Tom Aspinall sends MMA fans into frenzy with 'heavyweight announcement'

Daily Mirror2 days ago

Tom Aspinall has sent MMA fans into meltdown following his recent announcement - despite warning the UFC faithful the news would NOT be fight related.
The interim heavyweight champion has not fought since defending his title last July against Curtis Blaydes. As for Jones, the 37-year-old defeated Ciryl Gane to claim the undisputed belt at heavyweight, but has only defended the strap once - a knockout victory over Stipe Miocic last November.
Immediately after the dust-up in New York, there was talk Jones might hang up his gloves, but he has since vowed to continue for at least one more fight. Six months on from the American's last fight, fans are still waiting for the UFC to finally announce the unification showdown between 'Bones' and Aspinall.
Despite the delay, UFC chief Dana White insists that significant news will be announced soon.On Wednesday evening, after a lengthy tease, Aspinall confirmed that he had penned a long-term partnership with sportswear brand Champion as well as a signature collection.
While it was not fight news, the massive endorsement deal with Champion is a big deal for the 32-year-old. Following the announcement, he even teased news of an undisputed fight this year, saying in the campaign content: 'This game will test everything, your body, your mind your, your patience.' He was then quoted as saying: 'This is the year of the undisputed champion,' indicating a potential unification showdown this year.
"I'm thrilled to be partnering with Champion, a brand with global reach and deep roots in sport" declared Aspinall in a press release. "Champion's values really reflect who I am and what I want to do in MMA. I've always said I believe I can transcend the sport into the mainstream. And we're not just creating gear - we're making apparel that works for fighters and inspires the next generation."
The British heavyweight sensation added: "This couldn't come at a better time. This is the year of the true undisputed champion. Someone who stays true to themself, dedicated to the sport, never says no to a fight and connects with the people who matter: the fans."
Before the big reveal, Aspinall had repeatedly reminded his followers on social media that fight announcements come from the UFC, not him. "As I said when it was first posted, I DO NOT ANNOUNCE MY FIGHT NEWS," he asserted, sharing a screenshot of a comment saying: "UFC announce my fights guys, not me."
Social media has been abuzz with reactions to Aspinall's news. One fan posted: "This is why I never care about those 'Special Announcements' bc it's always something outside of fighting," while another voiced their frustration: "Even though he told everyone multiple times I'm still fumin'." A different user showed their disappointment, posting: "Awwww damn. Thought it was Jones agreeing."

Take a bath under the stars at five-star Highlands hotel opens luxury cottage

The Torridon has launched Chestnut Cottage, a luxurious new retreat with loch views, a stargazing bath, and a cosy log burner The UK's most northerly five-star hotel has unveiled a luxury cottage offering guests unrivalled lochside views and the chance to stargaze while soaking in a warm bath. The Torridon's newest gem, Chestnut Cottage, is positioned as the estate's most exclusive offering. The newly-refurbished private retreat perfectly blends luxury with a warm, homely feel, capturing the essence of heritage, elegance, and comfort in the heart of the Highlands. ‌ Guests at Chestnut Cottage can indulge in an outdoor bath under some of the darkest and clearest skies in the UK, enjoy direct access to Upper Loch Torridon, and unwind by a cosy log burner that invites quiet moments with a good book. ‌ Inside, the walls are adorned with wallpaper by renowned British designer GP&J Baker, featuring herons and lilies that bring the beauty of the outdoors inside, fully immersing visitors in the stunning Wester Ross landscape. The cottage's style marries traditional Victorian touches, like a bespoke wardrobe crafted by Scottish artisan Danny Rusling, with contemporary elements, including a modern mulberry stripe placed horizontally for a fresh twist. Bold colours, plush velvets and vivid patterns create a tranquil yet energising atmosphere, designed to lift the spirits. ‌ Rohaise Rose-Bristow, co-owner and creative visionary behind Chestnut Cottage, explained the inspiration behind the space, saying: 'We wanted to create a space where guests feel inspired by the luxury touches, but comfortable enough to kick off your muddy boots.' She added: 'It's the perfect spot for guests to escape and to switch off from the world for a while, to recharge and leave feeling a little bit happier.' ‌ Rohaise and her husband, Dan Rose-Bristow, took ownership of The Torridon in 1998, with Rohaise blending original Victorian charm with her own modern design flair to transform the hotel into the unique sanctuary it is today. Nestled within 58 acres of private parkland at the foot of dramatic mountains and overlooking a shimmering sea loch, The Torridon is one of the UK's most celebrated luxury retreats. ‌ The estate boasts fine dining at its flagship restaurant 1887 and the Bo & Muc Brasserie, headed by acclaimed Chef Danny Young. Guests can also explore the whisky bar, offering 356 different blends, or take part in a wide range of outdoor activities from loch snorkelling and kayaking to hiking and clay pigeon shooting. The Torridon's grandeur echoes its history as a hunting lodge built in the 1860s by William King-Noel, the first Earl of Lovelace, and completed in 1887. ‌ The Earl is notable for marrying Ada Lovelace, Lord Byron's only legitimate daughter, who was a pioneering poetical scientist. According to The Torridon's website, the estate represents the kind of Scottish holiday home favoured by English nobility after Queen Victoria made the Highlands respectable once again. ‌ Today, Dan and Rohaise Rose-Bristow, who inherited the property from Rohaise's parents, have meticulously restored and reimagined The Torridon into a boutique hotel that honours its surroundings. The award winning hotel features 18 uniquely styled rooms and suites in the main building, plus 12 more in the Stables and The Boathouse for private getaways. Dining options highlight seasonal and traditional Scottish flavours, while outdoor adventures range from guided tours of lochs and glens to stargazing, sea kayaking, mountain biking, gorge scrambling and archery. Room rates start from £635, offering guests a luxurious Highland escape steeped in history, comfort and natural beauty.
