeding out scams and superficial deals, so you'll see only the best offers on our lists. We are looking for real discounts, quality reviews and remaining sale time when choosing laptop deals. We have a team of experts who have tested hundreds of laptops to make sure we're bringing you the best options at the best prices. Real discounts mean exactly that. We look at the price history for that product to make sure no brands are inflating prices to make the discount seem more substantial than it is. Quality reviews and testing are important for any product, including laptops. If you're unhappy the first time you turn it on, the discount wasn't worthwhile. Remaining sale time is a huge part of our vetting process. If a deal seems like it will only be around for a short while or will only be available for the remaining stock, we'll let you know upfront so you don't come back to the deal later only to be disappointed.
