Fever destroy Swifts to secure netball grand final spot
In a performance for the ages, West Coast led 46-20 at half-time and 60-28 late in the third quarter as the Swifts imploded in front of a bustling Green Army crowd of 11,838 in Perth.
Sunday's result means the second-placed Swifts will now need to dust themselves off for next week's home preliminary final against the Melbourne Vixens, who defeated two-time defending champions Adelaide 58-56 in the minor semi-final earlier in the day.
The ladder-leading Fever will enjoy a week off before featuring in the August 2 grand final at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena.
Star Fever goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard finished with 65 goals from 66 attempts to go with one Super Shot, while goalkeeper Sunday Aryang was huge with seven gains and two intercepts.

Swifts goal shooter Grace Nweke endured a shocker, hitting just 23 goals from 28 attempts while committing a whopping nine turnovers.
The Fever's rise to the grand final is remarkable given they were 0-2 and bottom of the ladder before Fowler-Nembhard's return sparked a run of 13 straight wins - a Super Netball record.
"I'm just really proud of the team," Fever coach Dan Ryan told Fox Sports.
"Their performance across the 60 minutes was amazing.
"To play that quality of netball under the pressure of semi-finals is just amazing."
NSW opened the season with a perfect 8-0 record but limped into the finals with four losses from their last six games.
With no Paige Hadley (foot) or Teigan O'Shannassy (back), the Swifts were simply no match for the Fever.
Fowler-Nembhard was a dominant force in the opening quarter, nailing 20 goals to give the Fever a 20-11 lead at the first break.
At the other end, Nweke was struggling.
The star NZ shooter committed a whopping five turnovers to go with three penalties in the opening term.
In a further blow for the Swifts, centre Verity Simmons rolled her ankle late in the quarter and had to go off for treatment.
Nweke's nightmare continued early in the second term when she missed two easy shots in the space of a few minutes.
By the time Simmons was able to re-enter play with eight minutes remaining in the half, the Fever already led 31-17.
Nweke was benched in favour of Sophie Fawns as the Swifts desperately searched for answers.
West Coast scored the last 12 goals of the second quarter to enter the long break with a 26-goal lead, meaning the second half was effectively junk time.
The final margin - 32 goals - was the largest in a Super Netball semi-final.

Doueihi has performed in a number of roles for Benji Marshall's side, ranging from centre to the halves and even at lock, where he starred in Sunday's thrilling one-point win over the Titans. Doueihi kicked the last-minute field goal for the Tigers that snatched a 21-20 victory over Gold Coast in front of a packed crowd at Leichhardt Oval. The 26-year-old's current contract expires at the end of the season and his signing with powerful player agent Isaac Moses has led to renewed speculation he could leave for an NRL rival in 2026. Nine league reporter Michael Chammas confirmed there is interest in Doueihi from at least one rival club but says Tigers officials met with the player recently and are keen to hang onto him. "There's definitely a chance (he could stay at the Tigers)," Chammas told Nine's 100% Footy on Monday night. "The Tigers have met with Adam Doueihi. They want to keep him. The original offer, I believe, was around $350,000. My understanding is that they have upped that in recent days to maybe around $400,000. But the Dragons are circling." "So, the Dragons are having discussions with his management about bringing him to the club next year." The Panthers have also been linked with a move for Doueihi, following reports they have granted permission for two-time premiership winner Garner to leave one year early if he can find a new club for 2026. Broncos could lose another player as 'formal' offers expected from rival NRL clubs
Gehamat Shibasaki could be the latest player to fall victim to the salary cap squeeze at the Brisbane Broncos, with the manager of the Maroons Origin winner alluding to his potential exit. Shibasaki has been a fairytale story this year in Brisbane, where he started off the season on a train-and-trial deal but impressed coach Michael Maguire enough to force his way into the Broncos' starting side. The journeyman has been a revelation in the centres for Brisbane in 2025 and earnt himself a shock call-up for Queensland in the Origin series decider, playing a decisive role for Billy Slater's side as they claimed the shield. But Shibasaki's current deal with Brisbane only runs until the end of next season, meaning he will be free to negotiate with rivals clubs from November 1, unless a new deal is agreed before then. Complicating the situation is the delicate salary cap situation at the Broncos, who have a number of stars tied down to big-money deals and have recently extended several other players. The salary cap squeeze has already seen Selywn Cobbo forced to leave for the Dolphins next season and hooker Cory Paix could be pushed out too, following reports Brisbane are close to tying down forwards Kobe Hetherington and Corey Jensen to new multi-year deals. Maguire's side recently locked down captain Adam Reynolds, centre Kotoni Staggs and emerging hooker Blake Mozer after the trio signed contract extensions. But the Origin centre's manager Wade Rushton told that he is yet to be offered a new deal and admits they expect to be inundated with offers for the 27-year-old when he becomes a free agent on November 1. "Gehamat loves the Broncos after the season he has had and is contracted to them for next season," Rushton told WWOS. "But they haven't been able to make him an offer beyond that and so on November 1, I'm expecting quite a few clubs to show formal interest. He's had a fantastic year and is a great story - and he will keep working hard on his game. Shibasaki has scored 12 tries in 16 games in his breakout season with the Broncos in 2025, having previously failed to crack into the top grade and moving away for a stint in Japanese rugby. He's also among the NRL's leading centres in terms of line breaks, tackle busts and average run metres per game, making it easy to see why there would be so much interest from rival clubs chasing a quality outside back. Fans call out 'laughable' rule as Origin player tossing up Aussie defect ahead of Ashes
Dolphins fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is reportedly considering switching allegiances and playing for Samoa in the Pacific Championships this year, which would be a huge blow for incoming coach Kevin Walters ahead of the historic Ashes tour. Tabuai-Fidow was one of the stars of State of Origin Game 3 having filled in at fullback and helped Queensland win the decider in Sydney. Tabuai-Fidow would be close to an automatic selection for incoming coach Walters with the Dolphins star able to play in the centres, fullback and wing for his side. But just like Payne Haas and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, Tabuai-Fidow is weighing-up whether to play for Samoa going forward, according to . 'The Hammer' played for Samoa in the 2022 World Cup, but was hampered with injury and only featured in one game. He has represented Australia six times since then having won the Pacific Championship last year in a stacked side. Although it appears he is weighing-up whether to go back and represent Samoa, which he is eligible to do through family heritage. And this hands Walters a new issue as incoming coach. The NRL great is expected to be handed the Kangaroos coaching role any day now. Walters appears to have got the job over Cameron Smith and other candidates, which will see him take over his first head coaching role since leaving the Broncos at the end of 2024. Walters will be looking to help lead Australia to victory over England in the first Ashes series since 2003. However, his first job as coach could be to persuade the likes of Tabuai-Fidow, Haas and Fa'asuamaleaui from changing allegiances. Samoa lost 3-0 to England last year in their international series, but boast an extremely strong side. Jarome Luai, Stephen Crichton, Brian To'o, Terrell May and Blaize Talagi already make up the squad in a side that is growing in strength. But Walters would like to keep Tabuai-Fidow in the side who would be in contention to play fullback, or revert to his previous role in the centres, if available for selection. Regardless, Walters is now facing a new task as incoming coach. And the new rule has raised issues. Rugby League fans divided over international rules Samoa is not considered a tier-one nation so if Tabuai-Fidow, Haas and Fa'asuamaleaui were to make the switch, they would still be able to continue playing Origin for their respective states. And fans have become increasingly confused and frustrated with reports of players switching. Many feel the players should only be able to play for one country and not be able to switch after making their debut. However, the argument is State of Origin and the international game is strengthened with as many players getting involved as possible. Samoa will continue to grow in strength and the game will grow if more superstars opt to represent the country. The Kangaroos will play a three-match Ashes series for the first time since 2003, with the first Test against England getting underway at London's Wembley Stadium on October 25. NRL legend Brad Fittler was considered a favourite for the role, but withdrew from the race due to his media commitments with Channel Nine. The ARLC has been on the lookout for someone to replace Mal Meninga as Kangaroos coach, since the World Cup-winning mentor stepped down to join expansion side the Perth Bears, who enter the NRL in 2027. But after the Commission voted to uphold the ban on club coaches being able to take the role and Fittler pulled out of the running, it was essentially a two-horse race between Smith and Walters to be handed the reins for Australia's Ashes campaign. And Walters appears to have won the race ahead of the tour to England with the Broncos legend already facing a dilemma within the squad.
