WRU told to act fast
Former Wales international Chris Horsman has told the WRU to act swiftly and show "strong leadership" after the governing body announced it could possibly cut two professional teams.
On Monday the WRU released a statement saying they were considering a "radical" strategy to change the game in Wales, with a period of consultation with the pro clubs about to be entered into.
Horsman, who played for the disbanded Celtic Warriors, says decisive action is now required.
"What the game needs more than anything at the moment is stability," said Horsman, who was capped 14 times for Wales, to the BBC.

"For me, if they're [the WRU] going to make the cut they've got to just come forward they've got to give us some strong leadership."
Initially the WRU said it wanted to retain all four professional teams and were adamant it had the required funding to make all successful, but they have changed their stance.

"Potentially they have got a year left of their contract," Horsman added.
"They [the regions] want financial stability. Are you going to buy a season ticket? If you're a business are you going to sponsor the region, because you don't know in three, four months' time, you might be told it's not going to be there anymore?
"So there are so many things resting on this decision and again we've got to wait.
"I know it's not going to be straightforward but we've heard that things were going to happen 18 months ago and they haven't, so I don't put a lot of stock in it's going to happen fast. I hope it does for the players' sake and for Welsh rugby's sake.
"One thing I will say is when we were at the Celtic Warriors, it happened over a weekend, pretty much, and as painful as it was at least it was done and then there was a decision made that the players were divvied up, pretty equally between the four regions and the game moved on quickly.
"I think that's what's needed now."
Welsh players were 'considered' for Lions call-ups
British and Irish Lions assistant John Dalziel says that Welsh players were considered for the various call-ups made by the tourists in recent days.
Andy Farrell has called Jamie Osbourne, Jamie George, Thomas Clarkson, Darcy Graham, Rory Sutherland and Ewan Ashman in to the squad to offer cover - with the size of the squad going up from 38 to 44.
No Welshmen have been called up - with Jac Morgan remaining the sole Wales player in the squad.
"They were considered like everything," said Dalziel when asked if any Welsh players were in the mix. "The process of the last few days hasn't been in the here and now.
"It's been for a long period of time. We've had a big list. When you're selecting the squad, there's so many quality players that if you ask anyone else, you'd have a different group of players.
"There's so many good players. Unfortunately, top-quality players have been left out the selection.
"They've gone and performed with their countries. As needs must, they're getting opportunities - some a bit later."
With hookers and looseheads called up, there could have been an opportunity for Dewi Lake or Nicky Smith to get a call-up. Smith ended the tour of Japan with an injury - travelling back with his foot in a boot.
As for Lake, the Lions opted for different hookers in George and Ashman.
'There's nothing really external that we considered or talked about," added Dalziel. 'Look at Jamie George, he had two 14-hour flights to get here. It's not an easy choice to get him in.
'We looked at it properly, it was a process with Jamie being part of the set-up at the start.
'New era' for Welsh rugby
Wales international Alex Cuthbert says the win in Japan in the second Test signals a "new era" in Welsh rugby.
A shocking run of 18 Test defeats came to an end on Saturday when Matt Sherratt's men dug deep to beat the Brave Blossoms in the sweltering heat of Kobe.
It levelled up the series 1-1 and Wales will hope this is the start of a clean slate now for whoever takes the reins permanently as Wales head coach.
BBC pundit Cuthbert says an enormous amount of credit needs to go to the players for digging deep in highly-emotional circumstances.
"Wales going through this run of not being able to win, it's a habit that sticks with you and the pressure builds and builds," he told the BBC.
"You could see it last week. This week they just seemed to manage it a lot better. You've got to give credit to those boys, they've had such a tough year.
"Someone like Aaron Wainwright has not won a game of rugby this year - it is good to see and just to get that monkey off their back.
"Whoever comes in now doesn't have that hanging around their neck like Matt Sherratt said.
"To get the win, for me now it's a complete clean slate, it's a new era at Welsh rugby."
Scotland duo out

Scotland have lost Jamie Ritchie and Tom Jordan to injury for their final summer tour match against Samoa.
Flanker Ritchie, who left Edinburgh this summer to sign for Perpignan, and new Bristol back Jordan were both injured in Saturday's 29-14 defeat by Fiji.
However, Matt Fagerson has brushed off the knock he suffered in Suva and both Ben Muncaster and Gregor Brown are in line to return for Friday's game at Eden Park in Auckland.
Assistant coach Pete Horne said: 'Jamie, unfortunately, he's hurt his foot. He's going to be ruled out for the weekend, which is a shame for him.
'We've got good news on Matt. He trained earlier and is going to be fit for the weekend, which is great.
'And then another one that's unlucky is Tom Jordan. He had a little bit of pain after the game. He doesn't really complain about anything but he had a bit of swelling in his hand.
'He went for a scan and an X-ray and he's actually got a fracture in his hand. So he's going to be ruled out of this weekend as well.'
On the players who missed out on Saturday, Horne said: 'Gregor is progressing really well. He took part in a bit of training earlier. He's going through his return to play protocol but he's tracking really well and should be available, all going well, over the next couple of days.

'And Ben was back training by the back end last week. So he'll be fine as well.'

Children's sports camp cancelled as Orange lodge notes ‘significant concerns' with GAA involvement
North Down Cricket Club had anticipated to host the kids summer camp at their Comber site on Friday but cancelled the event after opposition from a local Orange lodge. Goldsprings LOL stated that a number of residents in the area 'expressed significant concerns' on the GAA aspect of the camp. The cricket club had set out to involve 10 different local sports and community groups, including GAA games, in order to help the 'building of friendships through shared activity'. A spokesperson from North Down Cricket Club said it has been 'an important part of Comber since 1857 — the oldest sporting club in the town, with deep roots, proud traditions, and a strong sense of identity'. 'We reflect the best of our community and our Ulster-British heritage — confident, welcoming, and grounded in respect. This club wasn't just built by Comber families — it's still made up of them. "For generations, people from this town have given their time and care to something bigger than themselves. What they passed on wasn't just facilities — it was a culture of decency, community and quiet pride. That's the tradition we're proud to continue. 'It's often been sport that's brought people together when little else could: shared pride, shared joy, shared ground. 'The Sport Summer Camp was created to give young people from different backgrounds a chance to enjoy cricket, try something new, and simply have fun." The spokesperson added: 'The plan was to involve 10 different local sports and community groups — including organisations supporting ethnic minority communities — with the aim of building friendships through shared activity. A small group of children from a GAA club was just one part of that broader mix. 'As reaction to the event grew, we felt the spirit of the camp was at risk of being lost. With regret — and out of respect for all involved — we chose not to proceed. 'But let's be clear: openness is not a threat. Respect is not surrender. And our culture is not so fragile that it can't be shared. 'We are a strong club, in a strong town. That's why our gates will always remain open — and why we'll keep showing others what we're about: sport, community, and quiet confidence in who we are. That's what this was about." In a social media post, the area's local Orange lodge, Goldsprings LOL, said the club's presence 'would be viewed with regret and opposition by many in the Comber area'. 'While the promotion of sport and youth engagement is widely supported across all sectors of society, many local residents have raised reservations about the GAA's cultural and historical affiliations. 'Specifically there is unease regarding aspects of the organisation that have, in the past, celebrated or commemorated individuals associated with paramilitary activity. 'For a shared and peaceful future, such actions are viewed by some as divisive and incompatible with a truly inclusive society.' The spokesman added: 'Residents have made it clear that until the GAA takes meaningful steps to ensure it is fully inclusive and sensitive to the history and identity of the Protestant, Unionist and Loyalist (PUL) community, its presence in Comber would be viewed with regret and opposition by many in the Comber area. 'This issue is not about about opposition to sport, but about ensuring that all organisations operating in shared spaces demonstrate respect for all traditions and work proactively towards reconciliation and mutual understanding.' Sinn Fein MLA Colm Gildernew slammed the statement as a form of 'intolerance and divisiveness' which has 'no place in our society.' Mr Gildernew said: 'It is deeply disturbing that North Down Cricket Club has felt compelled to cancel its cross-community Sport Summer Camp because of the intolerance of some. 'Sport has a unique power to bring people together. "Children, including from East Belfast GAA, should be able to play together in an inclusive and respectful environment, to build friendships and get to know each other. "Local political and community representatives have a responsibility to call out and stand against this type of intolerance and divisiveness. There should be no place in our society for the attitudes and prejudices behind these developments." Meanwhile, Alliance MLA Kelly Armstrong said her party has offered North Down Cricket their full support after it has been met with 'hostility'. 'It is a disgrace the club felt it had to do that in the wake of such criticism,' Ms Armstrong said. 'Those who have criticised the club do not represent the vast majority of people in Comber or further afield in Strangford. The club was trying to bring positivity to the local community and has been met with hostility and bigotry from some quarters. "We have contacted the club to give our full support and ensure they are aware the vast majority of the town stands with them. 'The people who have criticised the club and forced the postponement of the summer scheme need to realise denying children the right to play sport together for purely sectarian reasons is not acceptable on any level.'

If that means upsetting some of your players, so be it. The club comes first. And while Arne Slot won his first Prem crown by just tweaking the framework he had inherited from Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's willingness to smash the British transfer record and bring Alexander Isak to Merseyside for £120million is the clearest signal that the Dutchman is looking to create something permanent. Slot's signings are eye-catching but he has brought in nearly £56m from the departures of Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher and Nat Phillips, with more to come if Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz go. With Madrid eyeing a move next summer for potentially out-of-contract Ibrahima Konate, the Reds have not given up on Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace. Isak, though, would be the icing on their cake. A line-leader who would offer a constant goal threat, able to hold the ball up and run in behind, and still not even entering his prime years. Keeping hold of Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah was Slot, making them believe last term was the launchpad. Glasgow Village hotel members overwhelmingly back strike
Workers at the Village Hotel in Glasgow were balloted on industrial action after bosses refused to negotiate with union Unite on paid breaks, the real living wage, and pay equality with the Edinburgh venue. It is understood that 100% of workers backed the strike on a turnout of 82%. Workers at Village Glasgow are demanding equal pay at the real living wage of £12.60 per hour, paid breaks, and addressing a disparity between what under-21 workers are paid in Edinburgh compared to Glasgow. In addition, the company said it had already carried out an internal grievance investigation into the pay disparity with Edinburgh which concluded that the higher rate of pay in the capital was due to the higher cost of living. An email sent to staff pointed to existing employee benefits such as gym and spa memberships, discounted hotel rooms and high street shopping discounts and said raising wages and paying for breaks was not "financially achievable" without it "adversely impacting on our ability to provide these other benefits". The strike is believed to be the first in a major British hotel chain in over 40 years. Bryan Simpson, National Lead for Unite Hospitality said: 'Our members at the Village Hotel in Glasgow have just delivered a resounding and historic vote in favour of strike action, giving them a clear legal mandate to shut down the most profitable parts of the company's flagship site. 'The ball is now with Village Hotels senior management. If they want to avoid the first hotel strike in nearly half a century, they must return to the negotiating table with a meaningful offer - one that includes equal pay, the real living wage, and paid breaks.' Village Hotel Club has been contacted for comment.
