Ingham Co. to test emergency alert systems, tornado sirens
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — If you receive an emergency alert on your phone or hear tornado sirens next Wednesday afternoon, Ingham County Emergency Management wants you to know it is just a test.
Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton counties will send out a test cellphone alert next Wednesday at 12:59 p.m., just ahead of the voluntary statewide tornado drill at 1:00 p.m., to make sure the system is functioning properly.
According to Ingham County Emergency Mangement, the message will read:
TEST TEST TEST: This is a TEST of your phone's Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system. Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties and the City of Lansing are sending this TEST as part of Michigan's Severe Weather Awareness Week. You may also hear the outdoor warning (tornado) sirens activate as part of the Statewide Voluntary Tornado Drill. THIS IS ONLY A TEST!

Sunny and warm weather today, rain chances increase into Sunday.
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast however wildfire smoke will still be lingering across most of the area. Today will most likely be the pick of the weekend as high pressure remains in control of our weather. Skies start mostly sunny, with the smoke and haze from the Canadian wildfires, temperatures will be in the upper 70s. Eventually, clouds increase this afternoon and evening ahead of our next weather system. It looks like this system stays to our south but might clip close to the Stateline, Jackson and Hillsdale could see a shower or two late tonight into Sunday morning. Partly to mostly cloudy skies continue for most if not all of Sunday, temperatures remain warm into the mid 70s area wide. A cold front moves in late Sunday into Monday, this will be the best chance for most of Mid-Michigan to see widespread showers and even rumbles of thunder. Scattered showers and storms continue into Monday and even Tuesday as this low pressure system moves out of the Great Lakes. Iroquois County to retest warning sirens next week after sirens fail to sound
WATSEKA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Iroquois County EMA will be retesting all sirens across the county this upcoming Monday after the normal monthly test didn't go as planned. Coordinator for the county EMA Scott Anderson said in a press release Friday that following the regular monthly test of the warning sirens throughout the county, it was discovered that all the sirens — except for those in Watseka — failed to sound. As a result, all the sirens in the county will be re-tested between 10 a.m. and noon on June 9. NOAA weather radio stations coming back online after planned outage for NWS upgrades Additionally, Anderson said all residents need to remember that outdoor warning sirens are designed to be heard by those that are outside, not necessarily inside buildings or homes. He also recommends a number of other sources people can use to receive real-time warnings, including: NOAA Weather Radio: A national network that broadcasts continuous weather updates from the National Weather Service (NWS). Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA): Sent to mobile phones by authorized government agencies such as NWS. Mobile Weather Apps: These apps provide severe weather alerts and more information. Local Media: Important sources of official storm watch and warning information. Emergency Alert System (EAS): This distributes alerts through a number of different media channels. Hazy and cooler Sunday leads to a summer-like start to the work week!
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — We are keeping the cooler weather with us today, but don't be discouraged, as there is a warm-up in the forecast ahead! Overnight lows were a bit chilly, leading to a cooler start with temperatures into the upper 30s to low 40s area-wide. We had a beautiful sunrise thanks to some lingering wildfire smoke from the Canadian wildfires to our northwest. Today will be similar to Saturday, we still see the wildfire smoke in the sky, but it is higher in the atmosphere, which means we will see better air quality overall. Temperatures will remain on the cooler side as the sun can't warm us because of the smoky conditions aloft. Daytime highs get into the upper 60s to low 70s, which is still below average for this time of year. Don't be too upset about the cooler weather, because we will see a warm-up as we head into the upcoming work week. Daytime highs for Monday will reach the upper 70s to low 80s, with even warmer conditions into Tuesday with temps into the mid to upper 80s area-wide! Both days feature sunshine and a little bit of humidity, so as we kick off astronomical summer, we will surely feel like it as well. By Tuesday night into Wednesday, a cold front moves in and stalls, allowing for multiple chances of showers and storms. Heavier rain is possible through Wednesday and Thursday, and we could see anywhere between an inch to maybe two or more inches of rain, which could lead to some localized flooding.
