Loni river's revival gains momentum

Prayagraj: The state govt's initiative to revive lost rivers has brought new hope to the Loni River, a vital water source for 14 gram panchayats in the Shankargarh block. Efforts are underway to restore and revive this lifeline river, benefiting local communities. Rs 1.50 crore will be spent on the project. Chief development officer Harshika Singh stated that the district is identifying and reviving endangered rivers as per govt directives. She highlighted that a strategy has been drafted to revive the Loni River, which is called the lifeline of Shankargarh, with restoration work already launched in Gram Panchayat Gadha Katra. The Loni River spans 32.50 km across 14 villages Officials said that collective efforts are needed to revive rivers, and for that, the local administration is appealing to NGOs, gram pradhan groups, public representatives, and women self-help groups to come forward for cooperation. The CDO said, "To revive the Loni River, excavation will first be done under MNREGA. Later, a plantation drive and embankments will be carried out." Authorities concerned have been instructed to completely excavate the river under MNREGA, remove encroachments on both sides and plant trees. During the rainy season, mountain streams flow in this river, but obstructions in the water route were spotted at many places. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Plans are afoot to remove obstructions to ensure the free flow of water. For both the rivers, 44,539 working days were generated with a budget of 102.44 lakhs under MNREGA. Besides, over 40,000 trees were planted on both sides of the river. After two years of hard work, the entire route of the river was filled with water.

State board to hold Class XII exam twice yearly from 2027

1 2 Guwahati: In line with CBSE's decision to conduct board examination twice a year, Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) will also offer students a second chance to appear in Class 12 state board examination from 2027, ASSEB officials said on Monday. The second round of examinations will be held within three months of the declaration of results of the first chance. The ASSEB recently decided to conduct the repeat & compartmental examination for the Class 12 board examinees within three months from the date of declaration of the Class 12 final examination results. This is in line with the National Education Policy 2020 suggestions. A source in ASSEB told TOI on Monday that the board has decided to conduct repeat & compartmental examination in the same year, and allow students to appear in the second chance depending on their eligibility. Usually, repeat examination is for those who have already passed the exams but are attempting to improve their performance, whereas a compartmental is for those who failed in the examination. The Academic Regulations for Secondary Courses (Class XI & XII), 2025 of ASSEB, that was recently finalised, endorses this move. As per the existing rules, for Class 12 board examinees, chance to appear for repeat or compartmental examination already exists, but they are not allowed to appear for the exam in the same year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? "The plan is to give a chance to students, whether he or she passed or failed, to appear in the repeat or compartmental examination for Class 12 boards within three months from declaration of the results. This move can save one valuable year for the students," the source said. According to the source, a student must appear in the first Class 12 examination to be held in Feb-March to be eligible for the next one. According to the source, ASSEB may also bring some changes to Class 10 state board exams from 2027, giving chance to students to improve their results by appearing for the second round in the same year. The system of allowing a student to appear for the Class X exam a second time has been in place in Assam for last several years. However, to appear for the second round, a student must fulfil two conditions — get minimum 170 marks in the main board examination and should not fail in more than three subjects. However, if already passed candidates have to be allowed to appear again in the same year, ASSEB will have to bring some more changes in the regulations.

Lakhs witness grand consecration event at Tiruchendur Subramaniya Swamy Temple

Tuticorin: Lakhs of devotees gathered in Tiruchendur to witness the consecration (Kumbabishekam) of the Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple, which was performed early on Monday morning, after a gap of 16 years. Elaborate religious ceremonies and tight security arrangements were in place to manage the large turnout of devotees. The rituals began well before dawn around 2am. The ceremony was conducted between 6.15am and 650 am. The holy water was poured over the rajagopuram, shanmugha vimanam, and other temple towers by priests at 6.22am. The water was drawn from the yagasalai and carried in more than 700 silver-plated sacred pots, following a sequence of vedic procedures. The main ceremonies were conducted in a specially constructed 8,000sqft yagasalai, where 71 homa kundams were set up. Of these, 49 were dedicated to Lord Shanmugar, while others were assigned to Jayanthinathar, Natarajar, Perumal, and several parivara deities. Tamil Thirumurai verses were recited during the rituals instead of Sanskrit mantras. As devotees were not allowed inside the temple during the main ritual, the ceremonies were live-streamed on 70 large LED screens installed at various locations across the town, allowing people to view the proceedings from a safe distance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? Several structural and infrastructure improvements were completed in preparation for the kumbabishekam. Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) minister P K Sekar Babu and fisheries and animal husbandry minister Anitha R Radhakrishnan participated in the final stages of the ritual, including the ceremonial flag waving that signalled the conclusion of the purnahuti (fire ritual). Former Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan was also present, along with senior officials from the HR&CE epartment and other govt departments. Religious heads from mutts including Sringeri and Kanchi also attended the event and offered prayers. Following the conclusion of the consecration rituals, 20 drone sprayers flew over the seashore area, showering devotees with holy water as part of the final blessing ceremony. Each drone carried 10 litres of sanctified water and completed three rounds of spraying. A total of 6,000 police personnel were deployed, while 550 fire and rescue personnel were stationed in and around the temple with 20 fire tenders. Two State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams remained on standby. The coastal zone was closely monitored, and local fishermen were engaged to assist with any potential emergencies along the shoreline. First-aid booths and mobile medical units were set up at key points, especially along the beach where devotees were allowed to gather. To facilitate transportation, three temporary bus terminals were created on approach roads from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, and Nagercoil. Parking facilities were arranged at 18 designated areas, accommodating more than 20,000 buses and 10,000 private vehicles.
