One dead after overnight I-95 multi-vehicle crash near Boynton; southbound lanes now open
A major deadly overnight crash on Interstate 95 near Boynton Beach shut down southbound lanes for most of the morning, causing massive traffic backups during the morning commute.
The multi-vehicle crash involved a semi-truck on I-95 near Hypoluxo Road and Gateway Blvd, just before exit 59, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
FDOT opened southbound lanes Monday morning around rush hour, but traffic remains backed up for miles and commuters are urged to exit before Lake Worth Beach and Boynton Beach exits to avoid lengthy delays.
The crash comes only a few days after an airplane tragedy also in south county when three members of a Palm Beach County family, including a teenage girl, were killed Friday morning when a six-seater Cessna 310 plane crashed onto a busy street moments after taking off from Boca Raton Airport, bursting into flames.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating that crash.

U.S. 231 Road Improvement Project to begin in Bay County
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Florida Department of Transportation will begin an intersection improvement project later this summer at U.S. 231 at Pipeline Road in Bay County. According to a news release, the project will cost $2.6 million and will cause lane closures and traffic shifts. Lane closures will not occur during peak travel times of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; until Labor Day, lane closures will be limited to Sunday through Thursday between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Bay County OKs FDOT grant for road resurfacing and other improvements The project includes the installation of new mast arm traffic signals, as well as new signing and pavement markings. Pipeline Road will be widened to include new left turn lanes for accessing U.S. 231, and crews will be removing the median and realigning the intersection; they will also be milling and resurfacing the pavement. Enhancements will be made to stormwater management to include the installation of concrete curbs and gutters as well as a closed pipe drainage system. S.R. 408 ramps will close overnight at Conway
According to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), drivers should use caution due to overnight closures of the eastbound State Road (S.R.) 408 off-ramp to Conway Road (S.R. 15) (Exit 13) and the westbound S.R. 408 on-ramp from Conway Road from Sunday, June 8, to Thursday, June 12. This work is part of FDOT's resurfacing project on Conway Road from Devonshire Lane to Lake Underhill Road. Work on the ramps will start as early as 11 p.m. nightly and is expected to wrap up by 6 a.m. the next morning, with the final closure ending on Friday, June 13. Detour Information: Motorists traveling north on Conway Road who wish to access westbound S.R. 408 should turn left on Lake Underhill Road and continue west to South Street. Drivers should head west on South Street to access westbound S.R. 408. Alternatively, motorists can head east on Lake Underhill Road, then turn left onto northbound Andes Avenue to access the westbound S.R. 408 entrance ramp. Motorists traveling east on S.R. 408 who wish to access Conway Road should exit early at Bumby Avenue (Exit 12A), continue east on Anderson Street, then turn right onto Lake Underhill Road, continuing east to Conway Road. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) advises drivers of overnight closures on Interstate 4 (I-4) between Kirkman Road (S.R. 435) and S.R. 528 (Beachline Expressway) from Sunday, June 8, to Thursday, June 12. Closures start at 10 p.m. each night and reopen by 6 a.m. the next morning, with the final closure on Friday, June 13. Detour Information for June 8 to 10 Overnight Closures Motorists traveling west on I-4 who wish to access S.R. 528 will be directed to exit early at Exit 75B to southbound Kirkman Road, then continue to the Sand Lake Road (S.R. 482) ramp, staying in the left lane and turning left onto Sand Lake Road at the traffic signal, heading east to John Young Parkway (S.R. 423). Motorists will then turn right onto John Young Parkway, proceeding south to S.R. 528. Detour Information for June 11 and 12 Overnight Closures Motorists traveling west on I-4 will be directed to take Exit 75B to southbound Kirkman Road, then continue to the Sand Lake Road ramp, staying in the left lane and turning left onto Sand Lake Road at the traffic signal, heading east to John Young Parkway. Motorists will then turn right onto John Young Parkway, proceeding south to S.R. 528. From there, drivers who wish to return to I-4 will continue west to the end of S.R. 528 and take the ramp to westbound I-4. Motorists traveling east on Sand Lake Road who wish to access westbound I-4 will turn right onto southbound Turkey Lake Road and proceed to Central Florida Parkway. From there, motorists will turn left onto eastbound Central Florida Parkway and take the first right onto the westbound I-4 entrance ramp. FDOT recommends that drivers follow all posted detour signs.
