Should he hold on, the American will become just the fourth player in history to win a Masters, PGA Championship and The Open before the age of 30.
And it is not bad company.
The others to achieve the feat?
Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

And yet Scheffler fully deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as the all-time legends.
He has spent 149 weeks as the world No1 and already picked up three Majors before his Portrush quest - aiming to join Woods as the only other golfer to collect the Claret Jug while at the top of the rankings.
Two of those came at Augusta, winning the 2022 and 2024 Masters.
But for all his dominance - he picked up nine victories in 2024 - there were a few questions.
CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS
Could he pick up Majors elsewhere?
And after conquering the PGA Tour in America, could he master links golf on the other side of the pond?
Amanda Balionis accused by Scottie Scheffler of 'trying to get him emotional' during live TV interview
For links golf - for many the purist form of the game - is a very different challenge with its layout, landscape and, of course, the weather.
He answered the first of those questions at the USPGA Championship in May, breezing to a five-stroke victory at Quail Hollow.
Scheffler sandwiched his PGA victory in between successes at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the Memorial, quashing Phil Mickelson's ludicrous claim in March that his compatriot would not taste victory before the Ryder Cup in September.
Now he is answering the second.
Rounds of 68, 64 and 67 - the 64 his best Major round of his career - put him in total control on the Northern Irish coast and left the rest of the field seemingly scrapping it out for second place.
Scheffler had the worst of the stormy weather on both Thursday and Friday, caught out in the torrential downpours and powerful gusts.
But as he so often does, the Texas titan - a giant bear of a man mountain - refused to lose his head.
Part of that is because he is so darn good.
Scheffler knows he is by far the best golfer on the planet.
Part of that is his strong mentality.
Scheffler's first three Majors were wrapped up by three strokes or more - he rocked up at Portrush on Sunday morning knowing he could well become the first man in the modern era to secure their first four by that margin.
And he very rarely squanders leads - claiming victory in his last nine PGA Tour events when starting the final round at the top of the leaderboard.
The one big blip was in 2022 at the Tour Championship when he was six clear but chased down by… McIlroy.
But the biggest part of Scheffler's ability to glide serenely and consistently through shot after shot, hole after hole, round after round and tournament after tournament is because of his perspective on golf.
For most of the greats of golf - and any sport for that matter - they are lauded for their sheer unrelenting dedication, devotion and determination to do absolutely anything and everything to win, win, win.
Winning, for them, is the be all and end all.
Not so for Scheffler.
His perspective has been questioned by some but his honesty is refreshing.

And few could argue against its success rate.
Yes, of course he wants to win every tournament he plays in - and much of the time, he does.
But ultimately, golf is part of his life but not his whole life.
His Christian faith, his wife Meredith and now his son Bennett are far higher on his list of priorities than getting a little white ball in a cup hundreds of yards away in giant fields around the world.
Scheffler admitted before this week's Open that the winning feeling is 'fleeting' and 'unfulfilling' - and that he would happily quit golf and walk away for good the day it gets in the way of his family.
Should a Claret Jug be added to his ever-growing trophy cabinet, which also features an Olympic gold medal, all eyes will be on Shinnecock Hills next June when Scheffler heads to the US Open looking to add his name into golf's ultimate history book.
Will it be Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler?
Winners of the career Grand Slam.
Only six men have done it so far.
Few would bet against Scheffler being the seventh.

Horse racing tips: ‘He has a cracking record at the track' – Templegate's GIANT 20-1 NAP on day one of Glorious Goodwood

TEMPLEGATE'S TIPS Horse racing tips: 'He has a cracking record at the track' – Templegate's GIANT 20-1 NAP on day one of Glorious Goodwood Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TEMPLEGATE tackles day one of Glorious Goodwood confident of giving the bookies a pasting with his top tips. Back a horse by clicking their odds below - and check out this 25-1 outsider who looks very dangerous after a break. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up DREAM COMPOSER (3.45 Goodwood, nap) Has a cracking record on the Sussex Downs with two wins and a host of excellent placed efforts on this tricky track. James Evans' flyer has dropped back to his last winning mark and showed plenty of heart when second in a tight finish at Pontefract last time. The ground was tacky in Yorkshire that day but he handles quicker conditions too. So this trip is ideal, he likes the track and is on a fair mark. The bookies are taking a chance by chalking him up around the 20-1 mark and he can go close under his capable 5lb claimer. DORSET (1.55 Goodwood, nb) This selection should be right at home on the south coast of England! The Aidan O'Brien hope is bred to be classy and looked full of promise when scooting in at The Curragh last month. He is proven over this trip and has much more to come. FRENCH MASTER (3.05 Goodwood, treble) He was impressive when winning a Royal Ascot handicap and this longer trip should bring even more improvement. He can go close for the Gosdens who love this race. Templegate's TV verdicts 1.20 GREY CUBAN clocked a massive personal best when scooting in at Chester last week and looks a fair price to go close again. The booking of Oisin Murphy takes the eye and he is best over this trip on fast or sticky ground. Five of the past six runnings of this have been won by a double-figure draw and even a 7lb rise in the weights doesn't dampen confidence. Jolly Jack Tar is improving with every run and looks the main danger. This is his turf debut for the Gosdens but he had plenty in hand when scoring at Chelmsford last time. He's up 9lb for that but stays and can progress again. Castle Cove is another coming here from a Chester win that was all the better as it came from stall 13. He's on the upgrade for William Haggas. English Oak ran well at Hamilton last time and will go close if seeing out this longer trip while improver Defiance lurks on a fair mark. 1.55 DORSET looked the latest future star off the Ballydoyle production line when stepping up from his debut to win impressively at The Curragh. As you'd expect he's from a high-class family and likes this trip. He should take another big step forward under Ryan Moore. Wathnan Racing snapped up Humidity just before his all-the-way win in the Chesham at Royal Ascot and he's another with plenty more to come. He looks the main threat. Zavateri clocked a good time when winning the July Stakes over 6f at Newmarket. He came from off a strong pace there and should enjoy going up in trip. He has a 3lb penalty but Eve Johnson Houghton continues in excellent form. Do Or Do Not came home with a real rattle for second in that race and will also appreciate this trip. Andab needs more after his Coventry Stakes fourth while Laureate Crown was impressive on his Ascot debut and could nick a place at decent odds. 2.30 NOBLE CHAMPION was impressive when winning the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. Being gelded over the winter has clearly worked wonders as he looked a different horse and clocked a decent time despite drifting across the track late on. He's proven over the trip and is open to plenty of improvement. Kinross still looks the main danger at the age of eight. He's won this twice and has been placed on his two other attempts. He was just behind Ten Bob Tony – who has an each-way shout here – at Haydock last time but is better off at the weights today and will have needed that comeback. His liking for the track is a major plus. Last year's winner Audience has been struggling but he's back from a little break and returning here may rekindle his flame. Quinault got the job done well at York last month at Group 3 level and looks a big price to make the frame over an ideal trip. Jonquil was a head second in the French Guineas before finding the drop to 6f too much last time. This in-between distance could be just right. Lake Forest has some decent form over this trip and is better than we saw at York last time out. 3.05 FRENCH MASTER put himself right in the picture for the Goodwood Cup when running away with the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot last time. He won that competitive contest over 1m6f like a top-quality Cup horse in the making. He travelled nicely off the pace and had to come very wide around the home turn before picking up quickly along the short Ascot straight to score going away. He clearly has more on his plate here but that built on another promising victory over the same trip around here in May. That shows his liking for the track and moving up to two miles can unlock more improvement too. There's no doubt he needs a step forward but at this early stage of his career that's highly likely. Illinois sets the standard after his second in the Ascot Gold Cup last time to the gutsy Trawlerman. That was his first crack over two miles or more and he saw it out well enough, still finishing ahead of some useful marathon runners. He kicked off the season winning the Ormonde at Chester so he comes here without too many miles on the clock. The doubt about him has to be the track although handling the Roodee bodes well for taking to Goodwood and he has been a little uneasy in the market this week. That's largely because of a move for Aidan O'Brien stablemate Scandinavia who took the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket last time without breaking sweat. He was beaten just a length in the Queen's Vase before that and is another who looks suited to this trip. He's the Ballydoyle second string but still sets a pretty decent standard. Sweet William fans will hope eight line up as he has solid each-way claims at a track that really suits him. He won a big handicap here in 2023 and was second in this race to Kyprios 12 months ago and none of today's rivals are up to that standard. He can be relied on to give his running and a podium finish is highly likely. Sunway is interesting going back over a long trip after a fair run in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot but needs more. Military Academy came up short at Listed level here last time and is likely to find this a bit too much. Trueshan isn't the horse he was and wants it much softer, while Dubai Future was a good if distant third in the Ascot Gold Cup last time and is getting on at the age of nine. 3.45 DREAM COMPOSER has a cracking record at Goodwood and looks a big price in a wide-open race. He's dropped to his last winning mark and went close at Pontefract last time. A repeat of that gives him a solid chance. Redorange was beaten just half a length in hot company at Ascot last time despite having the worst of the draw. That was after an excellent third at the Royal meeting and he's a threat. Adrestia finished two places ahead of him in that race and ran well in a Sandown Group 3 last time so is respected. Shagraan often runs well here and is another coming off a good spin in Group company. Regal Envoy won nicely twice at Windsor before misfiring at York and could bounce back under William Buick. Miss Attitude went close in a York Listed contest last time. ‘I'm a wreck, everything hurts' – Man City boss Pep Guardiola reveals his plan to quit football and ‘focus on myself'

The Spaniard is desperate to restore City back to the top when the Premier League kicks off next month after a spell of four league titles in a row ended in failure last season. According to close friends, Guardiola's mood is said to range from 'euphoric' to 'depressed' as the 54-year-old reiterated his plans to take a break from management after life at the Etihad. Guardiola even half-joked being boss of the blue half of Manchester has taken years off his life when he said: 'Quite a few, especially if things are going badly. 'As I am now I'm 75 years old! I'm a wreck, everything hurts right now. 'So, if it's my biological age… maybe if I take the test, I'll come out younger. I hope to be better than I am now in a while. 'If things are going badly, the nights are harder, the day-to-day is harder. "The job of a coach, and I'm not just saying this for myself but for all my colleagues, is 24/7. If not, you won't get through it. 'The pressure on your shoulders is enormous, and you need people to lend a hand to put things into perspective, above all. 'You have to try to achieve stability when you have so many ups and downs and you're up to your neck in everything. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS 'A friend of mine, who I think defined me very well, once told me that I have three states as a person: euphoric, depressed, and absent. Those are my three states. "So the point is to try to stay in the middle of these three.' Guardiola left scratching his head as City blow 3-0 lead against Feyenoord Guardiola showed how the stress got to him while City did not win any major silverware last term. Before the Club World Cup, the ex-Barcelona and Bayern chief revealed he struggled to eat during a miserable campaign. And as he heads into a tenth season in charge of City, Guardiola has the hunger to reclaim that winning feeling. He told GQ magazine in Spain: 'I'm delighted to have failed. As I am now I'm 75 years old! I'm a wreck, everything hurts right now. Pep Guardiola 'I love failures. In this society where everything has to be perfect, where you have to post your food on Instagram… 'Oh, how good, how happy I am'. 'Every day we have to prove that we're happy. Well, yes, I'm sad, I fail and I lose. So?' Despite a struggle to qualify for the Champions League, Guardiola still signed an extension to his contract that now runs for a further two seasons. 5 Guardiola plans to take a break after his next spell with City Credit: Getty But he vows that by the end of the 2026-27 campaign he'll be calling at least a temporary halt to the career – as he did after leaving Barca before joining Bayern in Germany a year later. He said: 'I know that after this stage with City I'm going to stop, that's for sure. It's decided, more than decided. 'I don't know how long I'll stop for… a year, two years, three years, five, 10, 15, I don't know. 'But I will leave after this spell with City because I need to stop and focus on myself.' I know that after this stage with City I'm going to stop, that's for sure. It's decided, more than decided. Pep Guardiola Guardiola has this summer brought in new signings Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Sverre Nypan and James Trafford as part of his re-build of a squad last season that also aged badly. And as City return to pre–season training he says he's up for the fight again – no matter his emotional struggles, adding: 'The important thing is to give it your all and do it well. 'And I haven't given up on that… next year I'm going to do better. That's what it's all about.'

Incredible reason England Lionesses hero missed Downing Street party and open top bus tour revealed

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LIONESSES star Jess Carter missed the team's Downing Street visit for a shock reason. The 27-year-old centre-back was one of England's key players at the Euros, starting in all but one match en route to glory. They were immediately invited to Downing Street for a party, posing outside the famous No10 door on the red carpet. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock hosted the team as they sipped on drinks in the garden. But eagle-eyed fans noticed that Carter was surprisingly missing from the bash. It has now been revealed that the defender had to fly back to the US to prepare for her next club match. Carter plays for New York side Gotham FC and they face the Chicago Stars on Saturday. The club were harshly unwilling to give her any extra time off to celebrate and she was summoned back for training. It means Carter will also miss the open-top bus parade on Tuesday afternoon. Lionesses Anna Moorhouse and Esme Morgan also play for sides in the US. But they were allowed to stay in England to bask in the glory. Inside Lionesses' boozy Euro 2025 celebrations as stars party with pizzas, beers and loved ones after win over Spain It comes after Carter battled racist abuse that she received online during the Euros. After victory over Spain, she said: "I was super scared of playing the final for the first time in my life. 'When I woke up in the morning and saw my team and saw the support I had - and the belief I had from my team-mates, manager and family - I could come out and give my all. That's all you can do. 'It's incredible, the fans have been incredible all tournament and we couldn't have done this without them. We're so grateful for them and this moment. "Giving up is not in our DNA. We have stuck together from minute one. I couldn't be prouder of this team and I'm so honoured to be proud of it. 'I'm more disappointed in my previous performances than anyone else.' Remaining in Downing Street, the Cabinet Office is set to reward legends Hannah Hampton and Chloe Kelly in the next honours list. Leah Williamson's OBE may be upgraded to a CBE and Dutch boss Sarina Wiegman is in line for an honorary damehood. 4 Carter has had to go back to the US for her next club match Credit: Getty
