NEET-UG 2025: Students raise alarm over faulty papers, urge NTA action
Students and parents flag errors in NEET-UG 2025, urging the NTA to ensure fair evaluation amid rising concerns over faulty papers and content

The NEET-UG 2025 examination, conducted on May 4 amid heightened security by the Ministry of Education in coordination with state authorities, is now facing backlash following reports of misprinted question papers and delays in grievance redressal.
According to a report by The Times of India, students and parents have raised serious concerns over the layout of question papers in certain centres, urging the National Testing Agency (NTA) to respond swiftly and ensure fairness in the evaluation process.
The results, expected to be released by June 14, hold high stakes for over two million aspirants vying for undergraduate seats in medicine, dentistry, and allied courses.
Booklet errors lead to confusion
In multiple examination centres, particularly in Sikar (Rajasthan) and Jamnagar (Gujarat), candidates reported receiving faulty booklets with misaligned page numbers and questions out of sequence.
Students assigned Paper Code 47 in Sikar found that question 7 was immediately followed by question 15, creating confusion during the test. A similar issue affected candidates using Gujarati-medium Paper Code 48 in Gujarat.
'I lost precious time trying to match the questions on the answer sheet,' said one student. Some reported marking the wrong answers entirely due to the disordered layout. ALSO READ:
Students asked to attempt faulty papers
Despite attempts to alert invigilators during the examination, candidates claimed they were told to proceed with the faulty papers. Guardians later filed formal complaints with both the Gujarat government and the NTA, providing scanned copies of the defective booklets.
'Students even raised the issue during the test but were told to solve the faulty paper,' a parent noted in a written complaint, as reported by the news outlet.
While the NTA declined to comment on the Sikar case, citing the matter as sub judice, the broader issue of paper quality remains unaddressed.
Syllabus concerns compound student anxiety
Alongside printing errors, candidates and coaching experts flagged questions they allege fall outside the prescribed NEET syllabus.
One such instance is question 38 from Code 47, which reportedly required the use of calculus-based derivatives—a topic more commonly found in engineering entrance exams like JEE (Main).
'All questions were from the prescribed syllabus. The answer keys have been published and objections invited from candidates. These will be reviewed by a committee of subject experts,' an NTA official said.

Among the injured was DC (Port) Harikrishna Pai, who, along with four other police personnel, sustained injuries during the scuffle. Two government vehicles were also reportedly damaged, and a motorcycle was set ablaze as clashes escalated. Reinforcements were called in swiftly, and senior officers led riot control teams to disperse the crowd. After regrouping near Santoshpur, the mob once again clashed with police forces, leading to another round of violence. However, after a sustained effort involving chase and crowd control measures, law enforcement successfully restored order in the affected areas. Meanwhile, patrolling has been intensified, and four individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence. What triggered the violence in West Bengal's Maheshtala? According to the report, the unrest stemmed from a simmering land dispute. Tensions flared when a group hastily constructed a 'tulsi mancha' at a location where a member of a minority community previously ran a shop. The shopkeeper was reportedly away celebrating Eid, and the other group alleged that the shop was built illegally on land belonging to a temple. Before authorities could intervene, the dispute spiraled into a violent confrontation, including road blockades and attacks on police officers. What did BJP, TMC say? Leader of the Opposition and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari slammed the incident and said that the victims of the violence were from Hindu families. He also demanded immediate deployment of central forces in the area. 'Several police personnel were injured in the violence, and many police vehicles were torched. We demand immediate deployment of central forces in the area to save and protect people,' Adhikari said. In a post on X, Adhikari further stated, 'I have approached the SP of Diamond Harbour Police District and DGP @WBPolice so that today, I along with one MLA can visit Maheshtala under Rabindranagar Police Station to meet and express solidarity with the victims of the Hindu families and the affected Hindu shopkeepers who came under the attack of the Jihadis yesterday. This visit is a step towards understanding their grievances and ensuring their voices are heard. I hope that the Administration does not obstruct my visit.' Countering the BJP's claims, Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Kunal Ghosh dismissed suggestions that the incident was indicative of a breakdown in law and order. 'The incident in Maheshtala is not related to the overall law and order situation. However, the incident is unfortunate and highly condemnable. The police acted very responsibly and did not take any step to aggravate the situation,' Ghosh said. As of now, the West Bengal police have not issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, security forces remain on high alert, and patrols continue across sensitive zones in Maheshtala to prevent any further escalation.

1 person arrested in connection with Jaipur-Bandra Exp robbery
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested one person in connection with the robbery of cash and jewellery worth ₹7 lakh on the Jaipur-Bandra Express last week. The arrested accused, Surendra Bhaleram from Haryana, was traced via CCTV footage. He is a part of a gang of thieves, said the police, who are tracking down four other gang members who committed the robbery. A special task force of the railway crime branch had found a gutkha packet and broken glass at the crime scene. Since the writing on the packet was in Gujarati, the police investigated the case in Surat and found a local gang involved in the robbery. 'The remaining accused from this gang will also be arrested soon,' said railway police commissioner Rakesh Kalasagar. Last week, when Ayub Khan, a construction businessman from Jogeshwari, was coming to Mumbai in the Jaipur-Bandra Express with his wife Hina, and two young children, the train slowed down after Borivali and four unknown men tried to rob the couple at knifepoint. The couple resisted and fought the accused but the robbers managed to escape by jumping off between Goregaon and Jogeshwari stations. The gang stole the couple's trolley bag, which contained ₹7 lakh worth of jewellery and cash. The Borivali GRP had registered a case of robbery under sections 309 (4) and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the police had formed multiple teams to search for the accused.

Supriya raises concerns over NEET after Pune aspirant alleges OMR sheet tampering
1 2 Pune: Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Wednesday questioned NEET's credibility after a Pimpri Chinchwad aspirant alleged OMR sheet tampering and discrepancies in her details. Sule, via a social media post, also demanded a thorough probe and strict action against those responsible in the case. NEET aspirant from Ravet Muskan Shaikh filed a non-cognisable offence with the Ravet police June 8 after two masked men on a scooter allegedly threatened her against raising the issue. Taking to social media platform X, Sule posted: "Such incidents raise grave concerns about the transparency and integrity of an examination as important as NEET. If students' answer sheets are manipulated in this manner, it puts their future at stake and casts a shadow on the credibility of the entire examination process. " Muskan's uncle, Salim, told TOI that they emailed the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the issue on June 3 and submitted a formal complaint to its New Delhi office on June 10. Muskan's father, Vasim, alleged in the complaint that the OMR sheet released by NTA didn't match the original one filled during the exam. He requested corrections be allowed before the final results. NEET for 2025 were conducted on May 4. Muskan, in her complaint to Ravet police, stated that she was threatened by two men around 6.45pm on June 8 at Adarshnagar when she went out cycling. According to her complaint, the men riding on a black scooter threatened to kill her and family members if they raised the issue about the OMR sheets. Earlier, a video made by Muskan's father explaining the issue his daughter faced was circulated on social media platforms. Senior inspector Nitin Phatangare of the Ravet police told TOI, "We have registered a non-cognisable offence in the matter. The CCTV footage around the area was checked. Further investigation is underway." He said they were only investigating the threat complaint. "My daughter also appeared for the exam last year (2024), but since it was her first attempt, she did not succeed. This time, however, she studied hard and was confident of securing 645 to 650 marks," Vasim said, adding that they also submitted a written complaint to the Chinchwad police as the exam was conducted at a college in their jurisdiction. NTA director general Pradeep Singh Kharola was not available for comment despite calls and messages till going to press.
