File FIR against power station related to land mortgage in Kabini: MLA
Mysuru: HD Kote MLA Anil Chikkamadu instructed officials to file an FIR against Kabini Subhash Power Station in connection with allegations of obtaining loans by mortgaging govt land in Kabini.
The issue was discussed in a Karnataka Development Programmes review meeting held in HD Kote, concerning accusations that the Kolkata-based Subhash Power Station Corporation Limited attempted to illegally acquire govt land within the Kabini reservoir.
Following complaints of public outcry about the misuse of govt land from the public and people from various quarters of society, the MLA directed Saragur tahsildar Mohankumari and officials concerned with Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited to look into such complaints.
Even though state govt permitted the company to set up the power corporation after providing it land on a 30-year lease, the company is accused of transferring 13 acres into its name. It also obtained necessary khatas, RTCs, and fraudulently borrowed loans from several nationalised and private sector banks.
Speaking to TOI, social activist Doreswamy, a retired police officer, accused the previous tahsildar and other revenue department officers of Saragur taluk of allegedly transferring 13 acres belonging to the state irrigation department to this company.

He demanded state govt and irrigation department order a detailed probe into these allegations. Previous Saragur revenue department officials, including the tahsildar, transferred 13 acres of govt land bearing registration numbers 160, 161, and 162 to this company.
Doreswamy said he would continue the legal battle over the issue. Executive engineer of Kabini reservoir, Beechanahalli, Chandarashekhar, said he would verify this complaint and initiate action after discussing the issue with his higher-ups.
Senior manager of Subhash Power Station Corporation Limited V Senthilkumar denied such allegations levelled against the company and said they are ready for investigation as they did not commit any wrongdoing. They haven't obtained any loans after mortgaging property belonging to the state irrigation department. The company has also written letters to the state revenue department, local tahsildar, and even irrigation department officials of Kabini reservoir to rectify the error if the company's name is mentioned in RTCs and other land records.

NEW DELHI: The recently notified guidelines against the prevention and regulation of illegal sales of radio equipment, including walkie-talkies, on e-commerce platforms will help improve mobile quality of services (QoS) and uphold consumer rights, telecom carriers said on Monday. With the guidelines being notified on May 27, 2025, the Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) said it aims to enforce penalties and platform liability in case of non-compliance, mandate verification of seller credentials and certification, introduce automated monitoring and takedown mechanisms for unauthorised listing, and drive consumer awareness through disclosures. 'We sincerely thank the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for recognising the gravity of the issue and responding with these decisive measures. We believe that this proactive step will go a long way in ensuring quality of service and upholding consumer rights,' said SP Kochhar, director-general of the Cellular Operators Association of India ( COAI ). The Delhi-based association represents telecom incumbents including Reliance Jio , Bharti Airtel , and Vodafone Idea (Vi). According to COAI, the guidelines also provide a much-needed regulatory response to the persistent challenge of illegal sale and misuse of unauthorised wireless devices, including mobile signal boosters and jammers. Telcos have particularly hailed Clause 4(i)(b) of the guidelines, which explicitly prohibits online platforms from allowing the listing or sale of mobile signal boosters and wireless jammers, recognising the widespread network disruptions and consumer grievances these unauthorised devices have caused. Notably, COAI has repeatedly raised concerns regarding the rampant and illegal sale of such devices on e-commerce platforms and their unauthorised installation in residential and commercial establishments, which have been found to cause significant degradation in network quality and consumer experience across licensed telecom networks.

Madras High Court Stays Student's Rustication Over ‘Jai Bhim, Free Palestine' Graffiti
Last Updated: The court observed that the action taken by the institution, if allowed to stand, would cause 'too much hardship' to the student, who is at the 'fag-end of his career' The Madras High Court has stayed the rustication of a postgraduate student of the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), who was expelled after allegedly painting graffiti reading 'Jai Bhim" and 'Free Palestine" on hostel walls. The bench of Justice TV Thamilselvi passed an interim order on May 29 in favour of the petitioner, S Aslam, a second-year Master of Social Work (MSW) student at the Sriperumbudur-based institute. The court observed that the action taken by the institution, if allowed to stand, would cause 'too much hardship" to the student, who is at the 'fag-end of his career". The controversy began on May 24 when graffiti was discovered in the boys' hostel. The following day, Aslam was rusticated through an administrative order issued by the Director of RGNIYD. According to Aslam, he was served a notice via WhatsApp merely an hour before the enquiry meeting and was denied an opportunity to present his defence or respond to the specific charges against him. Aslam contended in his plea that the enquiry process was biased and motivated. He alleged that the Assistant Registrar, Avinav Thakur (Respondent No. 6), who was part of the enquiry committee, harboured personal vendetta against him and other students for exposing an alleged sexual assault case pending against him in Jharkhand. The student claimed that Thakur influenced the disciplinary proceedings and, with the support of the hostel warden, orchestrated the action taken against him. Labelled as engaging in 'anti-national activity", Aslam argued that the rustication order was a violation of his right to dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution. He maintained that the institute neither provided him the list of charges nor considered his documentary evidence. Moreover, his plea to be allowed to take his final exams and complete his internship reportedly received no response from the administration. Taking note of these allegations and the academic stage of the student, the high court granted interim relief. The court directed the institute to reschedule examinations, issue him a hall ticket, allow participation in the block placement programme in the Department of Social Work, and include him in the official WhatsApp group to ensure educational continuity.
