Marcos Rojo Kicked Off First Team! Heated Clash With Boca Juniors Manager Ensues

The former Red Devils player's Boca career is in limbo amidst speculations of a rift with manager Miguel Angel Russo after the club's latest defeat.
Marcos Rojo, the former Manchester United player, left Old Trafford after 122 appearances for the Red Devils and joined his native Argentine club Boca Juniors back in 2021. He has since won three trophies with the Boca side.
However, despite impressive performances and title-winning campaigns, Rojo's Boca Juniors stint may be coming close to a controversial end, according to a report by ESPN.
Undergoing a winless streak, Boca Juniors have seen on-field frustration spill over to scenes off the field, where Rojo and manager Miguel Angel Russo stood in loggerheads with each other.
An intense argument following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Huracán in the second phase of the Argentine Primera Division on Sunday, July 31, led to ugly scenes between the two, causing Russo to axe Rojo from the first-team plans.
'The two are understood to have clashed after the game, with the spat so intense that Rojo has now been removed and ostracised," reported SportBible.
'It's claimed there is no going back for the former Sporting CP defender as the decision 'will not be reversed'. He will therefore have to look into terminating his contract, which runs until 31 December 2025, if he wishes to move on and play elsewhere."
Tempers flared inside the setup after Boca Juniors' disappointing winless streak stretched to an 11th outing, which reduced them to the 13th spot in Group A of the Argentine Primera Division.
Previously, Russo's men failed to pick up a single victory at the FIFA Club World Cup in Miami, including a draw against New Zealand's amateur side Auckland City.
Rojo, however, isn't the only Boca player expelled by the club from their first-team plans. Cristian Lema and Marcelo Saracchi have reportedly joined him on the informal suspension list. While out of the first-choice unit, this trio won't even be allowed to use the changing rooms at the club's training ground in a major seclusion.
Notably, Rojo has not played for Boca Juniors since May, when he was part of a penalty shoot-out win over Lanus. He was also left out of the three Club World Cup matches by the side.
Rojo's Boca Juniors career is in limbo amidst rumours that the former United player told his side he wishes to leave well before the Club World Cup, but found no other offers at that stage.

Palhinha back in Premier League as Spurs sign him on loan from Bayern

Tottenham has bolstered its midfield ahead of its return to the Champions League by signing Portugal international Jao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy. The defensive midfielder returns to London and the Premier League a year after leaving Fulham for a much-hyped but largely unsuccessful move to Bayern. He has three years left on his Bayern contract. Bayern and Tottenham both confirmed the move Sunday. Palhinha offers a similar defensive midfield option to Spurs' Rodrigo Bentancur or Yves Bissouma. Expectations for Palhinha at Bayern were high but his time spent there had ended with the Portuguese midfielder spending most of the Club World Cup on the bench. Palhinha was a key target for Bayern in 2023, when then-coach Thomas Tuchel wanted to shore up Bayern's midfield. Palhinha even came to Munich for a medical but Bayern's deal with Fulham collapsed at the last moment. When Bayern finally did sign Palhinha for a reported fee of nearly 50 million euros (then $54.2 million) a year later, Vincent Kompany was the new coach. Palhinha's season was affected by injuries or illness but, even when he was fit, Kompany often preferred youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic in the midfield instead. Palhinha only started 10 of the 25 games he played for Bayern in all competitions and was an unused substitute in four of Bayern's five games at the Club World Cup. It's the second time this off-season that Tottenham has signed a player who was out of favor at Bayern after making forward Mathys Tel's loan move permanent.

Lionel Messi injury update — When will the Argentina captain return for Inter Miami?

Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi will be sidelined indefinitely with what the Major League Soccer (MLS) team described as a 'minor muscle injury in his right leg' in a statement on Sunday. The 38-year-old Argentine legend suffered an upper right leg injury early in Miami's penalty-kicks home win over Mexico's Necaxa on Saturday in a Leagues Cup match. Messi went out in the 11th minute but walked off the field and into the locker room. Messi 'underwent medical tests to evaluate the extent of the muscle discomfort', which forced him out of the match, Inter Miami said in its statement. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment.' That means there is no timetable for a return by the Miami talisman, who shares the MLS season lead with 18 goals and also has nine assists in 18 matches. Jordi Alba, who netted an equaliser for Miami in second-half stoppage time to set up the penalty shootout the hosts won 5-4, said Messi's early exit was 'a huge sadness for the whole team.' Inter Miami has won 12 of 22 matches this season and — with 42 points — is fifth in the Eastern Conference, eight points adrift of leader Philadelphia but with three matches in hand. Any extended absence also would be a major blow for Miami in the Leagues Cup, which Inter won in 2023 just after Messi arrived in South Florida. Miami, which will host UNAM Pumas on Wednesday, ranks second on the MLS table to qualify for the Leagues Cup knockout stage with five points and would clinch a quarterfinal berth with a victory.

Medical examinations were conducted to evaluate the extent of Messi's discomfort that forced his early exit from the match. "The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment," Inter Miami said in its statement. Messi has been exceptional for Inter Miami, scoring 18 goals and providing nine assists in 18 matches, currently sharing the lead in MLS scoring. "A huge sadness for the whole team," said Jordi Alba, who scored a late equaliser that led to Miami's 5-4 penalty shootout victory. Inter Miami currently holds the fifth position in the Eastern Conference with 42 points from 12 wins, 4 losses, and 6 draws, trailing Philadelphia by eight points but with three games remaining. Messi's absence could impact Miami's campaign in the Leagues Cup, a tournament they won in 2023 shortly after his arrival. Miami is scheduled to face UNAM Pumas on Wednesday. They are currently second in the MLS standings for Leagues Cup qualification with five points, needing a win to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
