Dubai, United Arab Emirates,January 2025 : The exclusive Lakers and UCLA Health Experience concluded today at Arab Health, where it brought together global healthcare leaders, sports icons, and medical pioneers to highlight the role of sports medicine in supporting the physical health of top athletes and advancing health equity through the power of athletics.
Hosted for the first time in the Middle East, this two-day invite-only event featured seven-time NBA Champion Robert Horry and five-time NBA Champion Michael Cooper alongside UCLA Health's experts.
During the Lakers and UCLA Health Experience at Arab Health, attendees gained unique insights into the cutting-edge work of UCLA Health. UCLA Health serves as the official team physicians for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, Chargers, and Sparks and is the official healthcare provider for USA Basketball. Attendees learned how this multidisciplinary team combines medical expertise with innovation to empower athletes while advancing global healthcare equity.
Reflecting on the importance of medical care during his career, Horry said: 'I was very blessed because, in the 16 seasons I played, I only got injured twice. The first time, a player fell on me, and I strained my medial collateral ligament. The injury happened on a Friday, and I was already getting rehab by Monday. I walked into rehabilitation on crutches, and they told me to lose the crutches.
'As an athlete, you put your trust in the doctors and physical therapists to get you back out there, and I think about that moment often—how they got me back to playing. It wasn't just about getting me back on the court; they taught me little things to ensure I never needed to see them again. After that, I never experienced anything physical that stopped me from playing because I was given preventative measures to take care of myself.'

Majority of LA 2028 Games Venues Unveiled
Rana Atef The organizing committee of the Los Angeles 2028 Games announced the majority of the upcoming edition of the Olympic Games venues. Dodger Stadium and Alamitos Beach joined the list of venues for the 2028 Olympics. The International Olympic Committee approved the plan last week, with about half of the events staying in Los Angeles, clustering in three major hubs. Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement: 'This plan brings the Games to all corners of our city like never before — from the Sepulveda Basin to the iconic shores of Venice Beach, our world-famous neighborhoods as well as our hidden gems will be on full display for all to experience and enjoy.' 'And as we come together to prepare, we will help small businesses, create local jobs and implement lasting environmental and transportation improvements that will leave a legacy in our city for generations to come.' Baseball and boxing preliminary rounds will take place at the Peacock Theater and finals at Arena. The downtown home of the Lakers and Kings will also host artistic gymnastics. Rhythmic gymnastics was added to the Expo Park cluster at USC's Galen Center, which will also host badminton. The third major LA Olympic hub in the Sepulveda Basin officially added 3x3 basketball and modern pentathlon to the recreation center that will host BMX and skateboarding. Long Beach will be the second-busiest venue city with 11 disciplines, after the addition of beach volleyball at Alamitos Beach. The 242-acre facility was approved in a vote from the Los Angeles City Council in March to host equestrian. Venice Beach took over triathlon hosting from Long Beach and will also be the starting points for the marathon and road cycling events. NBA: Tearful Doncic scores 45 on return to Dallas as Lakers clinch playoff spot - Omni sports
Luka Doncic shrugged off the raw emotion of his return to Dallas with a dazzling 45-point display against his former club as the Los Angeles Lakers downed the Mavericks 112-97 to punch their ticket to the NBA playoffs on Wednesday. Doncic, who joined the Lakers from Dallas in February in one of the most shocking trades in NBA history, was given a rousing reception by Mavs fans packed into the American Airlines Center to pay tribute to their former hero. A pre-game video montage was screened in the arena just before Doncic was introduced to the sellout crowd of 20,841 fans, many wearing t-shirts bearing the words "Thanks for Everything", written in the 26-year-old's native Slovenian. Doncic visibly teared up as he watched the tribute, and looked distraught as he was comforted by Lakers team-mate LeBron James moments before tip-off. But after that emotional pre-game ceremony, Doncic quickly snapped into game mode, swiftly getting into his scoring groove to give Mavericks fans a painful reminder of the generational talent that was traded away by the club. Doncic scored 14 in the first quarter alone, and added a further 17 in the second period to help the Lakers into a 60-57 half-time lead. Doncic's rate of scoring slowed in the second half, leaving James to produce a trademark fourth quarter burst to close out victory. But there was still time for Doncic to sign off in style, nailing an imperious three-pointer to push the Lakers into a 108-94 lead shortly before exiting the game to a standing ovation. The applause swiftly morphed into chants of "Fire Nico" -- a reference to the Dallas general manager Nico Harrison who has been roundly criticised by Mavs for engineering the trade which sent Doncic to Los Angeles in exchange for Anthony Davis. 'So many emotions' Doncic later admitted he had struggled to maintain his composure during the pre-game ceremony. "I don't know how I did it because when I was watching that video I was like 'There's no way I'm playing this game'," he told ESPN. "But all my teammates had my back and were really supporting me. "There were so many emotions I can't even explain. It brought tears to my eyes. I came here as a young kid, aged 18, and they made me feel like it was home. Just a lot of great memories. "I love these fans, I love this city but it's time to move on." The victory means the Lakers, who improved to 49-31, can clinch third seed in the Western Conference if they win one of their final two regular-season games. Doncic's 45 points included seven three-pointers from 16-of-28 shooting, while James finished with 27 points, seven rebounds and three assists. In other games on Wednesday, the battle for playoff places in the Western Conference took an unexpected twist with the already-eliminated San Antonio Spurs scoring an upset 114-111 win over the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco. Harrison Barnes' 27-foot buzzer-beating three-pointer snatched victory for San Antonio, who had trailed by 12 points at the start of the fourth quarter. The defeat leaves Golden State's hopes of grabbing one of the three remaining playoff spots in the Western Conference in a precarious position. The Warriors dropped out of the top six with the loss. Elsewhere, the Denver Nuggets' first game since the shock firing of coach Michael Malone on Tuesday saw the team halt their four-game losing streak with a 124-116 defeat of the Sacramento Kings. Denver are fourth in the standings with a 48-32 record. The red-hot Los Angeles Clippers continued their march up the table after extending their winning streak to six games with a 134-117 win over the Houston Rockets, who have already clinched second place in the West.
