Arrested drug kingpin reveals cross-border link
Investigation revealed that Mattu procured both the heroin and Glock pistol from Ashu, who is currently lodged in Faridkot jail. One of the country-made pistols recovered from him was brought through a Ludhiana jail inmate, Vikramjit Singh. According to Mattu, Ashu smuggled the heroin and pistol from Pakistan. City police have nominated both Ashu and Vikramjit in the case and will bring them on production warrant for questioning soon.
Mukul Mattu was wanted by the police for threatening Dharampura resident Deepak for giving information on drug peddlers at the Safe Punjab helpline. The said drug peddlers contacted Mattu, who is involved in drug smuggling himself. On August 12, Mattu and his aides turned up outside Deepak's house and brandished a gun to threaten him and his family. Police lodged an FIR in the case and arrested Mattu, who is facing about eight FIRs.
Ludhiana crime branch in-charge, inspector Beant Juneja said, "During interrogation, Mukul revealed that in 2022-23, he was lodged in Ludhiana Central Jail, where Ashu was also lodged. He said that Ashu, who he became friends with, has links with cross-border smugglers. It was Ashu who delivered the 1kg heroin and 9mm Glock pistol with 7 cartridges, which police recovered, to him. Ashu is currently lodged in Faridkot Jail.
He has been nominated in the FIR and will be brought on a production warrant for questioning."
The official added that the Glock pistol recovered from Mukul is made in Austria.
"Mukul confessed that he also brought the two .30 bore pistols recovered from him through a Ludhiana jail inmate named Vikramjit Singh," inspector Juneja added.
Another senior official shared, "During interrogation, Mukul claimed that Faridkot jail inmate Ashu has links with cross-border smugglers.
He said that Pakistan-based smugglers gifted a Glock pistol to Ashu for purchase of 1kg heroin. Mukul paid Ashu Rs 2.7 lakh for the Glock pistol. He paid about Rs 15 lakh for 1kg of heroin. Ashu sent his aide to Ludhiana to deliver the consignment about one and a half months ago. Police will verify Mukul's claims once Ashu comes on production warrant.

Two held for hurling petrol bomb in Ranipet
Two persons were arrested for hurling a petrol bomb at the house of an agent of Vellore-based LNS International Financial Services at Sayanapuram village near Nemili town in Ranipet on Thursday. Police said the arrested persons were identified as H. Dinesh (34) and R. Mohan (20). They were relatives of the victim S. Arun (43), an agent of the financial firm. All of them are native to the village. Initial inquiry revealed that the victim Arun allegedly convinced the duo to invest their money in the private financial firm to avail high interest on their deposits. Police said that, accordingly, the duo deposited around Rs 15 lakh in the firm. In February this year, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested 10 persons in connection with a scam involving LNS International Financial Services, where the company cheated over 5046 depositors and swindled ₹800 crore. The EOW registered a case against the dysfunctional financial firm, its sister concerns, and the directors and administrators of the firms, based on the depositors' complaints. Since then, the duo had regularly visited the victim's house and demanded return of their deposit. When Arun gave excuses for the same, the duo hurled the petrol bomb. No damage was reported. Police nabbed the suspects from their hideouts in Chennai. A case was registered by Nemili police and they were lodged in Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is underway.

'Leave Me Alone, I Am Not Helpless': Missing US Woman Resurfaces With Tribe In Scotland
Last Updated: Kaura Taylor, missing from Texas, was found with the Kingdom of Kubala in Jedburgh, Scotland. A woman from Texas who was previously reported missing has been found living with an off-grid community in the forests of Jedburgh, Scotland, according to UK-based media outlet SWNS. The woman, identified as Kaura Taylor, has taken the name Asnat within the group, which calls itself the 'Kingdom of Kubala." The community is led by Kofi Offeh, who goes by King Atehene and his wife Jean Gasho, known as Queen Nandi. They claim to be reclaiming ancestral land allegedly taken from their forebears more than 400 years ago. In a video message addressed to UK authorities, Kaura Taylor insisted she was living with the group by choice, saying, 'To the UK authorities, obviously I am not missing. Leave me alone. I am an adult, not a helpless child." The Kingdom of Kubala, which says it descends from the biblical King David, lives off-grid in tents, relying on natural resources and what they describe as divine law rather than local regulations. Members say they bathe in springwater, live without walls and rely on God-whom they call Yahowah- for food and protection. King Atehene told SWNS, 'We live a very simple life of returning to innocence. We connect to nature, to the trees around us. We are living a simple life of relying daily on the creator for food, shelter and clothing. We live in a tent without walls, but we are not afraid of anyone, for we have the protection of the creator, Yahowah." The group has faced eviction notices from local authorities and claims to have been the target of harassment, including an incident in which one of their tents was set on fire. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 5 govt teachers sacked after 11 yrs of servicefor getting jobs on fake docus; BSA orders FIR
Meerut: UP Primary Education Board has sacked five govt teachers in Bulandshahr after a probe revealed that "they secured jobs using fake educational documents in 2014", said officials on Thursday. The Basic Siksha Adhikari (BSA) has consequently ordered the registration of an FIR against them, while a recovery notice for the salary they withdrew during this period will be issued soon. BSA Laxmikant Pandey told TOI: "Verification work of teachers appointed after 2010 was going on, and after investigation and several rounds of checks by the department, marksheets of at least four assistant teachers were found to be computer-generated. It was found that they had tampered with the names and roll numbers of other candidates. Hence, on the basis of the probe report, their services were terminated." Notably, since the recruitment was merit-based, some aspirants inflated their scores by submitting forged marksheets and certificates to secure jobs, he said. The sacked teachers -- Pushpendra Kumar, Ashish Kumar, Dinesh Kumar and Ashish Kumar (all from Firozabad) -- got the job in 2014, and were posted as assistant teachers in schools of Dibai block, Bulandshahr. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo The salary recovery amount from the four teachers may be Rs 2 crore, an official said.
