"Being here at the X Games makes me feel like when I first started watching X Games. Just that little kid in me. Skateboarding really brings that out," said Sloan on UNLEASHED. The podcast episode with Schaar and Sloan was originally recorded live on June 30 at a mobile studio overlooking the Utah State Fairpark and Event Center and streamed live on the Twitch platform. As of today, the 51-minute episode featuring the two skateboard innovators is available to global audiences. Ready to hear the full story? Released today, the new podcast is streaming on all major platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, and YouTube. The special episode gets personal with two bona fide skateboarding innovators: Tom Schaar shocked the skate world by landing the world's first 1080 air at the mere age of 12. Since then, he has matured into one of the most versatile skaters in the world, with medals in Vert, Pool, and Mega Ramp, along with countless trick innovations under his belt. Plus, a silver medal from the 2024 Paris Olympics. Equally inventive, Elliot Sloan has expanded the sport's trick vocabulary with his signature Cab heelflip Indy 720 and earned wins in Vert, Big Air, Vert Best Trick and MegaPark disciplines. Between them, these two innovators own 33 X Games medals, with Schaar holding 17 medals and Sloan 16 medals – a lot of heavy metal for a special podcast episode! What's more, the two skateboard innovators look back at their favorite moments with the late action sports icon Luke "The Dingo" Trembath, only on UNLEASHED! Schaar barged onto the skateboarding scene as a young kid with a big impact. At the mere age of 12, the Malibu native made history as the youngest X Games gold medalist to land the world's first 1080 air in competition at the Asia X Games in Shanghai. "When I got the gold in Mega, I was the young kid then. And it almost feels like a few months ago. I think when you're young, it's easier to learn stuff. You're made out of rubber and nothing hurts." As Schaar grew up, the trophies kept coming, including victories at Dew Tour and the iconic Vans Pool Party, while his skateboarding repertoire evolved. Drafted into Team USA in 2019, Schaar's time to shine came at the 2024 Paris Olympics where he earned the silver medal in Men's Skateboard Park. "Ever since I was a child, I always gravitated towards vertical skateboarding. There was a while when I stopped skating vert as much and focused more on riding park. But over the last four years or so, I started getting more back into vert. And it's just been fun!" Currently, Schaar is leading a renaissance in vertical skateboarding and just dropped a heavy video part produced by Monster Energy for the Thrasher magazine website. He also claimed gold in Skateboard Vert at X Games Osaka and now owns 17 X Games medals (four gold, four silver, nine bronze). Asked about the current level of competition at X Games, Schaar said: "I'm honestly just trying to keep up with these kids at this point. It's getting pretty gnarly. It's like I'm the oldest guy out there now." Sloan grew up in New York City, where street skating is the dominant form of riding and halfpipes are still a rarity. But after watching Tony Hawk put down the world's first 900 at the X Games, he decided to pursue vertical skateboarding. Ultimately, he decided to move to California for more options to skate and became one of the pioneers of Mega Ramp riding on large-scale ramps. "I was skating at Bob Burnquist's house a lot and he already had the Mega. And I'd seen the DC Video with the Mega Ramp video part and instantly knew I wanted to do this! It was terrifying and way bigger than I imagined, but after some time I dropped in and started getting into it," said Sloan on UNLEASHED. Sloan not only became a competitive force on the big ramp: A competitor in six(!) different X Games disciplines, Sloan now holds an impressive record of 16 medals (seven gold, seven silver, two bronze). He not only thrives on big Mega Ramp setups but can also throw down technical bangers in a regular vert ramp. Speaking on the escalating level of trick difficulty in today's competition, he said: "I think it's because of social media now that all these kids are just feeding off each other. They're seeing what everyone else is doing every day. And they go, 'Oh, this is possible?! Then I'm going to do this!' It's gone up so high in the last five years." Nowadays, Sloan trains his next-level tricks at his private 'Sloanyard' facility, where he also hosted X Games events in his backyard MegaPark and Vert setup in 2022 and 2023. Asked about building his own park, Sloan said: "That was always a big dream of mine. It just so happened that I found this property and we could build all this stuff there to practice. Holding the X Games there was such a trip!" Commenting on the legacy of Luke "The Dingo" Trembath, Sloan said: "X Games really doesn't feel the same without him. He was always there, always hyping it up. As soon as you would see him, I was immediately in a better mood! I definitely miss him." Three up, three down: An update on the Cubs, August 11 edition

The Cubs have now lost three of their last four series and are 10-11 since the All-Star break. That's not awful — good teams have stretches like that all the time — but it can't compete with the Brewers' 17-4 mark over that same span. Now we have to be concerned that the Cubs might fall behind the Padres in the wild-card race. As of Monday their lead is just 1.5 games over San Diego. Here's who's hot and not for the Cubs over the last week. Three up Could Cade Horton be the ace the Cubs are looking for? Horton's scoreless-inning streak reached 23.2 innings with his outing against the Reds last Wednesday. Over that streak he has allowed eight walks and 11 hits (0.761 WHIP). His strikeout rate (18 percent) isn't quite what it was in the minor leagues (31.7 percent) but perhaps that will come in time. Matt Shaw has completely turned his season around Shaw batted .333/.375/1.067 (5-for-15) over the week with a triple and three home runs. Since the All-Star break Shaw is batting .328/.349/.770 (20-for-61) with four doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 15 RBI, three stolen bases and 12 runs scored in 20 games (17 starts). He's raised his season OPS from .556 to .683 in that span. He and Horton might yet get into the Rookie of the Year conversation. Here's his game-tying home run in Sunday's contest. Andrew Kittredge made up for a bad game in a spectacular way Honestly, it was hard to find a third Cubs player for 'three up' this week. Most of the hitters had quiet weeks. None of the relievers did very well. And Kittredge was one of those who didn't when he allowed four hits and four runs to the Reds last Tuesday. He atoned for that with an immaculate inning Wednesday. Here are the three strikeouts: And this was accomplished with the same pitches to all three hitters: Not only did Kittredge strike out Austin Hays, Gavin Lux and Tyler Stephenson, but he did it using the same sequence of pitches. 'We went sinker, sinker, slider,' catcher Carson Kelly said. 'Sinker, sinker, slider. Sinker, sinker … slider? It was pretty cool to be a part of that.' Kelly paused for a second recalling the notion that maybe he should change up that last pitch — but the slider did the trick as all three batters struck out swinging. It was the Cubs' first immaculate inning since Hayden Wesneski did it Sept. 22, 2022 at Pittsburgh, and the first one at Wrigley Field since LaTroy Hawkins had one against the Marlins Sept. 11, 2004. Three down Where have you gone, PCA? A fanbase turns its lonely eyes to you Pete Crow-Armstrong went 2-for-21 (.095) over the six games with six strikeouts. He did steal one base, but then got picked off. And that was after going 1-for-12 against the Orioles, so in August PCA is batting .091/.118/.121 (3-for-33) with one double, no walks and 13 strikeouts. This is so far out of character with the rest of his 2025 season that you'd have to figure he'll break out of it sooner or later. Sooner would be good. Even with the slump, PCA is still leading the NL with 31 doubles and also has posted an NL-leading 6.1 bWAR. Kyle Tucker's power outage continues Tucker batted .167/.286/.167 (3-for-18) over the week with no extra-base hits. In fact, he has homered just once since June 28 (a solo shot vs. the Red Sox July 19), a span of 113 at-bats. Let's put to rest, incidentally, the idea that the minor finger injury Tucker suffered June 1 has anything to do with this slump. After the injury, Tucker sat out one game completely and pinch-hit the game after that. In the 22 games after that, Tucker hit .313/.406/.578 with seven doubles, five home runs, 13 RBI and 17 runs scored. It's not the finger. It's something else. The run-scoring slump that's affected almost the entire team (except, apparently, Shaw) is the culprit. The Cubs batted .256/.325/.446 and averaged 5.33 runs per game before the All-Star break. Since then: .244/.310/.399, 4.14 runs per game. If you can figure that out, please let Craig Counsell know.

Twins reinstate Byron Buxton from injured list to start series vs. Yankees

NEW YORK (AP) — The Minnesota Twins reinstated center fielder Byron Buxton from the 10-day injured list on Monday before beginning a three-game series against the New York Yankees, after the All-Star missed 13 games with inflammation in his left rib cage. Buxton was sidelined just before the Twins tore down their roster leading to the trade deadline. He was batting .282 with 68 runs, 23 homers, 59 RBIs and a .905 OPS in 85 games when he went on the IL, all team-leading totals and averages among players with a qualifying amount of at-bats. The Twins sent outfielder Carson McCusker to Triple-A St. Paul to make room for Buxton, who also has stolen 17 bases in 17 attempts. Despite the rib cage issue and a concussion that cost him time earlier, Buxton has been as healthy as he has in several seasons. He's on pace for the second-most games in his 11-year major league career, behind the 140 games he played in in 2017. ___ AP MLB:
