Toon's current shield crest design was introduced in 1988, the third since the 1950s, but there a number of issues regarding its use in branding and marketing have emerged over modern times.
That was based on the city's 1860s coat of arms - something marketing bods want to respect and keep at the heart of it.
It features a shield in the club's black and white colours with a gold trim, with two sea horses (hippocampi) included in a nod to the city's Roman past.
Though, the castle, lion and flag that it's holding are where some of the main issues arise.
There are issues with the details regarding both embroidery and in marketing corners as it is a struggle to see clearly what sits upon the castle on the shield.
The hooves of the horses do not interact or are symmetrical on the shield.
In all, they feel that it's a poor execution of the club crest no matter what technology or embroidery experts are used.
Now initial plans have been put in motion over what will be a delicate and sensitive piece of work starting with the survey sent out to fans.

Newcastle want to ensure that story of the club, community and people remain at the forefront of a new design that represents who the club are and want to be in the future.
There will be three options for the Toon Army to consider in the feedback - Refine, revise or reinvent.
Newcastle legend, 41, spotted BUSKING in city centre and gushes over 'dream come true' to play in 'my home'
Its main purpose is to see how important the castle, lion, flag and ribbon is to supporters.
The first two 'Rs' are understood to be the preference of club chiefs.
Though they are open to any wider concerns or further add-ons suggested and are determined to keep fans at the heart of the process and will remain in thorough and deep consultation process with them.
Fans will have a week to respond to today's survey and give their feedback while the club will host fan workshops both online and in person to provide more info and get more feedback.
SunSport understands it won't be a rushed process and that the current badge will remain for at least next season.
A host of clubs have changed crests, to very different responses, over recent years to a more minimalist look.
That has followed a trend by fashion designers such as Burberry - although they and even the likes of Ajax in the football world have since gone back to a more intricate look.

Kieran Trippier's estranged wife Charlotte 'consults lawyers' over marriage after England star seen with arm around mystery woman in Ibiza
England football star Kieran Trippier 's estranged wife is consulting lawyers after he was pictured with his arm around another woman in Ibiza, it has been claimed. The Newcastle United defender, 34, was seen mingling at the Spanish island resort - fuelling further speculation about his split from wife of nine years Charlotte. Trippier, who played 54 times for the Three Lions and whose previous clubs include Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, has a son and two daughters with Charlotte. The new reports of his socialising, after he helped his current club finish fifth in the Premier League this now-ended season, suggest he partied with two blonde women on separate nights - one in Newcastle, the other in Ibiza. Charlotte thanked online someone who sent a video of Trippier leaving a Newcastle nightclub on May 11 with one of the unnamed woman. Mrs Trippier, 35, wrote: 'Love a girls' girl. Thanks babe.' Now she is pondering potential legal action over their union, the Sun reported. A source was quoted as saying: 'Charlotte has taken legal advice over her marriage. 'She has got a new house, is settled, is moving on and wants to sort it amicably and be quite mature. She feels happier away from him.' That same source also described Trippier as 'devastated' by developments. They added: 'He has been desperately trying to get back with her but she's over him.' Trippier, thought to earn an estimated £130,000 per week, was reportedly spotted among revellers at Wafi Lounge in Newcastle - with a fellow guest filming on a mobile phone before contacting Mrs Trippier on Instagram with an alert. She posted: 'Hi, Kieran was out with some blonde t**t last night in Wafi Lounge. Just to let u know I have a pic lol.' Trippier's wife replied by saying, 'Thanks girl. U got the pic?', and was sent a screengrab of a video - appearing to show Trippier in a white T-shirt and sunglasses, alongside an unidentified woman. Charlotte responded with her 'Love a girls' girl. Thanks babe' comment, before giving a heart emoji to the correspondent's reply of 'Hope you're okay'. The woman taking the video later told the Sun On Sunday: 'I got in touch with her because, if a boyfriend or husband of mine was around town with another woman, I'd want to know.' Trippier has since been photographed with his arm around a woman in a straw hat at Ushuaia nightclub in Ibiza on Friday last week, the newspaper reported. The sportsman announced his retirement from international football in August last year - with MailOnline revealing how he wanted to to focus on life outside the game following his marriage breakdown. Speculation over the status of their marriage mounted last summer when Charlotte appeared to air her struggles during the European Championship in Germany, when Kieran was part of the England squad that finished runners-up to Spain. She uploaded a series of photos on Instagram for a break she enjoyed on the Greek island of Santorini following the tournament - while her husband was seen on a post-Euros trip to Turkey with friends. Those separate holidays came after she had shared a cryptic message on social media just hours ahead of England's first round group game against Slovenia. The mother-of-three posted: 'Sooner or later you get over the s*** you swore you'd never get over and it's the best feeling in the world.' The Mail revealed at the time how friends of Kieran were furious at her decision to share the post - which she then swiftly deleted - especially on such a highly-scrutinised day for the England side. Charlotte has often seen cheering her husband on from the stands in the past but was absent from Three Lions matches during Euro 2024. Charlotte provided an insight into their troubles when she took to Instagram just 48 hours before England's final group game against Slovenia last June and posted a cryptic message A source said last summer: 'It's been known for some time that things are not good between them. They've had a number of issues and have been trying to resolve them but it's proving to be quite a challenge. 'Charlotte has stayed in England with their children during the Euros, unlike the other WAGs who have all been flying to Germany for the games. It will be interesting to see what happens between them once the Euros are over.' Charlotte previously described herself on her Instagram page as 'married' and listed her interests as 'Family. Fashion. Travel' - but her profile now states: 'Mummy of 3. Keeping it simple and keeping it REAL. Life is too short to be anything but HAPPY. Make that change, life WILL get BETTER.'

Tottenham seal first transfer under Frank amid Mbeumo battle with Man Utd
Tottenham have opted to make Mathys Tel's deal a permanent one as he completes his move from Bayern Munich with Thomas Frank now looking to land Bryan Mbeumo Tottenham have completed the signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich on a permanent deal having landed him on loan back in January. The agreement gave the Premier League side the option to sign him this summer. Thomas Frank has given the move the thumbs up and the French forward has now signed a deal in north London until 2031 for £30million. He becomes Tottenham's first signing after being bought to the club by Ange Postecoglou. Tel made his debut for the Tottenham as a substitute against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and then marked his first start with a goal against Aston Villa in an FA Cup loss. He went on to make 20 appearances last term. Frank was hired earlier this week following years of impressive work at Brentford, where he took them from the Championship to the Premier League. He is tasked with improving the club's domestic standing and has gone after his former player Bryan Mbeumo. The Frenchman has just enjoyed his best season to date in front of goal and his signing would be a major statement given Manchester United's interest. Spurs have launched a £70m bid to hijack United's move, which breaks down to £65m plus £5m in add-ons. That is £10m more than United's. Frank wants to bring the 25-year-old with him to north London. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants to deliver the Cameroon international with the club able to offer Champions League football - something they can't do at Old Trafford. United remain the preferred destination for Mbeumo however. The Danish boss worked with Mbeumo since his arrival at Brentford from Troyes in 2019. United have already made two bids for Mbeumo, the most recent of which was a £60million package worth £55million plus £5million in add-ons last week. Brentford refused to accept it, leaving the door open for Spurs to come in with what could now be a decisive offer. Frank is set to cast an eye over 18-year-old Tottenham centre-back Luka Vuskovic in pre-season despite widespread loan interest in the Croatian. Spurs agreed a reported £12m package deal with Hajduk Split for the teenager, then 16, in September 2023 and they pipped Man City and PSG to his signature. Tottenham are in no immediate rush to make a decision over his future as numerous clubs register their loan interest and they're yet to rule out Vuskovic potentially staying put as part of their first-team squad for next season.

Liverpool star to agree transfer reunion after two arrivals in huge shake-up
Liverpool's goalkeeping department is undergoing huge change this summer, and Czech stopper Vitezslav Jaros is on the verge of becoming the second first-team keeper to depart Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros will team up with former Reds assistant coach John Heitinga at Ajax with a loan move close to being agreed for the 23-year-old. Czech goalkeeper Jaros served as third-choice stopper for the Reds in the past season, making two appearances for the first-team. Last October he came on for the final 11 minutes of the 1-0 Premier League victory at Crystal Palace following an injury to Alisson Becker, with Caoimhin Kelleher absent at Selhurst Park through illness. He followed that up by playing the full 90 minutes as the Reds beat Brighton 3-2 in the Carabao Cup later that same month. Heitinga has now identified Jaros as the perfect addition to his goalkeeping ranks after joining Ajax as the new head coach, and he'll be eyeing the No.1 spot after 41-year-old veteran Remko Pasveer played 43 times in the past season in all competitions. The loan will be Jaros' fifth away from Liverpool, but the first since he has tasted first-team football for the Reds. He has previously had temporary stints at St Patrick's Athletic in Ireland, Football League pair Notts County and Stockport County and Austrian side Sturm Graz, where he won a league and cup double. Jaros is expected to sign a new long-term contract at Anfield prior to making the move to Amsterdam, with his switch coming at a time of huge change in the goalkeeping ranks at Anfield. With Kelleher having joined Brentford in an £18m deal this summer, Georgia international Giorgi Mamardashvili will link up with the Reds a year after agreeing his move from Valencia. Mamardashvili is primed to serve as Alisson's deputy in the coming season, with the No.3 role perhaps taken by new arrival Armin Pecsi, with the 20-year-old having completed a £1.5m move from Hungarian side Puskas Akademia last week. There are high hopes for the Hungary under-21 international, with his compatriot and new Reds team-mate Dominik Szoboszlai revealing his role in the move. Speaking to Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport about his message to Pecsi, Szoboszlai said: 'I say, come there and enjoy it! 'Work hard every day, I think you know exactly what your goal is, you're determined enough; otherwise, you wouldn't have gotten to the club. Hard work will pay off in time.'
